Trend it Up Malibu Vibes Nail Polish [030] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 30, 2023

One more nail polish! But something more subtle yet still colourful! This is the Trend it Up Malibu Vibes Nail Polish, shade 030

I first bought the pastel yellow shade in this collection. Then I saw the pastel pink and this pastel blue in person and I couldn’t decide which one to buy! Both were gorgeous! I don’t really use blue nail polishes often, so I ended up buying the pastel pink at that time. But this one still haunted my thoughts, forcing me to buy it eventually. So here we are! This nail polish was part of a small limited edition by Trend it Up called Malibu Vibes, which had these pastel nail polishes, some nail stickers, and a few other things. To be fair, the colours of the polishes are more suited for spring than for summer, no? Well, let’s see what this polish is all about already!
What we got from this LE, this isn't the whole collection

Packaging: small clear rectangular glass bottle with a white cap. The text is white. White. On a pastel blue background. I get it, it looks so elegant and pretty with white text, but you can barely make out what it says. Anyways, look at the hibiscus! Very pretty!

Ingredients: no harmful ingredients (DBP, formaldehyde, toluene), and also no nourishing ones, either. The scent is like most nail polishes, albeit a bit more sweet I want to say. The expiration date is 24 months after opening.

Colour: a very light pastel blue, kinda like baby blue or blue chalk. It also seems a bit grayish? That makes this nail polish look a lot like the Max Factor Masterpiece Xpress Nail Polish, in the shade 807/Rain-Check. I don’t know why exactly, but it really reminds me of that nail polish specifically! It’s a really pretty colour, perfect for spring! I am just not used to wearing light blue nail polishes, that’s all.

Brush: this is a large flat brush. It’s definitely a big enough brush for even the largest nails. It picks up so much nail polish, enough for like 4 or 5 nails. Definitely tap off the excess, you don’t want that much of such a creamy, thick formula! It’s a wonderful brush, though. It spreads nail polish perfectly evenly, although it can have difficulties applying the polish cleanly on the sides due to the large size

The formula is actually surprisingly good! It’s different than what I usually use. It’s creamy and somehow milky. It’s quite thick but not at all gelly, it’s just totally creamy like a cream, not a nail polish. This formula is super easy to spread across nails, and it’s totally even. Even with two coats it still looks a bit thin on nails. I really love this different kind of formula, it’s so easy to spread and make even, although it can be a bit messy because you really need just a tiny bit for each nail and it’s hard to get such a small amount on the brush. Speaking of opacity, one coat is semi-sheer, about 60%-ish opaque. Although it is even, I don’t really like the way it looks with one coat.

With two coats you get full opacity and the colour gets its true intensity. It’s rich and creamy with two coats. The polish dries chalky, and indeed, the final texture is matte, chalky even. With this kind of finish your nails really have to be in their best condition, as this will exaggerate every single flaw. What an interesting texture!

Longevity is excellent, actually! Trend it Up nail polishes usually end up chipping within a day or two. This one, on the other hand, stays in perfect condition for days! It only started chipping on day 4, and, true, it did chip a lot, but I was washing my hair and hand washing some clothes. So it’s no wonder it was left in pretty bad condition after all of that. There were also no scratches, which is kind of amazing! Like, it’s a matte nail polish, yet it’s in pristine condition for days, without as much as a scratch. It’s truly fantastic!

Removal: at first it was a bit hard to remove this nail polish. The first coat required a good deal of rubbing to remove it (partially). But after you break through it, the rest is smooth sailing; the rest of the nail polish comes off easily, without too much rubbing. Being such a light colour, it’s natural that there weren’t any stains after removing this polish.

All in all, I really like this polish. It’s still nowhere near my top 10 favourite nail polishes, simply because I am not the biggest fan of blue or light blue nail polishes. But on its own, this is a fantastic nail polish! The formula is sooo wonderfully creamy and incredibly easy to use, and the brush is both large enough and precise enough to ensure that you get even coats each time. I knew this would be a matte nail polish as I tested it after already reviewing the pink nail polish from this mini collection. And you know what? The matte finish is super cool and it has really grown on me! I definitely think that making this nail polish matte instead of glossy was the right call. It doesn’t even get scratched up! No matter what I did, it stayed in pristine condition! Man, it doesn’t even chip much at all, at least until day 4 in my case. The only reason why it started chipping badly then was because I had a ton of chores to do that day, and detergent and nail polish never mix all too well. Really, the only slightly negative thing I have to say is that it was slightly more difficult to remove than usual. I had to rub more to remove it, but even then that wasn’t terrible. Just a bit more annoying than usual. The colour is beautiful, such a lovely pastel blue, perfect for pale/light skin and especially great for spring! It’s just not really my cup of tea, usually. But that is just personal opinion, having nothing to do with how absolutely great this nail polish is in its performance! So I will gladly recommend it! Such a shame that it was a limited edition, though!
