Makeup Revolution Viva Loose Body Glitter [Fiesta] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 15, 2023

The second item from Notino's Revolution Mystery Bag (2022) is this loose pigment, the Makeup Revolution Viva Loose Body Glitter, shade Fiesta.

Me and glitter are definitely not good buddies! Yet I always come back to it! I just love how glittery and sparkly glitter is, but I absolutely hate when it disperses everywhere. So my initial reaction to seeing this loose glitter in the bag was “sigh, more glitter”. But who knows, it could just be very good! Let’s see!

Packaging: a modern, sleek clear plastic pot with a small rose gold cap. The cap, thankfully, fits tightly, so no need to worry about getting the glitter everywhere if you knock it over. I really like that the glitter is inside a small tube, surrounded by the blocky, large plastic, it gives the glitter extra oomph! Like, it’s so modern!

Ingredients: glycerine for nourishment. No parabens. The scent is non-existent? I don’t think I can smell anything tbh. The expiration date is only 3 months after opening, so you’d better finish it fast. However, I decided to check the batch code, since I had problems with Notino Mystery Bags in the past (see here). And look what I saw: this glitter was manufactured almost 4 years ago! For a product whose PAO is so short, this cannot be good. Well, I hope it doesn’t affect its performance!

Colour: a stunning, intense light blue with a more aqua blue shine. This pigment is super shimmery, making it even more intense! Appropriate for fiestas, for sure!

Although this is body glitter, I decided to use it as eyeshadow. Very basic. But it will tell me everything I need to know about this glitter. You can, of course, use it on the body, or to highlight, or... well, the possibilities are endless! However, as with any loose glitter, you really should use glitter glue; I did not, simply to see how the glitter would perform without it.

The sieve is plastic and dispenses a small amount of glitter at one time, but if you shake it you will get a whole lot of glitter. So it’s a good enough design to prevent a mess from happening from dispensing too much glitter. It was a bit tedious to use, though.

It’s just as pigmented in the pot and on the skin, which is to say, extremely pigmented. It’s super intense with just one layer, but if you really want to be excessively glittery, go ahead and apply a few more layers, it will only look better! It’s easiest to apply with fingers, brushes are pretty much useless for this. I think it actually looks good as an eyeshadow, of course it would be much better with glue.

That’s why it is so sparse in the photos. The glitter feels extremely light on the eyelids; however, the glitter particles are sharp, especially if they get into the eyes. The glitter feels very sharp and scratchy when it falls into my eyes; be careful not to damage your eyes with it!

The glitter is totally loose, making it super difficult to use without glitter glue. It ends up being uneven no matter how hard you try, but that’s not even the biggest problem. That would be the fact that there is a surreal amount of fall-out, so it gets everywhere! Cheeks, chin, nose, it’s fricking everywhere! What did I expect? This is glitter, doing glitter stuff!

Longevity is where it’s at, though! It is super durable without glue; incredibly, there is barely any movement after 6 hours! It is still in the exact same place, no vertical movement, and no fading. It’s incredible how there isn’t much creasing, at least by glitter standards. There isn’t a lot of fall-out either. The glitter doesn’t cause any irritations for my sensitive eyes, except for when it gets inside my eyes. The glitter is microplastic, so that’s why it feels sharp and uncomfortable on the lash line and in the eyes. Glue it to prevent it from getting into the eyes.

Removal: surprisingly, it was relatively painless! I used a cream cleanser to remove the glitter, which really simplified things. It would’ve been so much more annoying removing the glitter with a cotton pad. This way there wasn’t even a whole lot of fall-out, as I could only find a few bits of glitter on my lower eyelid. I usually have glitter all across my face when I remove glitter eyeshadows, but this glitter somehow didn’t explode all over. Colour me surprised!

All in all, this glitter is better than I expected! Sure, it’s a nightmare to apply without glue; it just explodes everywhere and you’ll keep finding it for hours. It is also difficult to apply an even layer without glue, it just looks uneven and sparse, even with half a dozen layers. Though, to be fair, it stays in place for hours, without any fading or vertical movement (glitter often starts to travel down the eyelid if it is not glued properly); it doesn’t even crease all that much! And it is seriously intensely pigmented and incredibly sparkly! Perfect for festival season; I bet it would look amazing with a music festival kinda look. What isn’t perfect, not even remotely, is that the glitter feels sharp, so when it inevitably gets into your eyes it feels scratchy and very uncomfortable. I still don’t like glitter all too much, this glitter did not sway me the other way. But this glitter is better than I thought, and I am sure it would perform much better had I only used glitter glue. But it, by itself, is just not fun to use, despite being such a fun colour, so I will not be recommending it.
