Essence Snow Much Love Blush [01 - Snow Much Fun!] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 10, 2023

And now, this is the Essence Snow Much Love Blush, shade 01/Snow Much Fun! (it’s the only shade, anyways).

This blush was love at first sight! I saw the Snow Much Love LE at Müller and I, impulsively, wanted to buy everything! I stopped to think what I really wanted from this LE. One product was at the top of that list: this blush. I legitimately cannot remember the last time I saw such a beautifully almost bubblegum pinky blush! I remember having something similar ages ago, when I was still a very young lass, in primary school, which made me feel nostalgic. All the more reason to buy it! I was flip-flopping between buying this and the cream-to-powder highlighter, literally taking one and then returning it and then taking the other and placing it back down, finally deciding that this blush was made for my skintone (don’t think that I didn’t end up buying the highlighter, too; check it out!) This initial hype and love might affect my opinion of the blush; I will try to stay as unbiased as possible, however. So, is it as good as I was hoping it would be? Let’s see!

First, the packaging. It is as simple as it gets, and might look a bit cheap. Most Essence blushes look like this, and have looked like this for more than a decade as far I can remember. I don’t mind it, it gets the job done, even if it’s not the fanciest packaging around. It is made of clear plastic so that you can see the colour of the blush clearly. The lid closes very securely (click!). I love the combination of white text (and a heart, so lovely!) with the light pink of the blush, it’s such a cute combo!

Ingredients: shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter esters, macadamia (Macadamia ternifolia) seed oil, vitamin E, houpu magnolia (Magnolia officinalis) bark extract for nourishment. No parabens. That’s a lot of hydrating and nourishing ingredients in one little blush! That should ensure the blush feels buttery. The scent is actually quite unpleasant. It’s fairly intense and smells bitter and tart. Not at all nice, and you can actually smell it on your face after you apply it. I really don’t like it. The expiration date is 12 months after opening.

The colour of this blush is just perfect! It’s perfectly Barbie/girly; it really takes me back to my early teens! It’s a bubblegum pink with some bluish undertones. Quite a cold looking colour, perfect for winter! It looks amazing when there’s snow and your cheeks look beautifully pinkishly flush with this blush! However, it might be a bit too pink for a lot of people, especially for anyone who has darker skin, as this is primarily made for pale/light skin. I am so in love with this colour, I cannot even describe it!

The formula is incredible! It is powdery, but it is so finely milled that it actually feels quite silky. There is no fall-out at all. This super finely-milled formula blends into the skin so wonderfully, without adding extra texture to the skin. More on that in a bit! The formula is so soft and just amazing! It’s also extremely buildable, which is very important, you will see why in a moment. This blush is extremely easy to blend out; it is, also, easy to blend it out too much, so do be careful.

I love how easy it is to get an even, rich layer of pink on my cheeks, making them look princessy and cute!

So, this blush has pretty intense pigmentation, like, really, go easy on it, because it is far too easy to end up with a garishly intense layer! Apply several sheer layers instead of one very intense layer, as this formula blends out easily in general but is difficult to blend it out when there’s too much pigment. This is why it is so important that this formula is able to be built up in its intensity. It is, however, beautiful when properly blended out, even if you apply a bit too much.

I love how easily I can control how intense I want the pigmentation to be, as, I’ll admit, I am not the most skilled with blushes and this makes applying it evenly so easy that anybody could do it.

The texture of this blush is matte. There really isn’t any shine to it, but it doesn’t look cakey or dry. It also doesn’t visually enlarge my pores; it actually smoothens out my skin's texture, making it look softer than it is. Fantastic!

Since this formula has several oils and magnolia added for nourishment, it is, as expected, super comfortable to wear. It’s extremely lightweight, so much that I forget It’s even there!

This blush has very good longevity, in my opinion. However, do note that I have very oily skin by nature, which absolutely negatively affects almost all blushes and how they perform. With that said, it actually performs incredibly well, given everything! After 8 hours I did notice it fading somewhat, and it did start to look a bit more patchy, but it was still quite pigmented. If I was somewhere out I would have to touch it up, but it is more than fine, actually. It’s better than a lot of other blushes after so many hours.

Of course, my sebum breaks through it which makes the blush lose its silky matte finish, but pretty much nothing can stop my sebum. If it lasts this long on my oily skin, it should be way more than adequate on drier skins. Also, it does not cause any irritations.

It’s extremely easy to remove, no matter what product you use. Literally no rubbing necessary, just one swipe and it’s gone, simple as that!

In conclusion, this blush was definitely worth the hype! I love it dearly and it ended up looking just as amazing as I hoped it would! The pictures really don’t do it justice; you’d have to see it in person to really see how beautifully pink and intense it is! I applied a couple of thin layers in the pictures; it even seemed a tiny bit too intense in real life, but it has to be like that in order to be at all visible on photos. I love, love, love the colour! It’s such a girlish pink, like a Barbie, perfectly feminine and adorable! It’s like what Disney princesses would have. And the formula! Oh, it’s so incredibly easy to use and build up and make it perfectly even. It also blends like a dream, giving you perfectly flush cheeks, very kawaii! I love that it’s matte, too, so that it doesn’t exaggerate any imperfections your skin might have. This matte texture makes your skin look smoother and softer. Now, while it does fade and become a bit patchy on my skin after a couple of hours, I do have horribly oily skin, so you should be fine if your skin is at all drier than mine. The only thing I dislike is the pungent, bitter smell which can be felt even after you finish applying the blush. But that’s really nothing when everything else is so good! Truly, this blush has “Snow” much love to give, it is no wonder it was love at first sight! Absolutely recommend it!

Would buy again? Definitely YES (if it wasn’t part of a limited edition, it will be gone way too soon :( )
