Makeup Revolution Eye Glisten [Desired] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 15, 2023
The first review from the Notino Revolution Mystery Bag
(2022) is the liquid eyeshadow, Makeup Revolution Eye Glisten, in the shade
Desired (get the pun in the name? Red eyeshadow – Desired? Nice one!)
I don’t often use liquid eyeshadows; my eyelids are very
oily so they tend to crease almost all eye makeup. The more creamy or liquidy it
is, the more it will crease on my eyelids, usually. And red isn’t my first choice
when it comes to eyeshadow colours, but it’s good to branch out, try something
you wouldn’t otherwise! Let’s see if this liquid eyeshadow duo is any good!
Packaging: just two basic, clear plastic tubes connected by
a rose gold centre part. It’s alright. Nothing special, really, but it serves its
purpose. Both of the tubes close super tightly, which is good, because imagine
the mess if this spilled! You’d have red everywhere!
Ingredients: no nourishing ingredients and no parabens. The
scent is barely noticeable; it’s a bit plastic smelling. The expiration date is
12 months after opening. That is, it is 12 months if it’s a fresh batch, the
one I got is almost 4.5 years old! I know that mystery bags are often filled
with old items, but this is really too much! And as you can see, it’s already
all dried up, especially on the glitter side. So that’s definitely going to negatively
affect its performance!
This is a duo liquid eyeshadow: there’s a metallic eyeshadow
on one end and a fine glitter eyeshadow on the other. They are both red; the
metallic eyeshadow is almost coppery red with a pinkish shine, the glittery
eyeshadow is more rusty red with coppery glitter. They complement each other
perfectly. It is super vibrant and intense on pale skin, it might look better on
light-medium skintones. The metallic shadow is meant to be used as a base,
while the glitter is supposed to be an eyeshadow topper.
Pigmentation is extremely intense! The glitter eyeshadow is
slightly more intensely pigmented than the metallic eyeshadow. One coat of either
of these eyeshadows is very patchy and uneven.

The formula is not good! The metallic eyeshadow has a more
creamy formula, but it is still horribly patchy and takes so goddamn long to
get it to look alright. Once you get it to look alright you really shouldn’t
touch it because it’s easy to ruin it and make it patchy again. The glitter
eyeshadow, on the other hand, is almost impossible to use. The formula is
totally dry so it has difficulties sticking to the metallic eyeshadow. It is
also so hard to make it look even; I really tried my best and I could only get
it to look somewhat okay-ish, if clumpy. And I have to keep in mind that if I
swipe across my eyelids I will ruin the metallic eyeshadow, so there was a ton
of little tapping to get it to look alright. These are obviously meant to be
used together; while you can use the metallic eyeshadow on its own and it
actually looks kinda good, the glitter eyeshadow is just too patchy and
horrible to be used solo. At least both eyeshadows set very quickly, only a
couple of seconds of keeping my eyes closed and it’s pretty much dry and set.
It’s not at all tacky while it’s drying or after. In fact, it is powdery dry
after it sets.
The texture is metallic shiny (one side), and metallic
glittery (other side). Since it’s old and dried out it actually looks rough and
gravelly. Especially the glitter, it looks so coarse! I actually like this
texture, it’s so intense and vibrant, if only it was a fresh piece! I am sure
it would look better. I have no idea how I managed to make it look this even on
both eyes, trust me, it’s more the exception than the rule!
I decided to prime
my eyelids with a neutral, beige powder eyeshadow before layering this
eyeshadow duo on top. Perhaps that made all the difference! It was a hassle
trying to apply it evenly. I tried to blend it out with my fingers, and, yeah,
that didn’t work. It only lead to even more fall-out. Yeah, the glitter
eyeshadow has a ton of fall-out! The metallic one doesn’t have fall-out, so
that’s something at least.
Both eyeshadows feel super comfortable on eyelids,
no rough, scratchy feeling from the glitter nor any tackiness from the metallic
shadow. It’s very light, though I do sometimes notice it’s there. Still, it’s
quite comfy, I must admit!
Longevity is actually incredibly good! I expected it to
crease so much that half of it would be gone, but there’s no creasing, somehow!
Even with no eyeshadow primer underneath, just a beige powder eyeshadow, it is
in perfect condition 6 hours after application! How or why this is, I do not
know. There’s no additional fall-out or fading or any other changes. It’s just
extremely long-lasting, even if it is this old and dry! Imagine how it would
perform, then, if it were fresh!
I had no issues removing this eye shadow. It is super easy
to remove no matter what you use (micellar water, oil-based remover...). I
didn’t have to rub my eyes a lot to remove it. And there was no staining,
despite the intense red pigmentation (red pigments are the ones most likely to
stain the skin). Surprisingly, the glitter did not explode all over my face,
like glitter eyeshadows usually do.
Left: the metallic base; Right: the glitter topper
Applicator: both tubes have the same applicator. It is a standard
flat applicator that you might find in liquid lipsticks. It picks up a good
amount of pigment, and I am sure it would pick up even more if the eyeshadows
weren’t all dried up. The stoppers are great! I think I would prefer a doe foot
applicator, but this one is precise enough, and it applies pigment as evenly as
it can given the dry formula. It was easy enough to draw a precise shape with
these applicators. If there’s one really good thing about them, it’s that they
are super soft!
In conclusion, if only I could say I like this eyeshadow.
The one I got is obviously spoiled, judging by the ancient batch code and how
dried up it already is. And that makes it rubbish to use; it’s annoyingly
patchy and uneven and it is next to impossible to make a nice, even layer. If
you go and try to fix it you will only end up ruining it. The glitter is
especially exhausting and annoying to use, with its fall-out and patchiness. The
metallic eyeshadow is alright, even if it is this annoying to use. If you
somehow manage to make it even and thick it will look coarse and gravelly, not
at all smooth. And that’s true even if you don’t apply the glitter. And don’t
even try to blend it, it will just start crumbling. The only good things are
the applicators, which are really soft and do a fantastic job working with what they
got, and that this eyeshadow is somehow incredibly long-lasting, not creasing
one bit after 7 hours of wearing it without primer underneath. And the colour
is quite cool: a nice coppery red on both sides. Not what I’d use regularly,
but a really nice change of pace. But since it is so difficult to use and just
plain annoying, I really cannot recommend it. Perhaps if it was a fresh batch,
I would, who knows.
Rating: 3/10 (I can’t say realistically what the rating
should be, since I got one that had clearly gone bad)
Would buy again? NO (even if it hadn’t gone bad)
