Howdy,, y'all!
Time to put on your cowboy hat and your best fringed leather jacket because we are going to the wild, wild American West with the newest Essence LE, the Yee Haw! Limited Edition!
Again, I only noticed this LE because I was randomly on Boozyshop one day, I have no idea when this will arrive here since not even Catrice's Midnight Sun LE is here yet. Perhaps mid-July? Whenever it arrives, oh, I will be getting some stuff - let's check it out!
I am still getting over the fact that the name is simply "Yee, Haw!", not "Yee Haw, Cowgirl", or anything like that. Short and simple. Right to the point. Anyways, this is a pretty good theme for a middle of summer LE. After all, the American South, where cowboys are like, most common, is pretty hot, so it feels suitable for the heat wave that's currently ongoing. And I love this theme! I've always loved cowboy-themed stuff, be it prints, clothing, shoes (looove cowboy boots <3 ) or hell, even furniture (though, not quite as much as shoes and clothing). So when I saw this LE, I literally squealed out of joy - and then I saw the packaging... you guys... but we will come to that!
This is a medium-sized limited edition, the same size as the previous LE (Aloha, Babes!), which means that it has a grand total of 7 products. And FINALLY, it covers the entire face - eyes included!! It feels like an eternity since the last time an Essence or Catrice limited edition has had eye products. And also, fricking finally, not exclusively suitable for tan-to-darker skin! So I finally have some stuff that I will be able to use! In detail, there's 3 lip products (Lip Beautifier Key Chain (?), Plumping Lip Oil, Lipgloss), 2 face products (Moisturizing Primer Stick, Blush Stick), 1 eye product (Jumbo Eye Crayon), and 1 brush ('Glow Brush'). Yes, there is just one item for the eyes, but that is better than none! Overall, quite a good variety, and enough items to make a nice neutral golden sun-kissed look. Finally, a collection that actually looks complete and cohesive! And, really, no filler! Yay! I am also so happy with the backdrop I took for this LE, it is so fitting, isn't it? It's from Final Fantasy XV, btw!
Where should we begin, hmm? I know! Since there is a primer, let's start with the face products, of which there are two (a primer and a blush stick). So, something to give you that dewy, hydrated skin look and something to add a touch of healthy flush? Sounds nice, but let's see what these products are actually.
So, the Moisturizing Primer Stick; yup, I was right, Essence claim that this primer will give a dewy effect to the skin. Honestly? I never vibed with that; my skin is oily enough naturally, so I do whatever I can to mattify that stuff down, I don't want any shine because it quickly devolves into just looking like an oil slick. And this stick isn't filling me with any sort of confidence when the very first ingredient is olive oil... yikes! Am I reading this INCI list right? There is legitimately no water or alcohol here, just a bunch of various oils... olive, avocado, macadamia, argan, linseed... coconut... sunflower oil???
That is just so way too much. I can already feel new acne forming from all these oils - no thank you. This definitely sounds like it will be much better suited for very dry to dry skin, not us oily-skins. It also doesn't have any hyaluronic acid or any other highly hydrating ingredients. So how 'refreshing and hydrating' this primer would realistically be is up for debate. But for me personally, I will just skip this. Not the best start, eh? Though I do love the refreshingly turquoise colour!
The second face product is the blush stick in this lovely soft brick red colour. I think I could pull this colour off? It doesn't seem to be much darker than the blush I got in Catrice's Advent Calendar and that one looks nice (when I get it to blend out anyways). Now, if you've read any of my previous reviews or posts, you'll know that cream/liquid blushes and I have major beef. I don't know why, my skin flat-out rejects them most times. Every time I tried cream or liquid blushes, they were either patchy or literally disappeared as soon as I tried to blend them out. So I don't feel too confident trying this out... I feel like the same would happen here.
Also, the shape of the stick is not too suitable for precisely applying the blush since it is long and wide. It might end up being messy and blotchy... darn. This is a 'naturally glowy' blush, which also raises concerns for me as these often have more problems with oily skin than matte blushes, even in cream format. Though I cannot say that having that bit of natural radiance isn't just ooomph! I also love the lil' cowboy hats print on the plastic cap! Oh, so this has the hyaluronic acid I mentioned earlier, but the supposedly 'moisturising' primer doesn't??? LMAO
That was the face... not really off on the right foot so far but maybe things will change right about... NOW! Because we are moving onto the eyes, which, while it only has one item, it is SO precious! A jumbo eye crayon in a sort-of shimmering gold colour with... wait for it... a tiny clear plastic cowboy hat cap... STOP, that's SOOO CUTE 😭!
There is precisely 0.000% chance that I won't get this - period. I must have it, it is so fricking adorable - and the colour looks gorgeous as well. They say it can be used as an eyeliner as well, but eh, I think this may be a bit too large haha. That eyeliner will be chonky af! Now, how much I would like this depends entirely on how dry and shimmery it is. I had an XX Revolution eye crayon before and it was almost scratchy from how much shimmer there was; I hope this one is more creamy. Though, having oily eyelids, the creamier an eyeshadow is, the more risk of creasing it has.
This definitely looks like it is going to be nice and creamy and like it's going to look awesome with that golden shimmer. I cannot wait to get it, eee! I do wonder if I can cut off the end of the cap and just have the little cowboy hat... will have to experiment with that once the crayon is used up.
That would be it for the eyes, just the little cowboy-hat-wearing crayon. Now, let's turn towards the largest portion of this LE, which is the lips, containing a lip oil, lip beautifier and a lipgloss. So it's all about plumpy, glossy lips, huh? Can't say I am against that! I loove a good glossy juicy lip!
First, the 'Lip Beautifier Key Chain'... think they left out the 'with' there. So, this is basically a pinkish lipgloss with gold shimmer in it so that the lips have a nice sparkle. Nothing too special tbh, but I really, REALLY love that tassel! I think I might get this just for that, wouldn't be the first time I bought a product solely for its keychain decoration (*cough* Love, Luck & Dragons LE *cough*). Oh wait... that cowboy boot deco is a mirror??? Well, that's useful! Now, if only it had a protective sheath or something because it's going to get all smudgy without one...
In terms of ingredients, it's got meadowfoam oil, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid, so it could be fairly hydrating, as well as being super cute. I did not plan to buy this, but the extra deco pieces are tempting me a lotttt...
Now, the lipgloss proper. This is basically 'Juicy Bomb... but make it cowboy'. And I love that! I love the Juicy Bomb lipglosses so much, they are super comfy on lips and not tacky one bit, so yeah, I will most definitely be getting this one if I find it.
The colour looks fairly dark golden, almost like old hay, which might be a bit dark for me, but since this is a lipgloss it'll be alright. I love how it seems to have plentiful golden shimmer that will really make the lips sparkle in the sunset light. Also, caramel-scented/flavoured for those who love caramel. Me, personally? I low-key hate caramel as a flavour but there is something irresistible about its scent to me. Like, it's so delicious I swear!
I saved the best lip product for last because... well, just look at it. See anything unique? Take a closer look at the cap... yuppp! Holy cow! There's a pair of little 3D cowboy boots in it! This is legit insane, like, I have never seen this. I thought at first that this is a cardboard cut-out but nope, it's actual 3D boots! I am already thinking of how to remove them from their protective case without damaging them. They seem to be made of rubber, so they won't deal well with the kinds of summers we have here in Croatia but still, I must have them! It's a need! Though these particular boots were not made for walking... so they probably won't walk all over you.
As for the lip oil itself, it's nothing particularly special. They do claim that it is plumping but it literally has no plumping ingredients in its list, so...? All the better for me because my lips tend to become extremely chapped from stuff like menthol or chili. The colour seems to be a bit light, but I am sure it will just be a subtle rosy wash of colour suitable for any skintone. I am so excited for this lip oil in particular, I am practically counting down the days until I can get my hands on it!
And with the lips done, there is but one more category left to check out: brushes. Instead of some useless filler (Aloha, Babes! toenails separators ... Desert Dune flimsy Hair Clip), they decided to include a gigantic flat-top brush that, if nothing else, will be useful to dust on bronzer and highlight on the body.
Honestly, the shape and size of this brush reminds me of a horse brush, which is actually very fitting for a cowboy-themed LE. So, nice theming there, Essence! Indeed, it is meant to add product to your body, like the collarbones, for example. I don't contour my collarbones often, but, ngl, they do be looking snatched when I do contour them! So this will certainly be useful. I like how the brush comes in its own case to keep it hygienic and dust-free. I doubt that the brush is that comfortable to hold, though. Maybe I just have too tiny hands, very possible that is the case.
Well, pardner... seems we have come to the end of this dusty ol' road. And what a journey it has been! Finally, a limited edition I am seriously excited about; it has a great variety of products and the colours are mostly suitable for most skintones. So it's not just catered towards tanned skin exclusively. I just cannot get over how great the theming is here! Not only does a cowboy theme go hard (as usual), it is also weirdly appropriate for July for some reason. At least it's not just boring tropical stuff for middle-of-summer. This is actually creative - especially the design of the products. Essence really knocked the ball out of the park with this LE in terms of design; nothing here screams basic or boring. How could it when you have a tassel keychain included with the lip beautifier? Or the eye crayon having the mini cowboy hat as a cap? Now, that's creative thinking! But, I must single out the lip oil because... I cannot remember the last time I was this blown away by the design of a makeup product. Nowadays, brands lean towards minimalism and boring beige colours... so Essence decided to do a full 180 with the lip oil. Why not have a 3D model of cowboy boots in the cap?? THAT'S RIGHT!!! The tiniest lil' cowboy boots to have ever boots-ed! This is on another level, I am telling you...
But the collection itself is composed of 7 products that all look like they will create a really nice subtle shimmery makeup look - perfect for true cowgirls! I cannot wait to see how these items look on pale skin. I will not buy everything - face products are off the table - because I really feel like my skin wouldn't mix with them well, but I have my sights set on the eye crayon, lip beautifier, lipgloss and lip oil. Especially the lip oil. So whenever this arrives, and I get a chance to test them out, I will share the reviews here, as usual.
Oh, and I have to give points for the shade names. Mmm, those are some grade-A Western-themed names! I especially love the brush's name: "In My Cowgirl Era"... well, don't mind if I do play some Taylor Swift/Debut, now that Taylor has regained all her masters! Perhaps... "A Place In This World" or "Tied Together With A Smile"? Nah, TTWAS is too depressing, though I am feeling it now that I am in the lowest (emotionally) part of the cycle... but I want to keep the mood high for this overview, so I'll just blast "Should've Said No"!
And this is the part where we have to bid goodbye, but only for a short while, because cowgirls always have new adventures to go on! Soon enough, we shall meet again for a new limited edition overview or a couple of reviews - so keep your eyes sharp for that soon!
See you soon!
