And now, for the final step, how about some blush? The Wet n Wild Blush Brush will take care of that!
Yep, another basic Wet n Wild brush! You know I gotta collect them all, I just have to! Well, as many as I can find here, at least. Blush brushes are of course, a necessity, and I am always looking for a good blush brush. This one, though, it does have a weird shape doesn’t it? Not the shape blush brushes usually have. Eh, it is what it is; if I want to complete the collection I have to buy this one too. So, let’s see how good it is!
Packaging: what a flimsy little plastic bag! This is no good, no way can this protect the brush during transport. Cheap. Although, look, there is a brush guard inside! That’s handy! Err – or would have been handy if I remembered to keep it. Darn.
The brush itself is fairly basic. The body (ferrule + handle) is white with the only detail being the Wet n Wild logo. I like how it’s a glossy white, it makes the brush look more elegant! The brush head is very pretty! It’s white with pink/peachy pink tips. I love the pop of colour from the pink hair tips! But the best detail is the indentation that is places where your thumb would naturally rest while using the brush. It’s such a small detail, but it is a meaningful one. It reduces strain in the wrist and makes the brush much easier to use in general. Ergonomics matter!
The hairs are synthetic. They don’t really look very high quality to be honest. They look like they are a bit crimped and they are quite shiny, so they do look a bit plasticy. The hairs also aren’t cut very evenly, with a few hairs that are much longer than the rest. Hmm, not very good QA. However, they are wonderfully soft when you swipe or swirl with the brush! When you tap... eh, that’s a different story! The hairs do feel relatively prickly when you tap, which isn’t good, as you will need to tap to apply blush. Also, the shape. Like, this is more like a powder brush than a typical blush brush. I am used to blush brushes being angled; I am not sure how well it will be able to apply blush with such a shape.
Oh dear, this isn’t good. This brush doesn’t pick up nearly enough pigment. It picks up a very small amount, so you need to go back to the pan again and again just to get a sheer wash of colour. Let alone a vibrant look! This is really annoying, although I guess there is a silver lining to it all: this makes it possible to really fine tune the intensity of pigment, without overdoing it. I still don’t like it, regardless. I need like 4 layers until I can actually see the blush on my cheeks. Oh, and unlike typical angled blush brushes, this one cannot be used for contouring as it is just not shaped right or precise enough. Well, there is one thing that it does very good: blending. It’s not the best ever brush for blending but it is still really good. It blends pigments easily – sometimes too easily, as you can overblend with this brush if you aren’t careful. Though, all that said, I did have occasions where I wanted just a smidge of colour on my cheeks and this brush turned out to be ideal for this! So I guess it is just highly situational. Oh, and, due to the odd shape it struggles to make your cheeks defined the way angled blush brushes do. Although, it is easier to make a diffuse flushed look with this shape, so I guess it’s not all that bad.
Washing: easy to wash, and it doesn’t absorb much shampoo. Although, because it is dense you might have to rinse it for a little while longer. It keeps its shape after a wash and there’s no fall-out or fraying. Just note that it suffers from the same problem other basic Wet n Wild brushes do: there’s something brownish leaking from the ferrule onto the hairs; most likely this is glue from inside the ferrule, but don’t worry as it doesn’t seem to impact the brush negatively. I’ve already washed it many times and so far it hasn’t caused any bad stuff to happen...
All in all, eh, this brush is not as good as some of the other basic Wet n Wild brushes are. It’s average, honestly. I love the ergonomic design and the pure white hairs that have these bright pink/peachy pink tips, I think they are gorgeous! And I love how easy this brush is to wash and how soft it is (when you are swiping/swirling with it, at least), and how well it blends. It blends so well, on fact, that it is easy to overblend pigments and make them sparse and uneven. So be careful! But honestly, besides this, everything else is meh. The hairs are not super high quality, they look crimped and are not cut evenly. The biggest peeve I have with this brush is that it just picks up so little pigment! Like, I swirl around the blush pan and then... nothing?? Like, it’s barely visible I even applied anything. So I need to go back at least 4-5 times more until I can actually see the blush on my cheeks. This is frustrating, although I see how it could be useful in certain situations. And the shape makes it really difficult to sculpt the cheeks with blush as it is not angled; it’s more like a smaller powder brush in its shape. With enough patience and skill, you can of course get blush to look good, but it is just not very fun to use. It’s frustrating more than anything. But it’s not horrible, and I am thankful for that. I mean, I get that there’s a contour brush in the basic range that is basically like an angled blush brush, but couldn’t this one have been made... I don’t know... better in any way? So yeah, this basic Wet n Wild brush will not be getting a recommendation, it’s just too odd and frustrating.
