Wet n Wild Contour Brush Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - July 20, 2025

Ah, now, after applying powder, we can move on to the next step, and we shall use this brush: the Wet n Wild Contour Brush!

One of the basic Wet n Wild brushes that I feel everyone, especially if you are on a budget, should have. So far, they’ve been quite good. Maybe not like top 1% in terms of quality but they are surprisingly good given how much they cost. I like to have complete collections of plenty of things, so I wanted to complete the Wet n Wild brush collection, too. Not all brushes are available here in Croatia, but they had this one in BIPA, and since they already had 30% off makeup, I figured I might as well try to finish the collection as much as I can with the extra discount! So, does this brush continue to good legacy of the previous ones? Let’s take a look!

Alright, so, first and foremost, the packaging it comes in is not at all secure. It’s just a clear plastic bag that offers no security whatsoever to keep the brush from being damaged. It’s also not terribly tamper-proof.

Quite cheap. But hey, for this price I cannot expect to get like laminated, thick plastic boxes with additional layers inside. I don’t like it but I understand why it is the way it is. They did try to keep the brush head safe to some degree, at least. Wet n Wild provide you with a brush guard that you can either keep it dispose of (I stupidly threw it away before I realised how necessary they are once you have the number of brushes I do). I appreciate that they did this, at the very least.

The brush itself is very basic in its design. It’s really nothing special, just a white handle and ferrule with a black Wet n Wild logo printed on the end of the handle. It doesn’t look cheap to me, idk, it looks modern all pure white like this. I really appreciate that there’s a thumb rest on the handle – it’s a small detail, but it means so much in practice! The fact that I can place my thumb in the indentation and rest it there means less stress for both the finger and the wrist, and it ultimately makes it easier to use when your hand isn’t all cramped up. The hairs are very pretty, white with light pink tips. So girly! However, they can get discoloured rather easily, as everything white, anyways. In general, the brush seems to be of good quality, not fantastic, but also not bad, either.

The hairs are synthetic. I must say that I am not completely satisfied with their level of quality control; there are a bunch of unevenly cut hairs and a few stray, slightly frayed hairs. I had to pull a few hairs out because they were just too long and I was getting too annoyed with them (even if they didn’t seem to interfere with the application). They are also quite shiny in the plastic kind of way, which means that they don’t look too high quality. However, they aren’t as cheap as they might appear to be, you’ll see soon. I am happy with the fact that there isn’t any excess fraying or any fall-out, so this just further proves that you shouldn’t judge it solely on its appearance.

Indeed, it performs much better than you might think! It picks up a decent amount of pigment, although it usually isn’t quite enough for me, so I have to go back into the pan. It’s not a small amount, but I have grown used to blush brushes picking up a ton of pigment. This isn’t a terrible thing, I guess it allows you to be more precise and carefully build up the intensity, which is good. It applies pigment pretty evenly, although some types of formulas might end up being a tiny bit patchy; case in point, the bronzer I was using with this brush during testing (I Heart Revolution Chocolate Contour Palette, Fair) usually ended up being a tiiiny bit uneven. It’s nothing major though, and certainly nothing that cannot be fixed in seconds. The shape of the brush makes it ideal for both blushes and bronzers, although it is a bit better suited for blushes. Its angled brush head makes it super easy to apply blush correctly and exactly where you want to, as this is one precise brush! Even contouring ended up looking good, in spite of it not being its primary function (in terms of shape, at least, never mind the name)! Being so easy to use, this makes it a great blush brush for a beginner. But don’t assume this means it is bad because I quite like the way blush looks intense, yet still natural (and even!) when I use this brush to apply it. Oh yeah, it’s fantastic at blending! Your blush will be perfectly blended out in no time! Although, it can definitely overblend pigments, so don’t go overboard with blending. Hey – for how much it cost, it is surprisingly incredible, even with the few caveats here and there.

It’s super easy to wash. No absorption of shampoo and it really doesn’t take a lot of time or water to get it sparkly clean. Although, do try to clean it often, the pure white hairs are easily discoloured, especially if you use vibrant pigments (which blushes often are). There’s no fall-out post-wash, although I have seen it sometimes become slightly yellowish at the base; I believe that that would be the glue seeping down. It’s all good so far with its quality, no sign of it falling apart soon – touch wood!

To sum up, this is perhaps one of the best blush brushes a makeup beginner could use! Note that this doesn’t mean it’s one of the best blush brushes in general – that honour would much sooner go to the BH Blush Brush or the MUA Blush Brush or such. But the ratio of quality/price is outstanding. Sure, it’s got its fair share of problems: hairs being cut really unevenly and being kinda cheap-looking, and it can sometimes apply pigment a bit patchy, but it’s also got a ton of positives. Positives such as being super easy to use, applying a decently rich and intense layer of pigment, being precise enough to correctly apply blush every time, and being amazing at blending. It’s the fact that it applies blushes so well and that it blends them so easily that makes it a winner – not a loser – in my book. Yeah, the QC could certainly be better, but it more than makes up for it when it matters: when you apply blushes. I love how good my blushes look with this brush; sure it may not be such a professional-looking result like what the BH Blush Brush does, but it is still a very good one, nonetheless. It’s affordable, it’s pretty good, and it gives great results – what more could you want? For a beginner brush nothing more, I’d say! And it still functions admirably well even after I had already used much more expensive blush brushes, proving that price isn’t the be all end all, always. I like it quite a lot, so I will happily recommend it, despite its flaws. Yay! Another basic Wet n Wild brush that is good, continuing the track record!
