I Heart Revolution Chocolate Contour Palette [Fair] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 17, 2024

The next review is the I ❤ Revolution Chocolate Contour Palette, in the shade Fair!

I bought this palette because I had still been searching for the perfect contouring product and this one was too cute to pass up! Just look at it, it looks like a delicious bar of chocolate! And since I already have a couple of products from the Chocolate range and they were all really good, I was expecting this palette to be just as good. And besides, a chocoholic like me cannot pass up on something that looks (and smells??) like chocolate! So, let's see how good it is! And most importantly: does it actually smell like chocolate?

First, the packaging. It’s a carboard packaging that looks like a bar of chocolate. It would’ve been cooler if the individual “pieces” of chocolate were 3D, though. Still, it’s adorable enough as it is! The cardboard is sturdy enough. I love how it looks half-unwrapped! The main text is reflective, like with the rest of the Chocolate range. The rest of the text is an adorable hot pink colour, so that it matches the rest of the range.

The palette itself looks even more like a chocolate bar... yum! It feels sturdy and high quality. Inside, you will find a mirror that is a bit too thin for me personally so I use a table mirror instead. But it's a good mirror nonetheless. Also, check out that note, it says: "Smell Me!"... well, don't mind if I do!

Ingredients: no nourishing ingredients nor parabens.  The scent is fairly subtle and smells totally like chocolate, so delicious! YUM! Judging by the note under the mirror, they obviously knew people would like the smell! And it keeps that smell for much longer than what the PAO is. Speaking of, the expiration date is 12 months after opening, though it perfectly fine for looong after that.

This palette contains a bronzer that is almost like a milk chocolate colour, a slightly cooler toned light brown. There is also a highlighter that is very light, almost like champagne but with more white pigments. Both are appropriate for fair or pale skin. And they work fabulously together!

Various looks showcasing both the contour and highlighter

The pigmentation of both the bronzer and the highlighter is really intense. The bronzer is so intense that I have to blend it out a lot or it will be too dark on my skin. But, when it is blended out it looks really natural. I love the colour of the bronzer, it really works great for neutral undertones like mine. The highlighter is a bit more intensely pigmented than the bronzer but still looks really natural even if I don’t blend it out much. Although, I did have to apply the highlighter carefully because it is really intense. If I'm not careful, it will look too shiny. Of course, both are best applied with brushes.

Wearing just the bronzer

The textures are matte (bronzer) and shimmery (highlighter, duh). Both are extremely easy to use; the bronzer is very finely milled so it blends into the skin immediately and is super easy to blend.  Sometimes even too easy! The highlighter is equally easy to apply and buff into the skin for a natural, radiant finish. The highlighter is pretty easy to blend. I really like how I can contour and highlight my face with this palette to make it look really natural, or if I am feeling bold I can make it look very intense, yet still natural. The highlighter is my favourite of the two, it’s just such a great, versatile shade!

Wearing just the highlighter

Both the bronzer and the highlighter feel light as a feather. After I am done applying them, I can no longer feeling them, and this makes this palette supremely comfortable to wear for hours.

The bronzer is slightly less long-lasting than the highlighter, though both have excellent durability. I have very oily skin, so powder products have known to disappear during the day, as more and more sebum is produced. But not these two! The bronzer still looks good after 6 hours of wearing it, although it may fade just a bit. The highlighter, though, it does not budge! I rarely have problems with highlighters anyways, but this one stays just as intense even after 6 hours have passed! And I also did not experience any irritations or have new acne form, so I would say it is suitable for sensitive skin. It did not dry out my skin at all, either.

The bronzer and the highlighter are equally easily removed with any remover, be it micellar water or a specialised one. The highlighter does not leave residual shimmer. Just a swipe or two with micellar water and you're done!

Conclusion: honestly, this is a fantastic contour palette for fair-skinned people! The design of the packaging is adorable and even inside the powder pans look like little chocolate pieces! I like that they included a mirror, even if it is too narrow to be used effectively. The bronzer is just the right colour for fair skin; it’s not too dark nor too light, it looks perfectly natural when blended properly. The highlighter is super intense, so you might want to be careful how much of it you apply. The colour of the highlighter is a universally flattering light champagne to off-white. The palette looks best when both the bronzer and the highlighter are used together, and the result is naturally contoured and highlighted facial features, unless you want to amp it up and make it super intense, which you can with this palette! Oh, and lest I forget, the powders. Smell. Like. Chocolate. Seriously, it’s legit a chocolate smell that is soo yummy! I'm literally in love with this palette, so much that I haven't been using any other for more than a year... that's how good this palette is! Even though I do have other bronzers and contouring palettes, I vastly prefer this one! So, if you are a chocolate lover, this contour palette will be perfect for you! There are darker shades besides Fair, so all skintones can enjoy this chocolate-inspired palette! I definitely recommend it!
