Depend O2 Nail Polish [707] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 10, 2024

Now, one more nail polish that’s part of the “almost identical colour” trio! This time, it’s the Depend O2 Nail Polish, shade 707!

So, I did not plan to buy this nail polish... but I cooked up a genius plan in my head! DM had a promotion that gave you a bunch of extra points on their loyalty card if you bought products from certain brands – Depend being one of them. While browsing through all the colours they had available, I managed to find three that looked damn near identical under DM's lighting! It would be so funny to buy all three, so I did! I liked the colours anyways, so it wasn’t a forced purchase; this colour looked especially nice. So, let’s see how good this nail polish is!

Packaging: oh my, what a tiny little bottle! This is a clear rectangular bottle that just looks so adorable, doesn’t it? I love the bold white text – it's so eye-catching! And it really stands out from the colour of the nail polish! The cap is almost taller than the bottle! It’s white and closes extremely tightly. Quite a cute design, if a bit simple.

Ingredients: nothing nourishing and 3-free (DBP, formaldehyde, toluene). The scent is like most other nail polishes. The expiration date is 12 months after opening.

The brush is a small, but relatively wide flat brush. It’s an excellent brush that doesn’t seem to have the issue that shade 724 of this range had (that it causes bubbles to form). It picks up a huge amount of polish – be sure to tap off the excess! This kind of formula requires thin coats to be layered, so you really need only a small amount of polish on the brush. The brush applies polish evenly and thickly and it is usually pretty precise, although it can get a bit messy on the sides of the nails.

Colour: this is another light nude colour, but this one is almost perfectly beige. Unlike shade 724, which had a very small amount of rose tones in it, this one is pure light beige. No rose tones at all here! I love this colour, it is a bit cold (from the lack of any warm tones), but it looks so cool (pun not intended!) and is great for pale skintones. This colour is lighter than my skin, but it shares many of the undertones that my skin has, so it’s a great match. In terms of what I’d call this particular shade of beige... hmm, it might be closest to the colour bone. Some might say that this colour looks a bit dead, but I like it nonetheless!

The formula is pretty thick but it isn’t goopy or unpleasant to use. It’s quite silky and spreads evenly with ease. It also feels unusually creamy and luxe! Now, I would usually prefer a bit thinner formulas, but this one is just such a joy to use!

One coat is already pretty opaque; it can go up to almost 100% opacity depending how thick the layer is. I would suggest applying a thin coat, though. It’s a bit uneven with one coat, though, and it looks a bit thin like this, so I will apply a second coat. Oh yeah, it’s so much better now! The colour looks just right and it’s completely opaque and looks rich. It doesn’t, however, look too thick at all! It actually looks and feels quite breathable, like they advertised! The texture is glossy.

Longevity is not this nail polish’s strong suit. Just like the other Depend O2 nail polishes, this one, too, struggles to stay on good shape. Chipping is a bit worse than on shade 724; here, the chipping started on day 3, and it did not get much worse... until I washed my hair. A hair wash caused a good few chips on a couple of nails. It’s still in remarkably good condition, but it is plainly visible that it’s chipped off in some places. The much bigger problem is that it gets scratched up so easily! The morning after I applied the nail polish it was covered in all kinds of scratches, big and small. Some of them were quite deep, too! But despite all that, it still kept its glossy finish, so that’s pretty good!

This nail polish is super easy to remove! It doesn’t take a lot of rubbing to remove, my nails are thankful for this! Although it might take a bit to break through it initially, but after that it is smooth sailing. It also doesn’t leave any stains since it’s such a subtle colour.

All in all, just like the other Depend O2 nail polishes, this one shows promise but is kept from being great by some flaws. The brush here is good, a bit better than with shade 724 because it causes fewer bubbles to form. It’s a very nice flat brush that is large enough to be easy to use on all nails (even the pinky). The formula is thick but it feels creamy and very nice to use. However, do try to apply a thin coat because it looks best with two thin coats instead of one thick. Indeed, with two thin coats it looks rich and vibrant without seeming too thick. It’s also completely opaque with two coats. I love this light beige colour, it’s so natural but, because it is lighter than my skin, it is also quite eye-catching! It’s a great nail polish for when you can’t decide which colour to wear; this one goes with everything and looks flattering and elegant, to boot. But I did say that this nail polish has problems, didn’t I? These being the fact that it gets scratched to bits from normal day-to-day activities. Just in the first 24 hours it gets so scratched up that you can literally see the scratches. It’s a bloody miracle that this doesn’t ruin the glossy finish! So a top coat is a necessity. Fortunately, it doesn’t get chipped very much, and even a hair wash doesn’t damage it significantly. Although it does get chipped more than shade 724, especially during a hair wash. The presence of bubbles, the chipping and, most importantly, the plentiful scratches are all significant problems. This makes me wish that this nail polish was better – that it tolerated life better. But sadly, it doesn’t, which makes me sad. No matter how pretty the colour is, it cannot cover up all the glaring problems. Sadly, I will not be giving this nail polish my recommendation. Wish I could...
