Relove by Revolution Colour Play Eyeshadow Palette [Fantasy] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 17, 2024
And now the second review of the Relove by Revolution products here. This is the Relove
by Revolution Colour Play Eyeshadow Palette, shade Fantasy!
I knew I wanted to buy an eyeshadow palette from (the then
new sub-brand) Relove by Revolution, I just couldn’t figure out which shade I
wanted, but the weirder the combination of colours the better. So I finally settled for this interesting combination of purples and
browns. All for only 2.99€! Before jumping to any conclusions regarding the
quality and the price, let’s first see what it’s like, actually!
Packaging: even though it might look a bit cheap to some, I
rather like its small size and simplicity. It’s just a plastic packaging that has
a clear plastic lid with bold white “Fantasy Shadow Palette” text written on it
and is white in the back with an info sticker. The lid snaps tightly and seems
quite robust. I really like the designs of the text on the front, it looks so
modern to me!
Ingredients: no nourishing ingredients or parabens here. The
scent very faint, a little bit soapy I think. The expiration date is 12 months
after opening.

Closer look at all the shades |
I must say that I rather like the selection of colours in
this palette! Yes, it might be a slightly odd combination of colours, but that makes it more interesting to use. There are 6 colours in this palette: a finely milled shimmery rosy
brown (1), a finely milled shimmery light brown with lilac shimmer (2), a finely milled
shimmery lavender purple (3), a shimmery medium brown (4), a matte light brown (5), and
finally a very shimmery, almost like glitter, purple-pink (6). My favourite is the
medium brown shade (4), it’s gorgeous, and the light brown with lilac shimmer (2) is so
interesting! I honestly like them all and they coordinate very well with each
other.

Swatches of all the shades |
In terms of pigmentation, all 6 shades are pretty intensely
pigmented; the most intense are the medium brown (4) and lavender shades (3, 6). The least
pigmented shade is the single matte shade (5), but that’s not to say that it’s poorly
pigmented, it’s just very close to my skintone. The two extra large pans, the lightest
brown (1) and light brown with lilac shimmer (2) are very nicely pigmented and the
purple shimmer is clearly visible, it’s way more visible than the brown used as
a base for this shade. The lavender shade (3) is super pigmented, and looks so
beautiful even on its own, just like the medium brown (4). That one is so pigmented
that it looks wonderful used solo. And the pink shimmer shade (6) is insanely
pigmented so I have to be careful when applying it. They all look true to their
appearance in pans.
I had absolutely no issues applying any of the 6 shades. The
matte brown is super easy to apply with a brush, and all the other shades,
while being a tiny bit more difficult to apply with a brush, apply incredibly
easily using fingers. I do think that they are easier to apply with a brush
than plenty of other shimmer eyeshadows that I have. And they all blend so
beautifully, like, it’s so easy to create various looks with this palette due
to how good the formula of these shadows is! I think that the shimmers tend to
be easier to blend than the matte, when it’s usually the other way around;
quite interesting!
There was no fall-out at all with this palette, and all the
shades are so light that I didn’t even feel them on my lids, not even the more
coarse shimmery pink.
During testing I don’t use a primer, so that I can see the true nature
of the eyeshadows and how long they last. So, these shadows are incredibly
long-lasting, but, as you can see from the swatches, they do tend to crease
fairly quickly, and it gets a bit worse during the day. That’s pretty unfortunate,
and disappointed me. However, none of the 6 shades fade or move throughout the day.
Removal is extremely easy, be it using micellar water or an
oil-based (recommended!) remover. All the shades are pretty much equally easy to
remove. Although, the shimmery shades tend to leave residual shimmer if you remove them with micellar water.
To sum up, this is a fantastic little palette! It defies the
notion that ‘cheap’ products necessarily have to be bad quality by being
intensely pigmented, super easy to apply, remove and blend. The single negative
I have to say is that it creases a lot when not using a primer underneath, but
a lot of shimmers do crease anyways. It’s very long-lasting, besides the
creasing. And the colours are gorgeous and make for some quite interesting
looks. It would be worth it even if it cost 3 times the price, but for such a
low price, it is a spectacular palette that is well-worth buying!
Recommendation!
