Relove by Revolution Super Matte Pressed Powder [Translucent] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 17, 2024

Continuing with the exploration of Relove by Revolution, this time we have the Relove by Revolution Super Matte Pressed Powder, in the shade Translucent!

I have been using the same old Makeup Obsession pressed powder for ages, and, while it is certainly good, I wanted to see if I could find a better one. And would you look at that! Relove had a setting powder as part of their launch range! Since I am already exploring Relove, and I am looking for a better setting/pressed powder, I figured I might as well buy this one as it is quite cheap. Apparently, according to Revolution, it is matte, silky soft and weightless; this would be great for my oily skin! So, let’s see what it’s really like!

Packaging: as most Relove products, it is quite simple, with big, bold text. I love this, it makes it look modern and cool! The lid closes securely enough although it can feel a bit flimsy sometimes. I do love how large it looks! It definitely looks more expensive than it really is!

Ingredients: niacinamide/vitamin B3 for nourishment. Unfortunately, there are parabens here: methylparaben and propylparaben. There’s also a lot of clays, (kaolin, illite); this is how this powder achieves such a natural matte look. The scent is not very pleasant. It smells kinda cheap, you know, powdery and almost like it’s gone off. Not exactly what I like, but it’s not the worst. The expiration date is 12 months after opening.

Colour: even though the shade is called Translucent, this powder isn’t truly translucent or colourless. This is actually a very, very light beige that looks almost white. It’s a neutral colour that is perfect for fair/pale skin, and because it’s got neutral undertones, it should suit most very light skintones. I’m neutral undertones myself, and it is a perfect match for my pale skin. The pigmentation is actually very good!

Swatch on clean skin

This is a pressed powder that you can wear all alone or over foundation to mattify your skin. I use it to both mattify my skin, set foundation/concealer and to perfect the finish. Since it’s actually quite pigmented, this powder has some degree of coverage. Of course, if you have severe acne or freckles or the like it won’t be able to fully cover it on its own; however, it does cover the skin in such a natural veil that helps conceal blemishes and imperfections to an impressive degree! Even all on its own, it still looks great – no need for a foundation underneath! Now yes, this coverage is light to maaaybe medium if you really pack on a lot of layers, I would advise against applying too many layers, though, even though it is breathable, you don’t want to suffocate your skin like this. Especially if you have oily skin! This powder, I feel, sets makeup pretty well! It looks noticeably better throughout the day than with my previous powder. More even and pigmented. Although, this powder cannot prevent my face from becoming oiler throughout the day; at the end of the day my face is oily and shiny, but much less so than with any other powder I have used. It honestly looks more like a natural, healthy shine than unhealthy oiliness. That of course means that, if I want to stay totally matte, I would have to keep reapplying the powder every few hours. Honestly, this is better than I expected it would be!

The formula is super finely milled; it is literally like the finest powder you can find. This helps it blend into the skin better and it also helps make it more comfortable. Plus, it is so wonderfully soft and silky! Both in the pan and on my skin (my skin feels silky soft after I apply the powder)!

It’s called ‘Super Matte’ for a reason! See, when it’s freshly applied it is truly ultra matte, with not a trace of any shine. You might think that this looks cakey and unnatural but it doesn’t! In fact, it looks incredibly natural! And it is so easy to apply and blend because it literally blends with your skin in an instant.

It’s never uneven or cakey (even if you apply a ton of it!) or, hell, it’s not even visible, yet it does so much to improve the look of the skin! Like, my skin looks so healthy and matte. And it also perfects the foundation/concealer underneath so much that it literally fixes any mistakes and blends unblended parts. So even if I am currently dissatisfied with how my face looks with foundation and concealer, as soon as I apply this powder, it looks 100% perfect! It’s a miracle! And so natural, too!

But it is also super comfortable! Despite having a lot of clays inside, it doesn’t feel heavy at all; in fact, it is literally weightless, just like Revolution promised! I like to apply a ton of setting powder (probably more than I should), and yet this powder still feels weightless and super silky. As advertised, it is non-comedogenic; never has it caused me to breakout or have any sort of irritation!

This is the main concern I had with setting powders, that they would clog my pores, because I already struggle enough with acne as it is. And this one not only is completely breathable and light, it also helps keep my skin in good condition with niacinamide! Plus, it doesn’t dry out my skin one bit, so it stays happy throughout the day!

As for the longevity, it is very good – or well, as good as it can be on skin as oily as mine! As I already said, sebum breaks through the powder after a while, there’s nothing that can be done to prevent this completely, I am afraid (at least with my skin). But given how natural the shine looks, I don’t mind it much. I’m sure that some of the powder ends up being disintegrated by sebum and sweat, but it still looks fantastic after a few hours. Of course, a touch up would make it look matte and fresh again, but I don’t dislike how it looks after a few hours of wearing it. It’s certainly longer-lasting than my previous setting powder!

Of course, drier skin types will definitely have better longevity with this powder than I do – my skin is simply too problematic to stay ultra matte for long, no matter what. I should also mention that this powder is not at all waterproof or water-resistant, so sweat can affect it badly.

Removing this powder is as easy as you could imagine. No matter what you use, it will come off easily, with barely any scrubbing needed. Good for sensitive skin!

All in all, what a fantastic pressed powder! I was kinda afraid how it would look in terms of colour; I always have problems finding right shades of foundations and powders due to how light my skin is. Yes, I know this is translucent, but I was still worried. Fortunately, this colour is a perfect match for my skin! And it is everything I ever wanted in one pressed powder: comfortable, lightweight, non-comedogenic, and mattifying! The formula is so silky and smooth and soft, like, it’s almost plush! And it always applies perfectly, no uneven areas or patchiness; it doesn’t look cakey – ever – even if you apply way too much like I usually do. I adore how ultra matte but still natural my skin looks! Like, it’s how I wish my skin looked all the time! And I cannot even feel it on my skin after I apply it, it is so lightweight! Endlessly comfortable! It sets makeup pretty well, even if it doesn’t keep my skin ultra matte for too long (that’s okay though, I know my skin and how problematic it is). After a few hours sebum breaks through and my skin becomes shiny again, but – and this is amazing – it looks like natural, healthy shine. The niacinamide helps calm down the skin so that it stays in great shape. Super Matte? Yeah, but also super in general! Almost perfect pressed powder for me! The only negatives are that it doesn’t quite prevent sebum from breaking out, and that it has parabens. But besides that, it is literally perfect! And so cheap, too! This has become my favourite setting powder, one I keep coming back to again and again because of how good it is for my oily skin! Highest recommendation!
