Relove by Revolution Baby Gloss Lip Gloss [Sweet] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 17, 2024

Today I have a couple of things that I will review, the first being the Relove by Revolution Baby Gloss Lip Gloss, in the shade Sweet!

Back when I ordered this lip gloss Relove was a newly launched sub-brand of Revolution Beauty. They claimed their products to be every bit as good as more expensive brands (NB: Relove is the most affordable Revolution sub-brand as of the time of this writing). So I grabbed a few items just to see whether that’s true. I love lip glosses in general, so it was pretty certain that I'd be getting one of these little lip glosses; I decided on a pretty sweet looking colour, that would be good with all kinds of looks. Let's see if this lip gloss is as good as more expensive ones!

Starting with the packaging: it’s a very small (so cute!) clear plastic bottle with a white cap that’s fits very nicely. All the information is either on the back or on the included sticker; on the front there is the name of this lip gloss range in bold white letters. I really like this design, it looks really modern!Plus, it's so tiny, which is always adorable!

Ingredients: vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and no parabens. For a lipgloss that costs €2.99 I did not expect to see HA! The scent is not too intense, and it smells sweet, a bit like vanilla or coconut; the longer it has been since opening it the more the scent will become like roses. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening it.

Colour: a really pretty soft rose with a large amount of pink pigments. This makes it a very sweet colour, perfect for spring. This colour looks so intense on pale skin! Also, this is one of those colours that layers so well with so many other colours, it is so incredibly versatile!

Pigmentation is amazing, I really love it when a lip gloss manages to be just as pigmented as a lipstick! It doesn’t require any product (lipstick, lip liner...) underneath as it’s pigmented enough on its own. But it does look great on top of a lipstick, too!

The formula is very thick and almost creamy, it does feel a bit ‘wet’ when freshly applied but it becomes creamy over a couple of hours. You definitely know that you are wearing this, because it’s heavy on the lips due to its thickness. I would have liked it more if it were lighter. As for the application, it’s really easy because it applies evenly; the applicator is excellent, although it could pick up a wee bit more pigment. More on the applicator in a minute.

The texture is very, very glossy, almost glass-like. I love this type of gloss, the more glossiness the better! And it stays pretty much as glossy hours after applying it. Unfortunately, this lip gloss is quite tacky, such a shame! And this tackiness combined with the heavy, thick formula means that it is not really the most comfortable lip gloss around.

As far a lip glosses go, this one is very long-lasting; yes, the colour does fade a bit after a few hours but it fades evenly and it is still gorgeous and very glossy. Of course, I don’t expect lip glosses to last anywhere as long as lipsticks on my lips, and they usually don’t. Sadly, but as expected, food destroys it, whether it is greasy food or not doesn’t matter. So you will definitely have to reapply it after eating or drinking. That’s pretty much what I thought it would be like to be honest.

There is a positive though, and that is that this gloss is not at all drying, probably mostly thanks to hyaluronic acid. My lips feel like I have applied some thick lip balm, not a lip gloss, they feel soft and nourished.

And when you want to remove just use some micellar water or whatever you use to remove make up and it comes right off, just one swipe. Though, as with many lip glosses, there may be some slight residual tackiness or waxiness.

Now, as promised, I will talk about the applicator. This is typical doe foot applicator that, despite its size, applies pigment so evenly and applies so much in one swipe that it was a real surprise to me. It is angled enough to reach the more tricky areas like the corners of the mouth without smudging and getting all over your skin. The only thing I would like to mention is that, even though it picks up large amount of pigment, it still seems like it’s not enough.

Maybe I an just imagining things, but it seems like only the tip of the applicator actually picks up pigment; of course, if the whole applicator picked it up you could literally apply it in one swipe (Maybelline’s Lifter Gloss is a great example of an exceptionally designed applicator). I still think that this is a great applicator, don’t get me wrong!

Conclusion: hey, for the price of only €2.99 you cannot really expect a ton of miracles with this gloss. But, what Relove did with it, just how good it is and hydrates lips, and is very long-lasting, that is a welcome surprise! I will never be one to claim that ‘cheap’ make up is objectively worse than more expensive and this lip gloss proves that I am right. It honestly has no right to be this good and cost so little! The only downsides are that it just feels heavy and that it’s tacky. Okay, so it gets demolished by food, but so do 90% (if not more) of glosses. It’s also a very lovely colour, a bit dark, but perfect for autumn, I think. So, is Relove right to claim that their products are just as good as expensive ones? This lip gloss would point to yes. As I really love it, I will definitely recommend it!
