Essence So Cherry Happy Limited Edition Overview

By Maychiri's Thoughts - May 30, 2025

Hiya!

Last time, we checked out Catrice's loosely cherry inspired LE, Eternal Red. And as I hinted, Essence has a much more on-the-nose cheery themed LE available at the same time.

This is what we will be looking at today, the So Cherry Happy limited edition! Nice pun!

"Fruity, fresh & full of glow! ✨ Add some sweet cherry vibes to your look with the new SO CHERRY HAPPY trend edition. 🍒"
- Essence, www.essence.eu

Obviously, a spring collection, as cherries are one of the most delectable of spring's gifts (aside from strawberries). I love cherries, but the sweeter the better, in my opinion! I love sour cherries as well, but in yogurts and such, they are just too sour for me to eat fresh. But sweet cherries? Oooh! Now, that's the stuff! Such a shame they have become so expensive though... thanks, Essence, for giving us some cherry inspired makeup in place of real cherries!

A slightly larger LE compared to the similar Catrice Eternal Red, which had only 4 products. This one has 7 products, mostly focused on the lips. It is of note that there are no eyeshadows or even eyeliners... imagine if they had a shimmery cherry red eyeliner, for example! But instead, we got face, body & nail products. Nice variety, though how much is it necessary to have both a classic lip balm and a peptide lip gloss? So, if you wanted to make a full cherry-themed look, you would have to use other products, outside of this LE.

Let's start with the largest category, then: the lips! For this, we have 3 items: a lip balm, a peptide lip gloss (in 2 shades), and a liquid lipstick. This will make a fine set, along with some care after removing the liquid lipstick.

Lip balms are always useful, though for me personally, they are often not strong enough to prevent my lips chapping out. I usually stick to lip oils, but if lip balms are cute enough, I do buy them. And look at this lip balm! It is positively adorable! The cherries aren't just a different colour, they are also fully 3D! It's also got a subtle red colour and a cherry scent, to further push that cherry theme. Awesome start!

Next, some more lip care - and gloss, in the form of a peptide lip gloss. The shape of the tube and applicator is very similar to Essence's The Super Peptide Glossy Lip Treatment, which, itself, seems to be very much inspired by Rhode's Peptide Lip Treatment. The name is similar as well. This cherry version is slimmer, and comes in two different shades: red and pink. Red makes more sense for this theme, but I like the pink much more.

Apparently, these lip glosses are pigmented, which is a surprise! The red shade will go phenomenally with the liquid lipstick. These are also cherry scented (though cherry & bubblegum) and super glossy! I cannot wait to try this lip gloss, hopefully, the peptides will be able to keep my lips supple. I also wonder whether the applicator tip is squishy...?

Speaking of the liquid lipstick, here it is.  I wasn't originally planning to buy this liquid lipstick because I don't use red lipsticks as often as I perhaps should. This is a classic red matte lipstick, though they claim that it is comfortable to wear. Good! Matte liquid lipsticks are often drying and crusty, so I am hoping that this one is more like a mousse lipstick. I have been using mousse liquid lipsticks recently and man, they are so comfy!

It seems that this lipstick has a flat applicator; eh, I would prefer a doe foot, but both Essence and Catrice have been using flat applicators in their liquid lipsticks a lot recently. I guess I will soon see what this lipstick is like, since I happened to find it at 50% off!

What now... hmm. Let's do... the face - yes. For the face, we have a face primer and a blushlighter.

The primer is very... interesting, I guess? It's got these little gel pearls inside, which are, supposedly, "super hydrating". So, I guess they pop when you pump the primer out and then mix uniformly with the rest of the primer. I don't like that it's light red, last thing I need is more redness in my face. Hopefully, it applies clear, despite being quite red in the product photo.

This isn't one of those grippy primers, it seems. Instead, it is extremely hydrating and smooth. This may be too much for my oily skin, though I do love that it is infused with Aloe, cucumber extract, and niacinamide. This would be wonderful for problematic skin! But I am super picky with my primers, so I won't be getting this.

The other face product is a blushlighter; i.e., one of those "blush & highlighter in one" products. While this is undoubtedly useful, though they are almost always too dark for pale skin. This one is most definitely too dark for a highlighter for me, and the blush may be too intensely red. Also, I heard that the red parts apply patchy, leaving a red streaky finish, while the light pink applies nice and even. This makes it difficult to make it look good. Whether this actually happens or not, I do not know personally.

Though it is mega cute! Embossed just like the lip balm, with many different sizes of cherries on display. The pink is such a good blush colour ngl! Shame the red kinda ruins it. Though, also, I prefer matte blushes because I have enough shine from my oily skin anyways, so blushlighters aren't too useful to me. I don't want my entire cheeks to be shiny and for my pores to look enlarged. Shame.

Then, a... body spray? Sure, why not, I guess? They are always useful, be it after the gym, in place of a perfume, or to just spritz throughout the day. I myself use body sprays before bed sometimes, but scents have to be gentle for this. I am unsure that a "cherry and sweet florals" scent would be all that relaxing. Cool and very much on theme, but just not for me.

To end this juicy LE... nail stickers??? I mean yeah, why not? Essence likes their nail stickers in LEs. No shade - they are almost always adorable. 78 nail stickers in total, with varying designs: cherries (duh!), lip kisses, cherry gelato, hearts, cherry cupcakes... oh my! Such variety! And they are also lightly cherry scented - I love it when nail stickers come with an unexpected scent to them! Very cute, and would tie a nice bow on an already adorable collection. I imagine light pink nails with cherry red tips with one of these cherry stickers on, and red juicy glossy lips and nice red cheeks - sounds adorable, no?

So, all in all, quite a cute collection and very fitting for spring.

But there isn't a whole lot that I am interested in, just the lip gloss and the liquid lipstick. I already have idea for looks that I want to make that are cherry themed with them. While parts of this LE may seem kinda like filler (*ahem* body spray *ahem*), it is a well-thought out collection in my opinion. Is it a bit basic to theme a spring collection on cherries? Oh absolutely - and Catrice was partially guilty of that as well, at the same time, even! Maybe they should have spread out these two LEs a little bit further apart from each other?

I do love the colour story of this LE, though. It is so bright and cheerful and just happy. And everything is just so darn cute! Again, I just wish there was something for the eyes,so that you aren't forced to use the blushlighter as a makeshift eyeshadow. But overall, I like this collection!

Phew - that's both of these spring LEs out of the way! Oh gosh... there are newer LEs already... oh man... well, look forward to that soon!

See you soon!
