Alverde Hydro Feuchtigkeits-Spendende Maske Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - July 05, 2025

Just one interesting face mask that I got as a gift: this is the Alverde Hydro Feuchtigkeits-Spendende Maske!

This is a very peculiar mask, huh? I normally use masks exclusively before bed, so that they can be absorbed properly and do what they are supposed to, but this is a day and night mask. Not both at once; one half is a day mask while the other half is a night mask. It’s going to be tricky slotting this into my morning routine. Also, it’s definitely not something I would buy on my own, since my previous experience with Alverde masks wasn’t too good. Natural doesn’t always mean better; in fact, it seldom means better. So I wasn’t too thrilled when my mother gave me this mask, but hey, she spent money and at least a little bit of time so I really should try it out, right? If for nothing else, then for curiosity’s sake. Besides, the ingredients list seems promising, so I might actually see some results! Perhaps some hydration, like the name implies? Well, time will tell.

Packaging: really, could it be more simple? It’s just two sachets that are joined in the middle, with one having the daytime mask and the other having the night-time mask. There’s perforations down the middle so that you can easily separate the two. The sachets themselves are not the easiest to open, as usual. I had to use scissors to cut it open. As for the design, I like the blue, going from sky blue to a very dark navy blue. Obviously, this is supposed to symbolise the two parts of the day: the day and the night. I like how the day mask looks like you are looking directly into the Sun on a completely clear day, but I like the design of the night mask even more! The little scattered stars look so peaceful and calming. All the information about both masks is in the back. Very minimalist, but quite pretty design.

Ingredients (day mask): glycerine, lactic acid (as sodium lactate), Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, pot marigold (Calendula officinalis) flower extract, hyaluronic acid for nourishment. No parabens. So, out of 9 ingredients that this mask has, 5 of them are hydrating or calming or nourishing or what have you. This is amazing, and it sounds very promising! Aloe and hyaluronic acid and calendula? That sounds super hydrating and calming! Although, I really don’t like how alcohol is the second ingredient.

The night mask has: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, lactic acid (as sodium lactate), mango (Mangifera indica) seed butter, olive (Olea europaea) fruit oil, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E for nourishment. Again, no parabens. It also has a few more oils, as if the ones already there weren’t enough: sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seed oil and soy (Glycine soja) oil. And also algae Fucus serratus extract. I don’t know why it has quite so many oils and greases, my skin for sure won’t enjoy being smothered in so many oils. Alcohol is again quite close to the top of the list, not good. The day mask definitely seems more promising. One smells atrocious, while the other smells rather great! The day mask has just as intense a scent as the night mask, but it doesn’t smell like antibiotics. No, this mask smells relaxingly fresh, and a bit creamy. It also smells somewhat sweet. Best I can describe it as marzipan-like. It really smells like marzipan to me, which, even though I don’t like the taste of it, I do like how it smells, so I like this scent. It’s easy on the nose. Thank god, after that night mask’s horrible smell! Oh my god, the night mask smells absolutely atrocious. It’s got a very intense, herbal scent that also smells vaguely sweet. And a bit greasy. Honestly, it smells like Klavocin/Augmentin syrup... yuck. This is a scent that always triggers my gag reflex; I was already feeling sick and nauseous even before opening this sachet... this really isn’t helping me keep my food inside me. It literally smells synthetic and plasticy and just completely horrendous. I hate it. Yuck. The expiration date is listed along the upper part of the day sachet, as a concrete date. The day side of the mask should be left on for a mere 5-10 minutes and then wiped off with a cotton pad, while the night side is supposed to be left on overnight, and then be wiped off the next morning. I don’t know, this sound messy...

The day mask before wiping it off

The day mask is completely colourless, albeit it is slightly cloudy.

The night mask is pure white, pretty simple.

Ooh, the day mask is super lightweight! It feels gelly, not at all greasy or occlusive. Very comfortable! Of course, there is way too much serum inside the sachet, I used roughly half and that was already plenty for my face. Oh yeah, the day mask feels much better on my skin than the night mask.

It doesn’t feel constricting at all during the day, once it absorbs. However, one very annoying thing about this mask is that it tends to pill quite a bit throughout the day. This makes it unsuitable to be worn under makeup, sadly.

The night mask is, as I expected, very greasy. However, it feels quite lightweight on my skin, not like it’s suffocating it. With all those butters, I really thought that my skin would feel suffocated and very uncomfortable, but here we are! The mask is super easy to spread due to how greasy it is, but there’s really way too much of it inside the sachet. I used about half and even that was beginning to be too much for my face. It doesn’t feel very constricting after it absorbs, either. Just a little bit, I can live with that.

The day mask feels very hydrating and calming while it is absorbing. It feels moist on my skin, but that’s okay because that shows just how hydrating it is. It feels relaxing and slightly cooling, but it doesn’t have menthol, so it is a comfortable cooling sensation. Also, it doesn’t feel like it is suffocating my skin, or like it’s going to cause breakouts. Just endlessly comfortable and light! I love it!

Skin after removing the night mask
Oh, umm... the night mask feels almost minty while it is absorbing. Curious. It doesn’t really feel nourishing or even hydrating, it’s just mostly a purifying feeling. It doesn’t feel like it’s causing any irritations, and it’s pleasantly lightweight. The slightly cooling, minty feeling is something that I don’t know how to feel about, I don’t think I like it that much. Still, at least it doesn’t feel horribly greasy and occlusive! I was sure that I would need to remove this mask with a cotton pad before I went to bed; I thought that it would make a real mess out of my hair and pillowcase, but, surprisingly enough, it actually absorbed fully! It was the right call to apply only a half of it; had I applied it all, it really would have made a mess.

Skin after removing the night mask
The day mask is definitely the more powerful of the two. Just 5 minutes after applying it, and I am already feeling how incredibly hydrating it is! My skin feels deeply hydrated, and, as a result, slightly brighter and plumper. The biggest change is in the undereye area, which doesn’t look as dark and tired anymore, instead, it looks hydrated and slightly plump. Besides that, my skin feels calmed down and pretty happy, and it looks even and calm, too!

And no breakouts, unlike with the night mask. The night mask has some effect on my skin, but it is not very impressive. It seems like my skin is slightly plumper and looks a bit more hydrated, but that’s about it. It does feel nourished though. However, the next morning I found 2 very angry pimples, so this mask might have caused a breakout. I am not surprised, it is hella greasy after all, and my skin is already oily and acne-prone. Well...

Overall result after using both masks

Overall, the difference between the two masks is very obvious. I thought that they would both be meh, but it’s only the night mask that is like that. Why? Well, because it is far too greasy for my type of skin, and causes breakouts overnight. I was 100% expecting this after reading the ingredients list, so it’s not really a disappointment. But still, I cannot use it as my skin is obvious the wrong type for it, perhaps dry skin will like the mask more.

But the day mask is not nourishing enough for dry skin; in fact, the ingredients seem targeted towards sensitive, oily skin more than anything else. So, who’s the target demographic, then? "Normal" skin? Anyways, the day mask is quite great actually, which was a welcome breath of fresh air after the bad night mask. This mask is completely different, it is a gel formula instead of a cream one, and it is colourless instead of being white. It’s also much more soothing and feels extremely hydrating throughout the day. My skin is not used to feeling this hydrated! It visibly makes my skin more hydrated and slightly plumper and more calm, which is actually something, compared to the night mask that has barely any results aside from maaaaybe making my skin slightly plumper.

After blotting the excess of the day mask, the skin looks moist and glistening

However, it also pills like crazy over the course of 8 hours of wearing it, which is hella annoying. This is the one thing that really drives me up the wall because it will ruin any makeup you put on top of it. Luckily, I didn’t wear makeup that day but it was still extremely annoying. So, like, how do I even rate these? The night cream is bad and smells awful while the day cream is pretty good with some flaws and smells quite nice. I guess that the average of it is the most sensible option. But am I going to buy this again, with my own money? No, it has too many problems. I had fun trying it out, though! I don't think I would recommend this, however.
