L’Oréal Paris X Isabel Marant Color Riche Lipstick [Palais Royal Field] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 02, 2023
Hello,
this is the first review for today: the L’Oréal Paris
X Isabel Marant Color Riche Lipstick, shade Palais Royal Field.
This lipstick was bought when I was still a makeup newbie, and
was still exploring what was available. I found this lipstick in the clearance
bin, at 50% off! Even then I knew that L’Oréal lipsticks are expensive, so to
see it fairly affordable at 50% off, it made me really excited, so I bought it
without even thinking twice. Even though I was in a very pink lipstick phase
back then, I bought a red lipstick anyway, it’s always nice to buy yourself
a sexy red lipstick! This lipstick was part of a special limited edition
collaboration between the designer Isabel Marant and L’Oréal Paris; besides
lipsticks, there was also a brow mascara, cheek & lip gloss, skin
beautifier, and an eyeshadow duo. It’s quite a versatile collection, and bound
to be chic! So, let’s see what this lipstick is like!
Packaging: so modern and fashionable, as expected from
Isabel Marant. It’s a black rubbery matte case with bold white text. There’s a sticker
on the underside that matches the colour of the lipstick. The cap fits
extremely tightly, making a satisfying click when closed. It’s kept closed by
the little plastic part in the back. Inside, the retracting mechanism is very
high quality and robust. Maybe you noticed it, but if you didn’t, the cap is
actually askew; I love that it’s leaning a bit, it’s just so cool. The material
of the case is so fun to touch because it is so soft and rubbery, and fun to
gently scratch!
But the best part of this packaging are the inspirational
messages:
“Smile”, “Wear nothing but a smile and your style. Wear nothing but a smile and some style. Wear nothing but your smile.”
And it’s true, smiles make
everything better!
Ingredients: jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil, vitamin E, dog
rose (Rosa canina)/rosehip fruit oil, oil-seed camellia (Camellia oleifera)
seed oil for nourishment. No parabens. A lot of oils in this lipstick! That’s
why it feels so comfortable! The scent is breath-taking: it smells just like
roses! It’s a very intense and perfumey scent, so it might be too intense for
some. Me personally? I love it! I don’t mind that it’s this intense, and it
reminds me of those old-fashioned expensive lipsticks that would always smell
like this! Most of the scent comes from geraniol, which can cause irritations. The
expiration date is 24 months after opening. But don’t worry too much about the
PAO, both the scent and the performance of the lipstick remain unchanged for
way more than those 24 months!
Colour: a rich, intense, true red with slightly more blue
undertones than orange. It’s a really sexy, gorgeous red that you’d see on the
old Hollywood stars (think Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, et
al). This is a universally flattering shade of red that looks especially
stunning on fair and pale skin. And it pair well with so many other colours (be
it make up or clothes). A very classic shade of red. I love that it’s a bit
darker; I think it would look garish if it were a bright, lighter red. This way
it’s just perfect!
Pigmentation is incredible! It’s super, super pigmented even
with the slightest touch. And it stays just as intensely pigmented for hours! The
texture is soft matte, with a very subtle, waxy sheen. It’s a very
expensive-looking texture, and very chic! It’s also really easy to apply with
the bullet thanks to the easy-glide formula and it is so easy to sharply define
your lips. You don’t even need a lip liner, this lipstick can be as precise as
a lip liner! Fantastic!

The formula of this lipstick is quite heavy and very waxy,
like old-school lipsticks. But it’s not uncomfortable, no, it’s quite nice on
lips, actually! Also, despite it being so waxy, it glides across lips so
easily, without any tugging at all! The heaviness does make it feel occlusive,
but it’s not a big deal. This lipstick smoothens out lips and minimises the
appearance of fine lines on the lips. It just makes the lips look super soft,
which I really love! It just looks really high-end!
And it doesn’t change much
hours after applying it, it is still plenty comfortable and doesn’t dry out at
all, not even on the centre of my bottom lip where product usually dries out.
The longevity is insane! It’s extremely long-lasting, with
no feathering, smudging or fading whatsoever even 8 hours later! It also does
not become drier, so your lips still look velvety soft hours later. It’s not
terribly resistant to food, though. Especially if you are eating greasy food,
you will have to touch it up afterwards as it will fade somewhat.
You might think that such an intense, vibrant red lipstick
would be difficult to remove or that it might leave a red stain. Well, neither
of those is true for this lipstick. It’s gone in an instant when you use
oil-based or gel cleansers, and only takes a tiny bit more effort to remove using
micellar water. There are no stains at all! Wonderful!
Conclusion: a fricking spectacular red lipstick! Like,
almost everything about it is fantastic! The colour is a gorgeous, chic and
sexy true red that would fit any skintone (and is perfectly Parisienne chic). The
formula is quite comfortable; however, it is also very waxy and kinda heavy,
more like the old-school type of lipstick, back when they were heavy and thick.
I love the soft matte finish that blurs any imperfections you might have on
your lips, including the fine lines of the lips. They are smoothed, making your
lips look soft and supple. The longevity is, frankly, incredible, albeit it
doesn’t deal all too well with eating; it fades somewhat after eating,
especially if the food was greasy. But despite those flaws, it is still a
magnificent lipstick, well worth its original price, never mind when it’s 50%
off! Isabel Marant really scored a home run with this lipstick, that’s for
sure; it’s simply brilliant. Sadly, it’s no longer being manufactured, as
L’Oréal Paris X Isabel Marant was but a limited edition, only available for a
short while, then gone forever! Even if you find this lipstick, it will be
roughly 5 years old by this point. But if it were still available, I would give
my top recommendation! It’s almost the perfect red lipstick, after all!
Rating: 9/10
Would buy again? YES (if it wasn’t a limited edition
item...)
