Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil [17 - Tu-Tu Turquoise] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 02, 2023

For the second review today, I have the Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil, shade 17/Tu-Tu Turquoise.

This was, if I am not mistaken, the first eye pencil that I bought, and, of course, I immediately went for the most vibrant shades! Like this bright turquoise automatic liner. I bought this eye pencil along with two other Essence Longlasting eye pencils at Müller. I chose this pencil mostly for the colour (so bright!), but the price was a big reason as well, as it was very cheap.

Anyways, the packaging: simple, just a turquoise plastic pencil with a matching cap and white text. The text is super easy to read. The cap fits nicely so you needn’t worry about it falling off and getting lost. Since this an automatic liner, it twists up using a retracting mechanism which is pretty well-made.

Ingredients: just vitamin E for nourishment but, as usual for Essence, there are no parabens. The scent is barely noticeable, and gentle. The expiration date is 36 months after opening, giving you plenty of time to use it.

As it is an automatic liner, it’s very precise, and it’s pretty easy to draw a cat eye with it. It’s great how the pigment literally glides on the skin, there is absolutely no tugging. Such a lovely creamy formula! Although, this creamy formula is also responsible for this pencil breaking a bit more easily than usual; try to avoid extending it too much and pressing hard against skin. Speaking of the pigment, it is very intense and bright. It looks really pretty on my pale skin. It’s a bright light blue colour.

The texture is metallic, glittery. It might be a bit too bright and glittery for everyday use though, at least in my opinion. It feels a bit dry though, perhaps that's due to all the glitter. But it is not uncomfortable to wear, it just doesn’t feel extremely soft or creamy, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It is super lightweight though, as I barely feel it when it’s on my eyelids.

This eye pencil is pretty long-lasting, just like the name implies. I did not experience any unwanted smudging or fall-out after applying it. And it stayed in place for at least 5-6 hours, which I would consider great given my oily skin (without a primer, of course). It only started to fade slightly after 6 hours. Even the glitter seemed to stay in place for the most part.

Now, when you would like to remove it, just use micellar water and it will come off easily, just mind the glitter, as it can get everywhere if you are not careful. In order to minimise the spread of glitter I like to use an oil-based remover; that way the glitter stays in your eye region and washes off without getting on your cheeks, chin… etc.

Even though there is no included sharpener, the pencil can be sharpened with one of those tiny sharpeners that come with automatic lip/eye liners. And just like all automatic liners that I have, it’s super easy to sharpen, and I don’t think it broke even once (because I kept it almost fully retracted, that way the soft formula doesn’t have a chance to break off).

Conclusion: I like this eye pencil. I think this is a pretty fun colour to wear when you want to make a statement with your eyes, as it’s really bright and visible from far away. Even though I may prefer matte textures, I do not mind the glitter all that much because it doesn’t look cheap. And the performance is very good too: it is long-lasting, and easy to remove. I should also note that it did not irritate my eyes, which are naturally quite dry and sensitive. The only thing I did not like about this pencil is how it felt dry. All in all, if you’d like a fun, bright eye liner, feel free to pick this one, you won’t be disappointed! Recommend it!

Would buy again? Probably NO (it’s a bit too vibrant for everyday use)
