Continuing with the nail polishes, next we have the Trend it
Up UV Powergel Nail Polish, shade 024.
Trend it Up is very hit-or-miss, but I still always come
back to it for some reason. This nail polish was marked down 50%, and I had a
plan to try out as many different nail polishes as I could, so I bought this
one, too. Plus, DM had a coupon that gave me a ton of extra points on their loyalty card, so that was terrifically convenient! Instead of buying a
vibrant colour, I opted to buy a light nude colour that I could wear when my
nails are short. I just hoped that it isn’t a real UV nail polish, as I don’t
have a special UV nail lamp.
So, let’s start with the packaging. This is a large
rectangular clear glass bottle with a curved top, and with a black cap. The cap
fits very securely. I like the shape of the bottle, the curvature adds an
elegant touch.

Colour: this is a milky light nude shade, between light
creamy and light pink. It’s quite a nice nude shade for us pale skinned people.
The brush is quite good! It’s a flat brush with curved edges
to make it even easier to use. It picks up a ton of polish, way too much for a
single coat, so I had to tap off all the excess every time. The brush is really
easy to use!
The formula is very nice; it’s super creamy and smooth and milky. It also feels pretty gelly. It’s so smooth and easy to use that it makes
painting my nails a child’s play! I really love this formula! One coat was already about 90% opaque, which means that two
coats make it totally opaque. I would’ve stopped at just one coat (it looks so
pretty and milky), but I wanted to have total coverage so I applied two coats. I
have to say that having one coat is more even than when there are two, when
it’s usually the other way around. It ended up looking rather uneven with two
coats despite me being really precise while painting my nails. That’s so weird! The texture is quite glossy.
The durability is actually very good! Despite getting
scratched to hell the day after painting my nails (which isn’t uncommon without
a top coat with polishes that are more gelly), it survived for a couple of days
without any noticeable chipping. It only started chipping on the third day but
it still looked pretty good until I removed it a few days after.
Conclusion: I have mixed feelings about this polish because of its very gelly, thick formula that is so difficult to make even; in
fact, applying two coats somehow makes it look more uneven than it is with just
one coat. It also gets scratched up extremely easily, ruining its otherwise
glossy finish. But, on the other hand, the brush is exceptionally good and
super easy to use, and the durability is excellent, lasting for days without
any major chipping even when I had excessive water exposure to my nails due to my job then. And the colour is just plain nice, such a pretty milky colour perfect for
pale skin! I know that I might have messed up the application by not doing it
while there was still daylight, instead curing my nails under a reptile UV
lamp, but this isn’t supposed to be a ‘true’ UV polish that absolutely requires
a nail UV lamp. I don’t know, I was just really disappointed by how uneven and
goopy it was with two coats. So, despite the excellent durability, I won’t be
recommending this polish.
