Max Factor Masterpiece Xpress Nail Polish [807 - Rain-Check] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 18, 2023

Hello!

Here’s the first item: the Max Factor Masterpiece Xpress Nail Polish, in the shade 807/Rain-Check.

To be completely honest, I never really intended to buy this nail polish, since I don’t usually use gray or light blue nail polishes. However, there was a 2 for the price of 1 promo at DM for Max Factor products, and, due to a mishap, the more expensive product (the Lash & Brow serum) was the one that was free! So, since this was the least expensive Max Factor product DM had at the time, I decided to buy it; who knows, perhaps I will end up liking it in the end! So, let’s see whether it’s any good!

Packaging: a lightweight clear glass bottle, with a black elongated cap. It’s an interesting design, having such a tall cap! The cap closes very tightly, so don’t worry about spilling this polish accidentally! I like the gold reflective text on the front, it looks good against the bluish gray. A very distinct bottle, for sure!

Ingredients: vitamin E for nourishment. Zinc sulfate to help your nails become stronger. Also, diatomaceous earth and red algae (Lithothamnion calcareum) extract, interestingly! The scent is pretty much like any other nail polish. The expiration date is 30 months after opening. Max Factor claim that this nail polish dries in 60 seconds; however, I cannot verify that claim as I always make sure to use nail polish drying drops.

Brush: this is a different kind of brush than what I am used to! It is a wide, but quite small brush; interesting shape! It picks up a huge amount of nail polish and deposits it so evenly and richly! It’s so easy to paint the nails precisely and without too much of it spilling onto the cuticles. I though it would be a bit hard to use given the small size, but it’s actually phenomenal! Quite high quality.

This nail polish is a gorgeous and quite interesting bluish gray, like storm clouds or a rainy day. I don’t usually wear blue nail polishes but this one just looks fantastic on pale skin! And it’s so moody and perfect! I love it way more than I ever thought I would!

The formula is relatively thin and watery. Not at all like the gel nail polishes I am used to using. I don’t really like it all that much, to be honest. I wish it was thicker. That said, it is very easy to use and to get an even coat. It is not too runny, despite being so thin. The formula just feels high-end after it dries, just luxurious and ridiculously comfortable!

One coat is pretty sheer, about 60% opaque; not at all a “one coat” polish like it says on the bottle. Since this formula applies nice and evenly, one coat look nice, though it’s way too sheer to use it like this. Two coats gets you 100% opacity, and then it look so rich and even; it really looks great! The texture is very shiny and looks expensive, really high-end!

Let me tell you, the longevity is excellent! It does not get scratched up easily. And there is no chipping at all until the end of day 3, and that’s with rough nails, since I forgot to buff my nails prior to applying the polish. After that, however, it started chipping off more and more, and it ended up looking fairly bad the next day after a hair wash. Still, the fact that it takes so long to start chipping is excellent! The little bubbles in the polish are the result of my nails not being buffed before applying this polish. There is still a lot of shine at the end of day 4. Also, no matter what I did, it did not chip or get scratched, even if i used my nails to open stuff during the first few days! Despite being rough after 4 days, that’s so much more than what I usually get with nail polishes on my wonky nails; I never expected it to last this long!

This nail polish is extremely easy to remove, requiring barely any rubbing. Although, it seems to me like it does leave a slight stain, despite being such a light colour! The stain seemed to be grayish-yellow.

Overall, I really like this nail polish! I had no expectations, and I didn’t even like the colour all too much at first. But when I saw how pretty this colour is, actually, I started falling in love with it. The brush is different to what I am used to, but it is still excellent and makes it laughably easy to paint your nails evenly. The colour is so moody, just like a rainy day! So perfect! It looks even better on pale skin, much more gray and bleak, I just love it so much! While the formula takes some getting used to if you usually use gel nail polishes such as what Catrice and Essence polishes are usually, as this formula is notably thinner and more watery. Despite that, or perhaps due to that, it is incredibly comfortable to wear. Also, it is quite scratch-resistant and doesn’t start chipping until after a couple of days, which is amazing for my finicky nails! I will admit that a hair wash damaged the polish severely, but that was already day 4 of wearing it, which is just excellent durability, for me personally! I started off thinking that it will be a more-or-less average nail polish that I am not going to like particularly much. Boy was I wrong! I ended up loving it, even feeling sad that it had come time to remove it; the colour, the longevity, the high shine finish, this nail polish really is a masterpiece! I will definitely recommend it!
