Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick [Untouched] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 09, 2023

Next, and last, the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick, shade Untouched.

Not my first Renaissance lipstick; the other one was pretty good (and was also quite a bit lighter than this one), so I hoped this one would be just as good. Just a lot darker!

Packaging: it’s a really gorgeous rose gold case with a matching cap. It’s ribbed on the base of the case and on the cap; I really like that, it makes the lipstick looks so expensive and luxurious! The cap fits very tightly. There is a coloured part on the bottom that matches the colour of the lipstick very well. It’s a gorgeous, glamorous packaging!

Ingredients: coconut oil for nourishment. Propylparaben! The scent is very sweet and aromatic, like a mixture of roses and vanilla. Quite a lovely scent! The expiration date is 12 months after opening.

Colour: this is a very dark and dramatic lipstick. It’s a dark red, bloody, almost like red wine. There are some orange undertones, which gives it a slightly copperish colour, especially when it starts to fade. It’s a very pretty colour, though I do think it would look better on darker skin.

The pigmentation is super intense at first! But, as you are wearing it, the pigmentation tends to start fading, and that can be as soon as like half an hour after applying it. Even with the fading, it is still pretty pigmented, but it is plainly visible that that’s not how pigmented it should be. I love the way it looks fresh, it’s so juicy and rich. The texture is high shine, satin. It’s a very juicy, wet finish. I love it!

But, as time goes on, it turns into a more waxy, velvety finish, which wouldn’t be bad by itself, if it weren’t for the fading and creasing of the lipstick!

The formula is super, super creamy, almost buttery. While that’s great for how comfortable it is (it is extremely comfortable to wear!), it is a problem while applying it. It is so buttery and soft that it is difficult to get a sharp line with it; it’s especially difficult to make a sharply defined cupid's bow just using the bullet. It all tends to smudge and there’s feathering on the edges as soon as you are done applying it. So, you get a more messy, smudged look than a finely lined one.

Of course, if you use a lipstick brush then what I said is moot. This formula isn’t actually heavy, like many other buttery, creamy formulas. It is pretty light for how creamy it is and it’s very comfortable to wear throughout the day; it does become drier as time goes on, but it is still very comfortable.

Longevity is average, I’d say. It starts to fade pretty soon after applying it and there is noticeable feathering on the edges and creasing on my lower lip. And it also doesn’t like food or drinking, as it fades a lot after eating or drinking. You will definitely have to reapply it post-meal and throughout the day. It just really doesn’t look good after 6 hours of wearing it! It’s faded and somewhat smudged, and there’s also the creasing... ugh, not good, I am afraid! At least it did not dry our my lips much, if at all.

This lipstick is super easy to remove, no matter what you use to remove it. It does not leave any stains, either.

In conclusion, this is an alright lipstick. The pigmentation is very good, and it’s easy to get an even, rich layer, but the formula is so creamy and buttery that it's difficult to make sharp lines with it. I would definitely suggest applying a lip liner under this lipstick so that you have sharply defined lips. It also smudges easily; I had a hard time trying to make my lips neatly filled in without any smudging or feathering. I appreciate that it’s rich and creamy, but this is just too much! Especially because it creases on my lower lip. It feels comfortable and buttery on lips, and, while it does become drier after a few hours, it still remains comfortable. However, it starts to fade and crease soon after applying it, like, within an hour. As it fades it becomes more velvety but it also starts to look more patchy and there is significantly feathering, so it just ends up looking slightly sloppy. It’s also not food-proof at all: it fades a lot after eating, especially if the food was greasy. Though, that said, the colour is quite pretty and the packaging is exquisite. Still, it has got far too many flaws for me to recommend it. The fading, the creasing, the difficult to use formula, it’s pretty bad, despite looking gorgeous and juicy and having such a lovely colour.
