Wet n Wild Bloomin’ Blush [1114727 - Flower Power] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - June 02, 2023
First, let’s put on some blush! This is the Wet n Wild
Bloomin’ Blush, shade Flower Power!
Bought only a couple of days after the previous Bloomin’
haul, I only had a few more items in the LE that I was missing. I decided to
just go and buy at least a couple more, hence this blush being reviewed now! I
don’t really use blushes all that often, but I do like a good blush every now
and then! This one seemed promising, even without the goal of completing the
collection. And I had a 30% off coupon, so what better time to buy it than with
such a discount? Let’s check it out already!
Packaging: simple, just a plastic pan that actually closes
tightly. It looks like it doesn’t, but trust me, it can be deceivingly hard to
open. There’s a clear window that lets you see the colour of the blush inside.
I love the pastel pink used in the whole collection, including this blush. It’s
so calming and pretty! But I do question the logic of using white text on such
a colour, it’s barely legible, even under ideal lighting conditions. I mean,
yeah, it is prettier than black text on such a light, gentle colour, but I
think legibility should come first. Besides the text being unreadable, there
isn’t anything else I dislike.
It’s surprisingly sturdy, too! Lest I forget, look at
the beautiful cherry blossom branches! They really add the perfect finishing
touch, making it elegant and perfect for spring!
Ingredients: only Yoshino cherry (Prunus yedoensis) flower
extract for nourishment. No parabens. The scent is very unpleasant. It stinks,
to put it bluntly. It’s got a very bitter, almost like spoiled grease, kind of
scent. I know that it hasn’t gone bad as it has been freshly opened for this
review and its manufacture date is still pretty fresh. To be honest, this isn’t
the first time a Wet n Wild blush has had a very unpleasant smell to it. So
it’s probably what it’s supposed to smell like, even if it literally stinks. At
least you can’t smell it on your skin. The expiration date is 24 months after
opening.
Colour: cherry blossom pink with a lot of peachy tones mixed
in. It’s a very pretty colour, I must admit. It is suitable for pale skin, but
it looks more peachy on us. It would probably look best on light or medium
skintones. This is a good colour for everyday wear, instead of being a boring
reddish pinky blush, it’s this interesting combination of orange and red and
pink tones. Very elegant! Also, perfect for spring, when the cherries are
blooming! Even if said cherries are usually light pink, not peachy pink.
I love
this colour, although I do still prefer pink blushes.
The formula of this blush is very, very finely milled. It’s
so finely milled that it doesn’t swatch well, looking patchy and uneven. However,
it’s not really uneven on cheeks. I didn’t have any problems with it being
patchy or uneven, be it with just one layer, or more. It applies perfectly evenly,
blending into the skin, giving it this natural radiance and like you are
actually blushing. It is very silky and powdery, but there is absolutely no
fall-out. It also stays quite intense even after you blend it out, so it’s not
that easy to overblend it.
This formula is pretty good, but it might be more
suitable for people with normal-to-combo skin, it may be a bit too powdery for
oily skin. Still, a very pleasant and enjoyable formula to use!
The pigmentation of this blush is quite intense! But it is
also totally buildable, so you can choose how intense you want it to be. Unlike
with Essence's Snow Much Love blush, with this one you don’t have to be super
careful with the application. One layer is already pretty pigmented, but not extremely.
It’s, rather, a natural wash of colour. If you want your cheeks to be more
intensely pigmented, you can add a few more layers. It’s not that easy to make
the blush comically intense, for the most part it will look natural yet still
very pigmented. This blush blends easily, at least on my skin, which is oily
and problematic.
I thought that it would be patchy and more difficult to blend
out; instead, it blends so easily and so well that it’s child’s play to make
your cheeks look naturally flush, without any sharp transitions. It’s perfect
to train your blush skill with! I am not the most skilled when it comes to
blushes and even I managed to get my cheeks to look gorgeously flush in only a
few minutes! If it seems like the blush isn’t visible on the photos, it’s
because, for some reason, no matter what camera I use, blushes in general don’t
photograph too well on my skin. Believe me, it is much more intense in person!
The texture is supposed to be very faintly shimmery, if the
appearance of the blush in the pan is to be believed. However, on skin, you
cannot really see the tiny little gold shimmer. To me, this looks pretty matte.
Maybe I'm blind, idk, but it definitely does not look shimmery. It’s actually
quite silky looking, too. It’s only got the smallest amount of muted sheen,
which makes it look totally natural! I actually love this finish! I think I
love it more than if it were shimmery. Wait, it seems that the subtle shimmer
is only visible up close, under intense light. In normal circumstances you probably
won’t notice it, though. This is just so natural yet gently radiant, a gorgeous
finish!
It also doesn’t enlarge pores or make my skin look cakey; in fact, it’s
the opposite, my skin looks silky with this blush!
I love how practically invisible this blush is to wear! It’s
so lightweight that you cannot feel it at all, even if you packed a couple of
layers on! It’s super comfortable and doesn’t cause any irritations on my
sensitive skin. Very nice!
Longevity is alright. Do note that my oily skin tends to
ruin most powder products. After 7 hours it is still vibrant and intense, so it
keeps its colour and intensity for a very long time! However, it has become
patchy and uneven. And there’s a fair amount of sebum breaking through the
blush. The patchiness is the biggest problem, because it’s pretty bad. It’s
visibly deteriorated; somehow it still manages to look good, though, despite
all the patchiness . For my skin this is incredible! I thought it would be
totally uneven and patchy, like there would be a big patch where there’s barely any
blush. But whatever has happened to my skin in the past 6 months, it seems to
have made face makeup much more durable. I am not blown away by the durability,
but it is definitely not the worst one.
Removal is extremely easy. It just comes off without any
hassle, no matter what you use to remove it. Although, the fine shimmer might
be a bit of problem if you remove the blush with micellar water or remover
wipes. It might explode everywhere. That doesn’t happen if you use a wash gel,
so I highly recommend switching to a gel/cream/liquid remover.
In conclusion, honestly, it’s much better than I thought it
would be! The last Wet n Wild blush I used was a total disappointment, with pale
pigmentation and patchiness and poor longevity. This one is such an
improvement! Not only is it very pigmented, it is also super easy to apply evenly,
without any darker patches, and it blends perfectly! It is insanely easy to get
naturally flush cheeks with this blush, even if you aren’t a blush pro! It
blends into the skin so magnificently that you wouldn’t even say that it’s a
makeup blush! You would think it’s a natural blushing reaction! The colour is a
nice change for me, it’s a rosy pink with plenty of peach tones in it. Such an
elegant colour! And it fits most skintones. It even looks good on pale skins
like me! The shimmer, while it is there, is only visible if you get within like
a few cm of it, which isn’t going to happen often. So it ends up looking matte.
Which is great, because that super fine shimmer adds depth to the blush, making
it look even more natural and not one bit cakey or dry! Indeed, it looks soft
and silky. Unfortunately, it is not terribly durable; it starts to fade a bit,
and it becomes patchy after a few hours. 7 hours in, it is still in good
condition, but it is visible that it has gotten worse over time. It’s not the
worst, but it could certainly be better, even on skin as problematic as mine! Oh,
and the thing I dislike the most is the fact that is simply smells! Like, it
stinks! I don’t know why Wet n Wild blushes tend to smell bad, but this one
continues that tradition. It’s not spoiled, I know that for certain. It just is
like that! So, way better than I ever thought it would be! A surprise, and a
very positive one, at that! So I won’t hesitate to recommend this blush! It’s
is really good!
Rating: 7.5/10
Would buy gain? Probably YES (if it wasn’t an LE item...)
