One more item from the Bloomin’ LE! This is the Wet
n Wild Bloomin’ Makeup Sponge!
Bloomin’ was such a lovely LE! Perfect for spring with the
pink and peach colours, and themed with cherry blossoms! I knew I had to get a
few items! At the time I bought it, I didn’t use makeup sponges yet, so I
mostly bought it for its looks. The embossed flower petals are such a gorgeous
detail! I thought that it would make a fine deco piece if I end up not using
it! So now that I have grown used to using makeup sponges let’s see how good it
is!
Packaging: it came in a plastic clamshell type of packaging.
That keeps it safe and clean inside, but it can be a nuisance to open. The
plastic case was bloomin’ too! Look at all the cherry blossoms all over! So
beautiful! The sponge was kept safe inside it so that it does not bounce
around. It would be boring, ordinary packaging were it not for the floral
accents! Just be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp plastic!
The sponge itself is peach coloured. It’s average sized, and
has one flat side to make it more versatile. I love these types of sponges more
than true egg sponges, ones that don’t have a flat side. This makes it easier
to use, especially on larger flat areas, such as the hollows of cheeks. I like
the precisely pointed tip! I am just dancing around it at this point, trying
not to draw attention to the most gorgeous detail: the embossed cherry blossoms! Truly a makeup sponge for spring! The sponge is large enough for me,
making it easy to blend out products on my cheeks or forehead, but it’s equally
easy in tight areas such as the inner eye, thanks to the tiny tip. This sponge
is textured, and you can see the texture, but it is a very fine, smooth
texture, making it super soft on the skin!
It also feels kind of rubbery when I touch it, in addition
to being soft. It becomes quite a bit softer when wet.
Even though it is super soft, it is also quite firm and
bouncy. It can feel a bit hard on the skin, especially the longer you are
blending out products. I can look at that from a different perspective: think
of it as a nice massage! The flat side is the softest. Supposedly, this sponge
was made from a unique hydrophilic material to ensure less product waste. I
would be inclined to believe that; most of the product ends up on my skin, not
inside the sponge! This material is actually great, and makes my makeup look
better than it has any right to be!
Wet n Wild claim that this sponge is the holy grail,
flawlessly applying makeup for a professional-looking finish. Whether it’s
truly professional-looking of course depends on your skills with makeup
sponges. But it does give better results than most other sponges, even with
stubborn, difficult-to-work-with products! It definitely provides a streak-free
application, I never once saw any streaks or uneven patches for as long as I’ve
been using it! Now, pilling? That’s on the foundation, I have experimented and
concluded with certainty that it’s not due to this sponge. This sponge blends
with absolute ease, and in no time at all! Even if I am in a hurry, I can make
products look flawlessly blended out. Even though the sponge can be used either
dry or wet, I prefer using it wet. It just doesn’t blend too well when it’s dry.
However, it tends to dry rather fast, so it won’t stay totally wet for too
long. It will mostly be moist, which is alright, but with such a bouncy
material I’d really like it to be more wet than dry. This sponge is definitely
among the easiest and most beginner-friendly ones out of all that I have used
so far. It’s so lovely to use! Even when foundation starts to pill it’s no big
deal because you know this fun little sponge is going to blend it all out!
In terms of durability, it seems to be very high quality, as
it isn’t showing even a trace of damage due to being used. No scratches, no
nicked areas, and it is just as bouncy as the first day. Its shape is exactly
the same, too.
I must say that this sponge is much easier to wash compared
to the others. I don’t know if it’s the hydrophilic material, or if it’s due to
the finely textured surface, but it just takes way less time to wash it
completely. Even when I forget to wash it on the same day I used it, it’s not
hard to remove the already set stains. I like to use antibacterial hand soap to
clean my makeup sponges. It usually takes quite some time to rinse it out of
the sponge, but with this one it doesn’t! No matter how much soap I use to
remove the stains that are the deepest, I know I will be able to rinse it out
in mere minutes! And then I put my sponge to air dry, which, obviously, takes a
long time. Whatever Wet n Wild have done with this sponge, they have struck
gold!
Indeed, this sponge is simply brilliant! Everything about it
is great, from the shape, to the attention to detail, to the material which is
so cosy and fun to use, to how it doesn’t absorb too much product, to how easy
it is to wash... etc, I could go on and on! I do prefer sponges that are a
smidge softer, but this firm, yet still soft and bouncy material is still quite
pleasant to use. It blends out pigments really well, although, like most
sponges, you will have less coverage than with a brush. I don’t mind that most
days, and anyways, this sponge gives you such a natural look! As long as you
bounce it against the skin instead of dragging it, of course! While it can be
used dry, I highly suggest you use it wet instead. It works much, much better
this way; it blends better, causes less pilling in products that tend to pill,
and the finished result is simply much better. It’s also very sturdy and
durable, I have been using it for more than a month now and it’s still showing
no signs of actually being used. I am sure that it would survive 3 months of
everyday use no problem! Just don’t use it for much longer than that, sponges
are a breeding ground for bacteria for a whole host of reasons! This champ of a sponge deserves all the praise Wet n Wild give it! Now, I don’t know personally
whether the ‘standard’ Wet n Wild makeup sponge is like this, but if it is...
oh I know what I will be buying next! In any case, this sponge was well-worth
the money, and it is also gorgeous, so you can display it proudly! Another
fantastic piece from the lovely Bloomin’ collection! I will definitely
recommend it!
