Wet n Wild Bloomin’ Plumping Lip Gloss [1114730E - Bloom Time] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - June 02, 2023
We've already seen one Bloomin’ Plumping Lip Gloss, how about we now
check out the only other shade? This is the Wet n Wild Bloomin’ Plumping Lip Gloss, shade
Bloom Time!
Another product in the very lovely Bloomin’ LE that Wet n
Wild had! I, initially, couldn’t decide which of the two shades to buy (both
are so pretty!), so, after buying the pink one I kept thinking about this one,
too. Naturally, a few days later, I went back to BIPA and bought it! This one
was, therefore, bought after the lovely baby pink Baby Bloomer; it seems that I
had not yet learned that this is a classic plumping lip gloss, with chili and
menthol. I figured it out after buying this one, and then immediately
regretting buying both shades. At least I had a 30% off coupon! I usually
research the stuff I buy, but I somehow didn’t that time. So now I have not
one, but two menthol/chili plumping lip glosses! Which my lips usually hate!
Yay! Well, could it be that bad? Let’s see how good it is, especially compared
to Baby Bloomer!
Packaging: just a clear plastic tube. The design of the tube
is so spring-y and beautiful and soothing! The soft pale pink of the cap
accentuates the colour of the lip gloss inside. The cap closes very tightly.
Unlike Baby Bloomer, this shade doesn’t have that odd rattling inside the cap.
I still wonder what that is. The final touch is the beautiful cherry blossom
branch that runs the length of the tube. It’s so lovely! The white text is
fine, but it is much harder to read than on Baby Bloomer. I mean, it’s white
text on lip gloss that is mostly light beige/silverish. Still, a very inspired
design; I love it!
Ingredients: soy (Glycine soja) oil, vitamin E, Aloe
barbadensis leaf extract, Yoshino cherry (Prunus yedoensis) flower extract,
peptides (Palmitoyl oligopeptide) for nourishment. No parabens. Among the
ingredients, a few stand out: methyl nicotinate (ester of niacin and menthol),
Tabasco chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens) fruit extract, ginger (Zingiber
officinale) root oil, peppermint (Mentha piperita) oil. These are all, in a
nutshell, irritants; that is, they all cause inflammation in the tissue of the
lips. If you ever wondered how plumping lip glosses tend to work, here it is:
they use ingredients which are known to cause swelling and irritation and
redness, which, when applied to lips, makes them look fuller. In reality, they
are inflamed, which, if you use such plumping lip glosses often enough, can
lead to permanent damage (dry lips, anyone?). The chili, ginger and peppermint
are irritating enough, but they had to go an extra mile and add menthyl
nicotinate (spelled methyl here). That substance is a known rubefascient, or in
plain English, it specifically causes redness to develop. Although, methyl
nicotinate has shown to have some regenerative qualities, so it seems that it
is actually not the worst of the bunch. All these irritants cause chemical
burns inside the lips, which is exactly why I hate plumping lip glosses with a
passion. Well, this type of them, at least. I already have sensitive lips that
are so prone to flaking and becoming chapped, I don’t need the extra ‘help’
from these types of lip glosses! Ahh... let’s move on. The scent is
ridiculously good! It is intense, yes, but it also smells exactly like fresh
cherry blossoms! It’s incredibly fragrant! And it’s not at all artificial!
Sometimes I open the tube just to smell the cherry blossoms, it’s that
pleasant! This is, honestly, the best kind of smell they could’ve picked for a
limited edition based on cherries. Although it could definitely be too intense,
for me it is perfect. BTW, it tastes like it smells! So when it gets into your
mouth you have this wonderfully aromatic cherry flavour! The expiration date is
24 months after opening.
This is, for all intents and purposes, a clear lip gloss.
It’s clear with a ton of multicoloured shimmer thrown in (mostly pink and
green). The shimmer is very fine, although I can feel it on my lips. It’s not
sharp or uncomfortable, though. And it doesn’t look cheap. It would be great as
a lip topper, I reckon! I am not saying it’s bad that it doesn’t have intense
pigmentation, I actually really like it like this! It’s so versatile, as it can
be combined with any other colour. I love how it makes my lips themselves but better!
It’s a great effect! The shimmer helps so much with this effect! Side note:
this lip gloss looks so different in the tube. There, it’s silvery/beige-ish
with shimmer that is mostly pink and green. Interesting how it is mostly green.
That’s not even remotely similar to what it looks like on the lips.
The formula is amazingly comfortable! It’s quite gelly and
even creamy, exactly the same formula as Baby Bloomer. It’s not greasy, per se,
but it does feel oily at times, but like nourishing oil. It’s not tacky when
it’s freshly applied, but that changes with time. I love how it still manages
to be quite lightweight, despite being such a luxuriously creamy formula! It’s
dreamy, to be honest!
But there’s also things that are decidedly not dreamy. The
way it feels when you apply it, for starters! For a few minutes after applying
the lip gloss I am feeling this obnoxious, borderline painful sensation.
Sometimes it literally feels like my lips are burning. It’s not uncommon for
the skin surrounding my lips to become visibly red and inflamed, too. I have
had times where it literally felt painful! Sometimes I don’t get such a severe
reaction, I really don’t know what causes either. Maybe if my lips are damaged
even in the slightest, that’s when it burns like hell? Anyways, if you keep
using these types of lip glosses long enough, you will learn to ignore the
burning. It’s still there, but you just mentally block it. Even with that, it’s
still a horrible feeling, and one I do not enjoy the slightest! At least I can
take comfort in knowing that the burning will be gone in 10 minutes.
My lips do look plumper with this lip gloss, but don’t
expect anything resembling fillers or implants. Most of the plumping effect is
concentrated in the upper lip, which definitely looks bigger and plumper! My
lower lip also looks softer and plumper, but less so than the upper lip. Just
try not to get this lip gloss anywhere besides the lips themselves! Any skin
that comes into contact with the lip gloss will start to burn and turn bright
red! You have been warned!
The luxe creamy formula means that this lip gloss is super
easy to apply! It glides across lips with absolutely no tugging, coating them
in an even, rich coat of shimmer and gloss! That’s all due to the excellent
applicator, which I will discuss in a moment. This lip gloss doesn’t set, but
it does change after an hour, so it is clearly becoming drier with time.
This lip gloss makes my lips look so juicy and plumpy, I
love it! The texture is very glossy, almost gelly, but also quite shimmery! The
shimmer is not very visible from afar. You have to get close to really see how
it sparkles beautifully! It’s gorgeous, although I do prefer the slight pink
colour that Baby Bloomer offers.
Lip glosses aren’t usually known for being very
long-lasting. That is true here, too. As far as lip glosses go, this one has
pretty good longevity, but in general it is still quite poor. It feels like it
has partially disappeared by hour 2, and it is definitely 99% gone by hour 5. So
if you want to have it the whole day, you’d have to keep reapplying it and
dealing with the burning again and again! I’d prefer not to, thank u. Also, the
longer you wear it, the more gelly and creamy it becomes. It becomes slightly
tacky, too. And a bit heavier. It’s not uncomfortable, but it is definitely
different. I actually like it more this way than how it feels when it is
freshly applied. Oh, the plumping effect doesn’t last a very long time, I am
afraid. My lips return to, more-or-less, how they usually are within an hour.
I
definitely don’t see any plumpness after more than an hour. I don’t mind it, as
the glossy, shimmery finish remains, so your lips stay fab through the day,
even if they aren’t plumpy.
What I am about to say isn’t at all surprising: this lip
gloss does not tolerate eating or drinking. The vast majority of lip glosses
don’t, so I feel neutral about this. I am neither disappointed nor happy about
it. If you drink or eat at all you will have to reapply the lip gloss.
So, given the poor longevity, there’s a high chance that
there won’t be any lip gloss left by the time you decide to remove all your
makeup. That is, if you didn’t reapply it throughout the day. In any case, it
is extremely easy to remove. It doesn’t leave any stains or a greasy residue,
and all you need is micellar water. Of course, it’s even better to remove it
with specialised removers. However, despite being so easy to remove, this shade
in particular has a ton of shimmer. Like, really, a lot! And it’s big enough to
be felt on the lips. So when you decide to remove the lip gloss all that
shimmer will go flying off in all sorts of places.
That’s exactly why I am
suggesting using a wash gel or something. To try and minimise how badly the
shimmer explodes. It is much worse than Baby Bloomer, but this shade has much
more, and much bigger, shimmer, so this was bound to happen. In terms of how my lips
feel after a day of wearing this lip gloss, I can say it isn’t drying...
technically. While my lips don’t feel dried out, they do routinely develop
flaky, damaged parts that require some real TLC to fix. It can take my lips up
to a few days to fully recover form this type of plumping lip glosses. So, be
careful using these types of glosses if you have sensitive lips like I do.
As I promised earlier, let’s talk about the applicator! This
is a flat applicator that is medium sized, I’d say. But, god, it is sooo soft!
Like, it feels like plushies! And it picks up a generous amount of lip gloss,
enough to coat both the upper and lower lip in one go. Of course, you can dip
it back in and go for more coats, if you want. The way it deposits the gloss,
so evenly and richly, and how precise it is due to its flat shape, makes it so
fun and pleasant to use! It’s a fantastic applicator!
All in all, I actually like this lip gloss quite a lot. I
never thought I would say that I like a chili plumping lip gloss, but here we
are! I love how sparkly (but not gaudy!) And glossy and plump my lips look with
this gloss! It’s amazing! The fine shimmer really makes it look
multi-dimensional! I also love how creamy and luxurious the formula is, not at
all tacky or heavy or in any way uncomfortable to wear. It’s more like a
luxurious lip balm! The applicator is awesome, too! For some reason, I love
that I can feel the shimmer on my lips; I am digging how tactile it is! I don’t
know, I just love it, I think it’s fun. The plumping effect is not very
impressive, however, and it tends to disappear within an hour or so. So if you
want your lips to constantly be plumpy you’d have to keep reapplying the lip
gloss. It’s also not very long-lasting or food-resistant, but then again, few
lip glosses are, in my experience. The main reason why I am giving a poor score
to this lip gloss, no matter how much I actually like it and how it looks on my
lips, is because my lips always become horribly flaky and chapped and just
damaged from these types of lip glosses. They are sensitive by nature, so
chili, ginger, peppermint, etc, are on the ban list. Wish I had known that this
lip gloss had those ingredients before I bought it! Because I didn’t, now I
have two lip glosses which cause real damage to my lips with the way they
function. I kinda regret buying it, but it is gorgeous by itself. Although,
Baby Bloomer is definitely the prettier of the two shades. In all other
regards, they are literally identical. I don’t know how much I will be using
this lip gloss, but every time I do, I am blown away by how lovely it looks.
Still, the fact that it causes lasting damage to my lips prevents me from
loving it truly. So it won’t get a recommendation from me, at least in most
cases. There is a caveat, though; if you are used to using plumping lip glosses
and don’t mind the burning, then I highly recommend it, I am sure you’d enjoy
this lip gloss.
Rating: 6/10
Would buy again? NO (my lips would hate me forever if I
bought something like this again)
