Clueless X Makeup Revolution Fluffy Liquid Eyeliner Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - June 07, 2023

Hey!

Let’s start this off with a classic – a black eyeliner! This is the Clueless X Makeup Revolution Fluffy Liquid Eyeliner!

So, I don’t really use liquid eyeliners too often, because I am still not very skilled with them, at least I don’t think so! But, this eyeliner is something I couldn’t pass up! Clueless is a film that has influenced the way I dress, and the way I think about fashion and makeup. And one thing that every woman should have (along with an LBD, of course) is a classic black eyeliner. It’s one of the easiest ways to be chic or cool or elegant or... well, pretty much whatever you want to be! It’s only a matter of learning how to use them, which was the reason why I didn’t have many, because I was scared I would ruin it with my lack of skill. But maybe, if I hone my skills, I can be a Betty, too! With a sexy cat eye! So, let’s see what it’s like!

Packaging: just look at the yellow plaid pattern! Totally Cher Horowitz! It’s just like her famous yellow plaid outfit! Although the plastic pouch feels kinda cheap, the liner is kept secure by a pair of metal bands. So that it is nicely safe and secure! The attention to detail with the whole colour scheme and the pattern, I love it! The black liner in the centre really pops with all the yellow surrounding it! I might prefer a more secure type of packaging, like maybe clamshell? But it’s nit-picking, as I really don’t mind this one at all. It’s just too fab!

The liner is jet black, just like it really is. The only detailing is the Clueless logo, which is black & white. So the entire liner is monochrome. It only makes it even more sleek. The cap fits very securely, closing with a click, so that you know that it’s closed properly. This is especially important for liquid eyeliners, so that they don’t dry out too soon. Buy the best and most fabulous part of it is definitely the big fluffy pom-pom! It’s super soft and fluffy and just wayyyy too good!

It also doesn’t have a lot of fluff falling out. Just a little bit. I love to tickle my nose with the pom-pom while using it. It’s so fun! I love the design, I just know that it would’ve been the coolest thing back in high school!

Ingredients: nothing nourishing but also no parabens. The scent is very faintly plasticy or synthetic. I expected it to smell like this. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening, but I wouldn’t really advise using for a longer time anyways,. Anything that goes in or very near the waterline shouldn’t be used for more than a couple of months, unless you want to risk stye or an even worse infection.

This is a standard black eyeliner. It is pretty much jet black, or if it isn’t truly as black as possible, it is damn close to it. It’s really intense!

Which brings me to the pigmentation; holy cow is it intensely black! One layer is really enough to have a dramatic black eyeliner. I also wouldn’t advise applying more layers after the previous one has already started to dry, for some very important reasons; I’ll get to that in a minute. The texture is matte although sebum can break through it throughout the day if you have oily eyelids. This is why I prefer to always use primer, as my eyelids are naturally quite oily. It dries within 20 seconds, I’d say, and then it stays pretty much in place.

After it dries, it becomes invisible on the skin; like, I cannot feel it at all, even on the crease! It only feels a bit tight on the skin if you apply a really heavy, thick layer that goes across the crease. But even then it is surprisingly comfortable! This is definitely the most comfortable liquid eyeliner that I have used, so far! Oh, and it doesn’t irritate the eyes, even if it gets inside them! My eyes are very sensitive, but they showed absolutely no reaction to the eyeliner when it accidentally got inside while tightlining.

I just blinked a few times to wash it off and my eyes didn’t get red or itchy or anything! So it is indeed suitable for sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers! Just, don't use it too much in the waterline area I did, and it ended up damaging the eyeliner to the point of it almost being unusable! Fortunately, I was able to save it! Phew!

This is a thin brush type of eyeliner. This type is extremely user-friendly and beginner-friendly, as it is typically very precise and easy to use. Indeed, that’s true when it comes to this eyeliner! The tip is really soft, but also firm enough for it not to bend while using it. It’s got some flexibility still, although not a whole lot. I prefer that, it can be annoying to use eyeliners whose felt tips are too bendy. It’s also problematic if they are too rigid and hard. Fortunately, this tip is just right! You only really notice that it isn’t a felt tip if you look really closely. It is actually a meticulously crafted dense but thin brush. It is long and very thin, coming to a extremely sharp end. This means that it can draw extremely sharp, thin lines easily. Or you can turn it sideways and draw thick lines.

And because it’s a brush tip, and not a felt tip, it is less likely to get clogged. So it should last longer. The tip feels really soft even if you press harder with it, which also means that it doesn’t tug at the skin at all, which is super important for a liquid liner. And best of all: it deposits pigment almost perfectly! You immediately get a rich, thick, and freakishly intense layer!

And since it doesn’t skip across the skin, you will get sharply defined flicks every time! I had to fix a microscopic mistake that I had made, and I felt so hesitant about it because I thought I would mess it it up completely. I was actually able to fix that one miniature mistake with no problems thanks to how perfectly this already amazing brush tip deposits pigment! It’s fantastic, it really is!

The formula is totally liquid, like ink. However, it is not runny, which makes it super easy to use!  Especially since it dries fast. It doesn’t even feel tacky and it doesn’t end up spilling across the crease when it’s still drying! It’s literally like using a marker pen, it’s such a great formula! Although, since it is so pigmented and so easy to apply, you have to be careful how you draw your wings as even the slightest touch gives you intensely black pigmentation.

Hmm, this eyeliner is quite long-lasting, however, on oily eyelids it tends to start transferring onto the skin after a few hours. I suggest using eyeshadow primer. It did not smudge anywhere else, just exactly where it goes across the eye crease. It also does not crack over time, at least no more than it does initially. As long as you don’t touch it, it will stay in great shape. Be warned, though, that it does smudge rather easily when you touch it (I went over it lightly, with only a small amount of pressure, and it started smudging), which also means that it isn’t waterproof. Or tear-proof! This isn’t the best choice of eyeliner if you are going to watch a sad film! Now, it does not run down the face all dramatic like in films, but it does start to crumble, and then collects on the lower eyelid

It is definitely not waterproof at all, as it started crumbling in the shower. It’s far from being the worst eyeliner in terms of longevity, but it’s also not extremely good, either. Mainly because it is not waterproof at all, creating problems for us with oily eyelids.

Thankfully, it is extremely easy to remove using specialised cleansers. I used a gentle wash gel and it only took a minute or two, tops, to completely remove the liner. I also didn’t need to rub a lot, as it starts to crumble and melt as soon as a makeup cleanser touches it. I also tried to remove it with micellar water, and it is only slightly more difficult to remove. Again, it comes off without a lot of rubbing. This is excellent news if you have sensitive eyes! It also doesn’t leave any stains or anything else.

All in all, I like this eyeliner. I think it’s perfectly usable, but it’s not as fantastic as I was hoping it would be. Mainly because it starts to smudge a lil' bit after a few hours and it doesn’t handle moisture all that well. I know that my eyelids are really oily, but I expected a liquid eyeliner to be able to handle that. Like, liquid eyeliners should be one of the most durable makeup products. This one starts to smudge on my eye crease after a few hours and I have to be really careful about any kind of sweat or tears, because it will lead to the eyeliner cracking. So I guess that vigorous exercise with this eyeliner is a no-go. It’s also really easy to smudge just by touching it. This smudging means it is not too suitable for anyone who has oily eyelids. A primer seems to be necessary for oily skin to keep the eyeliner from smudging (or simply, any eyeshadow). Too bad that it’s like this. But, fortunately, no matter how major that problem is, it is the only one. Everything else is awesome! The pigmentation is deep and intensely black, the brush tip is hella precise and easy to use (even for eyeliner beginners), and the formula is absolutely divine! It also dries quickly and doesn’t usually transfer to the lower eyelid. The tip deposits a perfectly even, thick layer, so drawing a cat eye is as easy as drawing with a marker pen on paper! And it is probably the most adorable eyeliner you will find! The pom-pom! It’s sooo adorable and totally fun to tickle with! I like to tickle my nose with it, but, because it actually super soft and fluffy, it does not make me sneeze, it’s just a relaxing, pleasant feeling! It’s exactly the kind of eyeliner I would have like to have back on high school (in a hypothetical scenario where I am using makeup during my high school years)! I really don’t want to give it a very bad rating because it is, at its core, a really good eyeliner. For all I know, the smudging might not be a problem for drier skin types! But I do have to take it into account, which will force me to deduct a few points. But don’t get me wrong – I love to use it and I enjoy using it! So I will recommend it, it’s too cute not to!

Rating: 7/10

Would buy again? Probably YES (despite the problems with longevity)
