So, after the Star Lux highlighter/glitter duo, how about we
take a look at something made specially for it? This is the Wet n Wild Star Lux
Starlighter Brush!
So, among all the products that were part of the Star Lux
LE, I knew for sure that I wanted the brush. Not only is it beautiful all on
its own, but it was made to be used with the Star Lux Glitter Highlighter Duo,
and wouldn’t you know it, I have one! Of course you don’t have to use it
exclusively with this highlighter! The brush was irresistible, especially with
the 30% off promo BIPA had! Originally, it was bought at the same time as the
eyeshadow quad, only later did I buy the highlighter duo. So, is this metallic,
starry brush as good as I have hyped it up to be in my head? Or is it going to
let me down? And how good is it with the Star Lux highlighter? Let’s see!
Packaging: it came in a clear plastic case with clamshell
packaging. You know how annoying and legit dangerous clamshell type packaging
is to open; or rather, how easy it is to cut yourself on it. At least you know
for sure that it’s not been tampered with and that it’s been kept in hygienic
conditions. One detail that I absolutely love is the adorable stars and comets
and the Moon! Look at them! So adorable! Especially the crescent Moon, hi little
moon! Oh, and there’s the Big Dipper/Ursa Major! Perfectly astronomical design
for a star-inspired collection! And the rose brown cardboard insert matches the
colour of the rest of the collection, like the caps of the lip glosses, for
example. Just a very cute design, if quite simple.
The brush itself is beautiful! It’s got a metallic handle
that is perfectly thin and elegant, I really love how slim it is! The ferrule
is equally elegant and slim. The brush head is actually rather large in
comparison to the handle and ferrule. The entire brush has a gorgeous ombre design;
a gradient that goes from pure silver at the ferrule, to a coppery red at the
end of the handle. Just like a meteor when it enters atmosphere and starts
burning up! Or like a comet! The ferrule is the rock, while the copper handle
is the coma of the comet. Amazing attention to detail! The hairs also have a
gradient, but this time in reverse: going from silvery gray at the base to a
soft rosé at the tips. This kind of book-ends the brush, as it has copper on
both ends! On the handle you will find an indentation meant to improve the
ergonomics of the brush. This indentation is where you’d naturally position
your finger (thumb, usually) while using the brush. It’s a small detail, but it
actually does help make it easier to use. Truly curated with attention to every
detail!
The hairs are beautiful and long. They look high quality and
almost like natural hair, since they aren’t at all shiny. They are very soft,
too! So gentle! Although they can be a bit prickly if you tap with the brush. The
hairs are cut more or less evenly, with only a couple of stray longer hairs. Although
highlighter brushes tend to have a slightly different shape, the shape of this
brush is just as ideal for highlighters, as you’ll see in a moment.
This brush picks up such a huge amount of highlighter, it’s
amazing! It’s way more than you realistically need, although I like to go full
max with highlighters so I don’t mind it. It then deposits the pigment extremely
evenly and richly, so that you have perfect highlighting every time! Truly,
it’s never been easier to highlight my cheekbones and cupid’s bow, and what’s
even better is that this brush is excellent at blending the highlighter out.
So
even though there’s a huge amount of it, you can easily blend it out so that it
isn’t too garish and in-your-face. You can blend it out precisely, depending on
what kind of look you are going for. Whether you want to blend it out just a
tiny bit or blend it out so much that there is only a hint of highlighter left,
both are equally easy to accomplish with this brush. And thanks to the super
soft hairs, it all feels comfortable and fun. I love how quickly I can be done
highlighting when I am using this brush, it’s literally seconds to get perfectly
results! Now, this brush was made specifically for the Star Lux Highlighter Duo. Although it cannot really pick up the glitter half of the duo (it’s
definitely meant to be used with fingers), it excels at applying the
highlighter half. In fact, it spreads the pigment out so nicely and feathery
that I can use it as blush!
Of course, a dedicated blush brush would achieve
better results, but this small brush does wonders! I feel like no other brush
would apply the highlighter duo quite as well as this one. Such a joy, this
brush is!
This brush is extremely easy to wash as it doesn’t absorb
any shampoo. It only takes a very short time to wash it completely, until it’s
sparkling clean! It also dries rather fast.
In conclusion, this is a flippin’ fantastic, magnificent
even, highlighter brush! Not only is it stunning to look at (check out the
gradient, and the silvery hairs, oooh), it is also very well-made, with no
problems whatsoever in terms of build quality. No fraying, no hairs falling out,
nothing. And this high quality is reflected in the way it applies powders; it
picks up an enormous amount of highlighter and applies it evenly and richly,
exactly where you want it. It’s small enough to be precise enough to be used on
the nose tip, cupid’s bow, inner eye corner... etc, but it is, at the same
time, large enough to be used on the cheekbones or browbones. Perfect size, I’d
say! Its shape is ideal for highlighters, spreading them out so that there
isn’t a noticeable edge. That, of course, also means that it blends like a
champion! Like, it’s so good to use that I only need like 15 seconds or so to
finish highlighting my face! Which is much less than I usually need. I am truly
in love with this brush! Nothing about it is bad! It’s just a real shame that
it is part of a limited edition, I would love to have at least one more! I will
cherish the one I have! Seriously, it’s waaaay better than it has any right to
be! I highly recommend it, if you manage to find it somewhere.
