Organic Shop Organic Coffee and Sugar Body Scrub Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - May 17, 2023
The second review, and the last one for today is the Organic
Shop Organic Coffee and Sugar Body Scrub (or Brazilian Coffee Body Scrub).
I found out that I actually really need to use body scrubs prior to
shaving, so I started looking into various body scrubs. I happened to find this
scrub at DM, and just had to buy it, I mean, it’s Brazilian coffee scented! Come
on, that has got to be amazing!
Packaging: a large clear plastic tub with a black lid. The
lid closes very securely, and you know that because it clicks when it’s closed
properly. Besides that, there isn’t much else to talk about; you just have the
stickers with information regarding the body scrub. I do like the coffee beans
on the lid, though! It’s a pretty minimalistic design. Also, the plastic is
floppy, which is always fun!
NB: the packaging and formula have been changed recently (supposedly "improved"), but it seems to be the same as when I originally wrote this review
Ingredients: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter,
coffee (Coffea arabica) seed oil for nourishment. No parabens. The coffee has
been sourced from organic agriculture; whether it’s really Brazilian coffee is
anybody’s guess. Sugar is what’s used as a scrubbing agent. The coffee oil can
definitely be felt both while using the scrub and afterwards as it leaves skin
so smooth, soft, and wonderful!
The scent is so divine! It is a fairly intense
scent; it is aromatic and slightly bitter, and smells exactly like coffee! Or
exactly like what Brazilian coffee would smell like, I imagine! I love it when
products smell like coffee, even though I don’t drink coffee, myself (caffeine
affects me too much and makes me unable to sleep no matter when I drink
coffee). Such a perfect scent! The expiration date is 12 months after opening.
A little goes a long way with this scrub, and this single tub is enough for at
least 8-9 uses, at least for me personally. So it’s really a great deal,
especially as it doesn’t cost too much!
Colour: this body scrub has a dark brown, slightly grayish
dark brown colour, just like ground coffee beans. The lighting makes it look much more orange; trust me, it is much more gray in person! You can see the sugar
crystals inside when you look at it, the tiny little darker brown flecks. The
scrub looks wet and like it’s got an oily film over it in the tub. As you use
it, it changes colour from this dark brown to a more coffee foam like grayish
beige. So not only does it smell like coffee, it also looks like coffee
mousse!
The formula is quite interesting! At first it is thick and gooey and smooth, with an almost putty-like consistency. It’s so thick and
mousse-like that it has a tendency to fall off your skin! In large pieces that
look... hmm, kind of like poo! It’s really kind of nasty to see it floating in
the water, haha! But when you press down and try to spread it, it spreads like
a charm! The formula becomes more creamy, soft, but also quite greasy; it’s a
very pleasant formula to use! I love how quirky and interesting it is; I’ve
never had a body scrub with this type of formula. And it’s just fun to use!
Also, I love how it settles back into a perfectly level position in the tub
after a short while, no bumps or ridges.
This body scrub uses sugar particles to give you an
effective scrub. The sugar particles are quite large and a bit sharp, but they
are not at all uncomfortably sharp. It offers a great scrub; you can literally feel
the sugar removing all dead skin cells.
After rinsing it off, and it’s really easy to rinse off, the
skin is left feeling soft and supple, a perfect base for shaving. Indeed, I
mostly use this scrub to prep my skin for shaving and I get such good results after
using this scrub: my skin seems like it is shaved better, and it is definitely
smoother and less irritated. I now no longer have itchy skin post-shaving, it
is just calm and smooth! And even if I don’t shave after using this scrub, my
skin still feels supple and just plain great! Not one bit dried out, either! The
scent does evaporate after you rinse off the scrub, regrettably.
Conclusion: this is a bloody fantastic body scrub! In
addition to being made from organic ingredients, the scent is just divine,
smelling aromatic and just like coffee! Mmm, so delicious! The formula is so interesting:
at first it is smooth and like putty, and you can literally pinch it and grab a
piece, but as you start spreading it on skin it becomes creamy, greasy, and the
sugar becomes so noticeable! The sugar is fairly abrasive, but not
uncomfortable, it’s just a really thorough cleanse! When you rinse off the
scrub the skin feels soft and smooth, free from dead skin cells (it’s also the
perfect base for shaving!). Even after shaving, my skin still feels soft and
not at all dried out like it usually was. The combination of the perfect scent,
fun and curious formula, and incredible results make it a really fantastic
product! Totally recommend it!
