Balea Soft & Creamy Handcreme Pinguin Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - May 11, 2023

Soo adorable! 🤗 This is the Balea Soft & Creamy Handcreme Pinguin.

Look, there was no chance I wouldn’t buy this cream! I love cute stuff and penguins, and this is both! I first saw it at DM's online shop, but I waited until I found something else to buy, too. I almost missed it, but a helpful DM employee took her time and managed to find it buried among other stuff. I felt so happy! But it’s one thing to be adorable, quite another to be good; so, which one is this cream? Let’s see!

Packaging: it was packaged in a cardboard gift box (?, don’t know what to call it actually), and it had a place where you could write from whom and to whom it is being gifted. Since I bought it for myself there was no point writing anything here. But if you bought this cream as a gift, here’s the place to write it down. Aside from that, the outer, cardboard packaging has information about this cream (PAO, ingredients, etc).

The cream itself is beyond adorable! It’s made of plastic but it still feels quite sturdy. It’s made to look like a little penguin hiding in a plant pot! And it’s a happy, smiling penguin! Aww! The cap opens by unscrewing it, which automatically makes it close super securely. It’s a really fantastically cute packaging, I love it! Plus, when it’s empty, you can reuse the pot to store earrings or buttons or other such small items.

Ingredients: only glycerine for nourishment. No parabens. The scent is sooo wonderful! It’s an intense, perfumey scent, but it smells so wintery and refreshingly light! It’s supposed to smell like roses and vanilla; I guess it does, vaguely. If it is, it’s way more vanilla than rose. It’s just such a fresh scent, like fresh snow! Perfect for winter! And so cosy, too! The expiration date is 12 months after opening.

This is a white cream. Unfortunately, since it is a pot, you will have to apply the cream by dipping your fingers inside it, which isn’t the most hygienic way to apply creams. It is watery, thin, and yet it also silky and greasy. It’s such a lovely formula to use, although it is a bit too thin for my tastes. It’s such a smooth formula! And it’s not even heavy, it’s a very lightweight cream once it absorbs. Speaking of that, it absorbs in seconds, leaving your skin nice and soft. Very comfortable!

Sadly, this cream isn’t too hydrating. Though it feels pretty nourishing at first, it doesn’t manage to keep my hands hydrated until morning (I apply hand creams before going to bed). It’s completely gone by the morning, and my hand feel pretty dry, not at all hydrated or nourished

In conclusion, as much as I wanted to love this cream, the results just aren’t there. While everything else is great, it just doesn’t hydrate my hands enough overnight. Which isn’t too surprising, I guess, since the only real hydrating ingredient is glycerine, which can do a lot of things but it has got its limits. On the other hand, the formula is so lovely silky and super smooth and just lovely to use. And the best part? The adorable pot that the cream comes in. Look at the little smiling, happy pengu! How could you not be happy when you see that pengu? Alas, as adorable as it is, if the cream doesn’t help hydrate the skin, it just isn’t a good cream. I regret to say this, but I cannot recommend this cream.

Would buy again? Sadly, NO (It is not hydrating enough ☹️)
