Wet n Wild Star Lux Lip Gloss [1111962E - Lunar or Later] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - May 26, 2023

The fourth LE item for today, this is the Wet n Wild Star Lux Lip Gloss, shade 1111962E/Lunar or Later (sooo cool!). This also the first of 4 Star Lux lip glosses that I will review.

So, this lip gloss was part of the absolutely awesome LE Wet n Wild had, called Star Lux. Clever name, with even more punny and clever names for the product shades! Like, they are so wicked cool; Lunar or later you will grow to like the names! I originally wanted only a thing or two from this LE, but it evolved into me wanting most of the LE, so I ended up buying at least one Star Lux product each time I was at BIPA. After the bronze lip gloss came the golden lip gloss. Then after those two, I thought: “what the hell! Let’s get this one, too!” As a bonus, BIPA had 30% off all makeup that weekend so I got it for a great price! Let’s see what it’s like! This sparkly, starbright lip gloss!

Packaging: just a clear plastic tube. Nothing special. White text on a silvery white lip gloss?? Solid logic there. The cap is where the most attention to detail went. It’s this lovely creamy rose brown colour and has a starry print on it. Including a constellation, the Ursa Major/Big Dipper! Perfectly starry and cute! The cap closes incredibly tightly. There is this weird rattle inside the cap, I don’t know what’s going on with that. It was there before I dropped the lip gloss, so it’s not like I broke it. Idk.

Ingredients: passion fruit/maracuja (Passiflora edulis) seed oil, argan (Argania spinosa) kernel oil, vitamin E, mongongo tree (Schinziophyton rautanenii) kernel oil, macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia) seed oil, jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) seed oil, coconut (Cocos nucifera) oil, vitamin E for nourishment. Also soy (Glycine soja) oil. Is that enough emollients for you?? Like, holy cow! Literally A-Z of oils in this gloss! No parabens. The scent is, unlike many Wet n Wild lip glosses, actually kind of pleasant. There’s still a hint of an unpleasant smell in the background, but it mostly smells like cookies. Very sweet and like vanilla cake dough. I do like it, actually! The expiration date is 18 months after opening.

Colour: this is a clear lip gloss. However, it’s got a ton of shimmer inside it. The shimmer is iridescent, changing from light green to magenta pink. It’s absolutely stunning! So starry! And because it is a clear gloss at its core, that means that it will enhance the natural beauty of the lips or, if you are applying it over a lipstick, add another dimension of sparkliness! It really makes everything more beautiful!

The formula is extremely thick and creamy. It’s much more akin to a luxurious lip balm than a lip gloss. It’s also pretty greasy and oily, but not uncomfortably. I love this formula, even if it is ridiculously thick. Really nourishing! Of course it would feel this creamy and oily when it’s got pretty much all the oils you could think of! All those oils also serve to prevent the formula from being tacky!

Despite being so creamy and rich and incredibly thick, it does not actually feel too heavy on the lips. You can definitely feel it, but it’s actually really comfortable to wear! However, about an hour after applying it, it does become more dry than it used to be. It’s still creamy and rich, but it is definitely drier. It’s still comfortable, though. The glitter cannot be felt on the lips, even after the lip gloss becomes drier. The texture is extremely glossy, almost like glass. It’s so juicy and wonderful! I love it!

But there’s also a ton of shimmer that makes this lip gloss look multi-dimensional. So it is really starry and sparkly and shiny! Perfectly Star Lux!

I love how easy this gloss is to apply! It literally glides across lips without any tugging, even if your lips aren’t 100% smooth. There’s enough emollients to make sure this lip gloss isn’t heavy and tacky, but rich and smooth. So yeah, you’ll be done applying it in seconds!

Eh, what can I say? It’s a lip gloss, so of course it isn’t terribly long-lasting. It starts to feel more thick and dry the longer you wear it, like more dry greasy than luxuriously creamy like it does when first applied. But that’s not really annoying, as it still feels quite comfortable. It’s the fact that it is mostly gone within 2 hours of wearing it. By the end of the day it will have completely disappeared. Eh, standard lip gloss stuff I guess. So you have to keep reapplying it throughout the day if you want to keep it on your lips. No surprise then, that it is demolished by food and drinks. Even if the food isn’t greasy it will still wipe off the lip gloss. So, again, reapply after a meal. Or after drinking. Basically, keep reapplying it! I am not very disappointed, honestly, most lip glosses are like this.

This lip gloss does not dry out my lips at all, which was to be expected, given the ridiculous amount of emollients.

This lip gloss is super easy to remove, no matter what you use. Despite being so creamy and thick, it is removed in seconds and doesn’t leave a tacky residue. Although, and this is especially apparent if you remove the lip gloss with micellar water, all this shimmer that’s in the gloss usually goes everywhere so you’ll keep finding shimmer on your face for a long time after. That’s the price to pay for such a shimmery lip gloss!

The applicator is excellent, I must say! It’s a somewhat smaller flat applicator, but it makes up for its lack of size in how great it is at applying lip gloss. See, it picks up a very large amount of gloss, enough for both lips. Or for only one lip if you’re going for a very thick layer. It deposits the gloss super evenly (because it’s flat) and is precise enough to be able to line the lips with it (because it is thin). Even the cupid’s bow doesn’t pose a problem for this applicator!

And it is also sooo soft! Like plush! This applicator makes it extremely easy to quickly apply some gloss; perfect every time!

All in all, I quite like this lip gloss! Sure, it would be prettier if it had any colour, but I think these clear, sparkly lip glosses look good, too! They enhance the natural beauty of the lips, making them look shiny and juicy! Oh and the formula! It is stunningly luxurious, much more like a luxe lip balm than a lip gloss! It’s so creamy and nourishing and feels wonderful on lips! Despite that, it does not feel heavy! Which is a minor miracle! And it’s not tacky, either. So your lips get this luxurious coat of creaminess and softness. Beautiful! And the sparkles, too! The shimmer isn’t obtrusive, instead it only enhances the appearance of this lip gloss. It’s so beautifully sparkly, in just the right amount! Like, it’s not ridiculous over the top sparkly, no, it just adds the right amount of sparkle to make the lips look even more beautiful. And, since this is a clear gloss, you can layer it on top of any other colour, which makes it endlessly versatile. But it certainly isn’t long-lasting; few lip glosses are, anyways. This one disappears within a few hours and, naturally, eating any kind of food destroys it. So if you want to keep the sparkles you’ll have to reapply it every few hours and after each meal. And it leaves a mess of shimmer if you remove it using micellar water. Definitely use a wash gel of some kind! So those are the negatives; it’s not much, but it does affect my opinion of the gloss. However, even with these negatives, this is still a really great lip gloss, that surely nourishes lips with its plentiful oils! I would recommend it highly, but as it was part of an LE, it’s gone now! It’s always the great things that are discontinued first. Sigh.
