Wet n Wild Star Lux Shadow Quad [1111966E - Let’s Get Astrophysical] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - May 26, 2023

Heya!

The third review for today is going to be a celestial eyeshadow quad, the Wet n Wild Star Lux Shadow Quad, shade 1111966E/Let’s Get Astrophysical! So, let's indeed get astrophysical (play 'Physical' by Olivia Newton-John) and check this quad out!

This palette was part of the Star Lux limited edition, released in winter of 2021, focusing on the bright stars that make our galaxy. Fittingly, this shadow quad is very bright and sparkly and the colours remind me of stars. I almost missed it because I didn’t buy it the first time I saw it in BIPA. Fortunately, I managed to snag it! Yay!

Packaging is very simple, just a plastic case with a clear lid  that closes very tightly. The lid is decorated with a very pretty stars and constellations print (look at the crescent lil' moon, aww!). I love the print and the case doesn’t feel cheaply made, even if it is a tiny bit flimsy.

Ingredients: jojoba oil (shades 1, 2, 3, 4), vitamin E (shade 4) for nourishment. No parabens here! The scent is very subtle and a tiny bit powdery or even soapy. The expiration date is 18 months after opening.

Colours are quite nicely coordinated, although I would like it even more if there was a darker shade to use in the crease or outer V. The colours are really mystical and they do look like stars or the galaxy. There is a fine shimmery light cream, a fine shimmery coral with golden shimmer, a shimmery lavender with champagne shimmer, and an extremely glittery reddish/dark pinkish multicolour glitter. The colours all work really well together. Out of all them, the lavender is my favourite, definitely!

Various ways to combine the 4 colours in the quad

Pigmentation is really good, in general. The first shade is almost invisible on my skin since it’s matches my skintone so well. It works very well as a base shade, though! Shade 2 is quite pigmented and looks very pretty on pale skin. Shade 3 is gorgeous and quite excessively shiny, but I don’t care, it’s so futuristic! And shade 4 is extremely glittery and really sparkles like the stars!

The textures are fine shimmery, regular shimmery and chunky, extremely glittery. Shades 1 and 2 apply exceptionally easily be it with fingers or brushes, shade 3 us much more difficult to apply with brushes and very easily applied with fingers, while the glitter shade is pretty much impossible to apply with brushes. Shades 1, 2 and 3 feel really silky while applying them, and the glitter feels more rough and dry while applying it, despite being creamy in the pan

I didn’t notice any fall-out with the first three shades; the glitter is guaranteed to go everywhere, as is usual for glitters. Aside from the glitter, the shadows blend amazingly easily! It’s so great! Shades 1, 2, and 3 feel virtually weightless on my lids, super silky and soft, while shade 4 feels rough and kind of scratchy on lids. Using all 4 shades together makes for a really pretty, futuristic look!

As for the longevity, this palette is incredibly long-lasting; after a day of wearing it without a primer there was no visible creasing! Quite a surprise that the lavender shade didn’t crease, and especially surprising that the glitter didn’t crease much at all! My oily lids usually make most shadows crease, especially shimmers, but not this one!

And when I went to remove these shadows it was really easy... if I don’t count the glitter, that is. The lavender shimmer may leave shimmer on your skin after removing it but it’s not too bad. The three shades are very, very easy to remove with micellar water or an oil-based remover. But the glitter is a real piece of work! Like, man, good luck if you try to remove it with micellar water; you will be finding glitter pieces on your nose, your cheeks, everywhere days after removing it! Even when I removed it with my trusty Nivea remover there was still a ton of residual glitter on my face. So frustrating! But that is just how glitter is! Use it for special occasions and then regret ever putting it on your eyes!

At least the other shades being easy to remove balances it out.

All in all, I really like this palette! This entire collection is really good, and so is this palette. The colours are very nicely coordinated, are nicely pigmented, blend beautifully, and are really long-lasting! The only downside is the glitter, which is difficult to apply and impossible to remove properly. Aside from that one shade, if you use the three other shades, it makes a really pretty look. So just ignore the glitter, it is strikingly beautiful but it’s not really worth the hassle of removing it. I am satisfied with it, and it easily earns my recommendation, despite the glitter!

Would buy again? Probably YES (if I ever run into it, it is a limited edition collection after all!)
