Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 01, 2022
Time for the second item, Catrice Prime and Fine Pore
Refining Anti-Shine Base.
Knowing the importance of having a good primer, and not
actually having a primer at that time, this seemed like it would be a solid
choice to start with. So how good is this primer?
Well, let’s start with the packaging: it’s simple, white
matte plastic with a black cap and black text. So, a classic black/white
combination. It lets you know that this is a mattifying primer by making the
“Keep me matt” text huge. The cap fits well.
The ingredients include vitamin E, vitamin C, but there are no parabens. The scent is very subtle, a little chemical. The expiration date is 12 months after opening.
The formula is colourless, and creamy, thick. Even though it
is somewhat greasy, it is easy to apply. Though it does take quite some time to
dry.
Unfortunately, it leaves a very greasy film on my skin and
the promised effects weren’t true, at least on my oily/acne-prone skin. Namely,
even though there is “pore-refining” in the name, it does nothing for my pores.
As my pores are naturally larger near my nose, I’d like something to make them
look smaller. This does not do that; in fact, it might even make them look a
bit larger. Additionally, this is supposed to be a mattifying primer, but my
skin started to both feel and look oily within an hour of applying the primer.
So really, what’s the point?
There is at least one good thing, though, and that is that
is not at all drying for your skin. Unfortunately, perhaps this is due to the
formula being so thick/greasy or something else, but my skin started feeling
odd after applying it. Surely enough, after a couple of hours acne would form,
and they were pretty painful and inflamed. So, I had to remove it; at least it’s really easy
to remove.
In short: this primer might be good for people with normal or
combo skin, but it is horrible for my oily/acne-prone skin. I saw none of the
promised effects on my skin, and even despite that, I might have used it as a
pseudo-moisturiser were it not for the fact that it caused breakouts. So I just
didn’t like it, even though I had high hopes that it would be great. Instead, I
was left feeling disappointed. No recommendations for this, it's just bad.
P.S.: Sorry for the lack of comparison pictures, I totally forgot to take them while I still had this primer!
