Trend it Up Big Lash Love False Lashes [XXL Volume] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - March 09, 2025
Would you look at that? False eyelashes! Specifically, the
Trend it Up Big Lash Love False Lashes, variant XXL Volume!
Ah, lashes, how I adore you! My fascination with false
lashes began waaay back, but there was one problem... I was too chicken to
actually start wearing them. My eyes are very sensitive, I often feel
irritation in my lashline and my eyelids sometimes have these muscular twitches
that are very annoying and uncomfortable. So I was afraid of actually gluing
falsies on my eyes, I was afraid that the glue might irritate my already
sensitive eyes and make them water. And I dreaded removing all the bits that
remain after taking off falsies. But there are so many pretty false lash
designs! Like, say, Trend it Up! These falsies were part of Trend it Up’s new
product refresh; I was really stoked to see them finally come out with lashes
of their own! Initially, there were two designs, and I caved in and bought both
eventually. This kind of caving in and buying pretty falsies would continue,
don’t worry, even if I wouldn’t start to wear them often until much later. At
the start, I didn’t yet know exactly what shape or design was the best for my
eyes, but I already knew that anything wispy is probably the way to go. These
aren’t wispy at all, though! That’s because I craved some serious volume and
with a name like XXL Volume, these have to be good for that, no? Yes, they may
look a tiny bit messy, but they also look luxurious in a way. So I wasted no
time and bought them. Then I proceeded to waste all time and kept them in
storage until I was totally sure that my eyes could handle wearing falsies. Well,
that time is now, so let’s see how good these falsies are!
Packaging: cardboard packaging with plastic inside. The
design is quite minimalistic and modern; it may not be anything special but I
don’t mind it. The outer packaging is laminated cardboard with a rose pink
blocky half and a white half. Missed opportunity to make the lower text white!
This would balance out the upper text being pink on white; instead, the bottom
text is black on pink.
The back is white with black text, and this is where
you’ll find information about these lashes. There’s a plastic window that lets
you see the lashes without actually being able to touch them – excellent! I
don’t want a million people touching something that will go directly onto my
lashline. Inside, the lashes are kept glued on a piece of plastic. Pretty
standard stuff. Also, the glue is left to tumble around inside the case. You
may call this packaging cheap – and you may be right – but it has a certain
charm.
The lashes look quite dense in the case, before putting them
on my eyes. They are definitely more voluminous than long. In fact, they don’t
look very long at all! And the length is staggered; the inner corner is much
shorter than the outer corner. And this change in length isn’t executed most
smoothly, it is a pretty dramatic change so I wonder what that’ll look like on
eyes? Hopefully, it won’t look weird. The lashes are very dense, with distinct
‘tufts’ of hair separated by thinner sections. However, the overall appearance
is a bit messy; the separation of tufts and sparse areas could have been
executed much better. The lash band looks thick, I just hope it isn’t too rigid.
While this may not be my favourite kind of design for false eyelashes, I am
very curious to see how they will look on my eyes! They will certainly be
visible, that’s for sure!
The glue annoys me. It’s not a terrible lash glue, but it
seems to take way too long to dry enough to be usable, and it doesn’t change
colour to let you know it is ready for use. I waited for a minute or more and
it was still wet, not tacky, and that showed when I tried to glue the lashes. The
glue smeared all over, including on my natural eyelashes, which is just
fantastic. I cannot wait to pick all that damn glue off my sensitive eyes!
Sarcasm, in case you couldn’t tell. And I kept pressing down the lashes so that
the glue actually sticks, but it didn’t want to, for some reason. But then it
suddenly decided to actually start doing its only job, and it sticks
surprisingly strongly. Like, it’s proper strong! I tried to reposition the
lashes after the glue had set, and I couldn’t!
I literally would have had to
pull the eyelashes just to reposition them a tiny bit. And the glue holds the
entire day quite well; I didn’t notice that any part of the lashes had come off
after a day of wearing them, so apparently, it is actually a pretty competent
lash glue! Although, the inner corner didn’t want to stick properly, which
isn’t unusual, but it is very frustrating. I am happy that the outer corner
sticks so well, though!
Also, the glue doesn’t irritate my skin, and I have
sensitive eyes, so it is gentle enough. Good thing I wasn’t wearing eyeliner or
that glue would royally mess things up...
These eyelashes are actually difficult to use, and that is
due to the glue and the lash band. They are also quite large, but that wasn’t
an issue for me. It’s moreso the fact that the glue just doesn’t want to stick
until you’ve already smeared it all over. And the lash band is stiff and has a
lot of issues bending to follow the shape of the eyes. I had to reposition the
lashes on both eyes many times before the glue finally decided to stick.
Fortunately, I wasn’t wearing eyeliner, so there was no damage, but I can
already see how it would destroy eyeliner and cause it to smear.
But once the
glue sets, it is extremely hard to actually reposition the lashes, so you had
better get it right the first time! What makes them even harder to use is the
fact that the inner corner just flat out refuses to stay in place, so I have to
constantly pick at it to get it to stick. And I was feeling pretty down and
exhausted when I first tried these lashes, so these problems just made me feel
even worse. Yeah, these lashes are not a good choice when down bad with PMDD...
The lash band is relatively stiff, as well as being thick.
This makes it harder to position the lashes properly and even harder to make
the follow the natural curvature of the eyes. The result is that it always
looks a bit too straight. But, it isn’t that bad, I was still able to glue them
relatively well. What is an issue caused by the lash band is that one end
sticks out when you try to press the other end down – this proves that the lash
band is too stiff. In the end, I had to use both of my hands to somehow force
it to stay glued.
But, for all that trouble, at least it looks natural without
eyeliner! The lash band doesn’t necessarily require eyeliner to look good,
although that will absolutely help blend it in.
Hmm, I am not sure I like how these look on my eyes. They
are a bit too heavy on the outer corner, and they look a bit messy. I already
cut off the excess on the outer corner... perhaps I should cut a bit more off? Anyways,
these lashes are definitely XXL volume! They create so much volume at the base
of the lashes and it looks so good! The thick lash band helps with this, but
it’s mostly due to the fact that there are just so many hairs here! They looked
very dense and voluminous in their case, and that carries over to how they look
on my eyes.
But, the trade-off is that they aren’t the longest falsies around.
That’s okay, sometimes you need volume specifically. But one thing I don’t like
is that their overall shape is just messy; there doesn’t seem to be any
specific design to these except “extreme number of hairs”. They aren’t separated
into little tufts (on the eyes, at least) but they also don’t look that naturally dense. They do look
rather artificial. And the other thing I dislike is the gradual increase in
length from inner corner to outer corner.
I get why this is, but it kinda looks
sloppily made. I was afraid this would happen when I saw them in their case;
the inner corner hairs are far too short compared to the outer corner hairs,
and they don’t increase gradually enough. This is why they look heavy on the
outer corner of my eyes. I must say, though, I did not expect them to look fluttery
– and they do! It’s a nice effect, shame it is just a bit too heavy on me!
Oh,
and I mean it when I say that these become long at the outer corner – they are
so long that they almost bump against my browbone! Almost, because they are 3D
effect, so they stick out a long way, which helps prevent them from hitting the
browbone, but it also makes them a bit more artificial-looking. Oh and yes, I
know they look somewhat different on either eye, but I think that’s due to my
left eye being slightly different shape than the right – it drives me up the
wall with false eyelashes!
Oh, I did not expect these lashes to actually be kinda
comfortable to wear! I thought they’d be heavy because they sure look heavy –
look at the outer corner, that’s so dense and full of volume! But instead,
these lashes are relatively lightweight – I can still feel them on my eyes,
especially when I blink, but blinking doesn’t feel like an arduous task.
These lashes last about as long as most other false lashes.
They can be worn 4-5 times before they really start to look worn. They tolerate
washes quite well, though it is inevitable that the shape will change a tiny
bit. It is not very noticeable though, so it doesn’t matter. There is enough
glue for about 4-5 uses, as well. Although, be careful how you pick off the
glue from the lash band, I accidentally ruined one pair because I happened to
pick the lash band instead of the glue, and then the hairs started shedding,
which means that the pair was unusable.
These lashes can be tricky to remove. The glue sometimes
sticks way too much to my eyelids, so I have to try and pull them off with more
force, which is risky because I can accidentally either rip the falsies or pull
out my natural eyelashes. Neither is good, obviously. And, as usual, there is
always some remaining glue on my eyelids that is stubborn and very hard to
remove fully. My lashes were quite tender after I rubbed them vigorously trying
to remove the remaining glue. So obviously this isn’t the best thing for
sensitive eyes like mine. Eh.
These lashes are far too sensitive for how stiff and thick
the lash band is. Like I said, you really need to be careful how you clean
them, as it is way too easy to accidentally tear them while picking off the
glue. I wanted to wear them again, but since I ruined one side, that’s going to
be impossible now. Sigh. Just issue after issue. Anyways, here’s how I clean
falsies: first, I take mini tweezers and slowly – very methodically – pick off
all the glue residue off the lash band. This is by far the most annoying and
time consuming part of cleaning them. Even more so with that damn stubborn
glue! I reckon that’s what lead to me stupidly ruining one side, as I had to
use more force to get the glue off. Stupid of me. But the lash band should have
been able to withstand this, so it’s not just my fault.
I stopped cleaning them
after this, but the routine would continue with a micellar water deep cleanse
to get mascara residue off, then I would rinse them off in lukewarm/cold water,
let them air dry, and then, once they are dry, spray them with alcohol spray to
disinfect them. The cleaning is very annoying but it must be done... just wish
they were able to survive the first cleaning.
All in all, eh, I am not sure I like the way these lashes
look on me, but they aren’t bad false eyelashes. They don’t look cheap or very
plasticy, and the hairs aren’t sharp, so that’s good. They are not the most
pleasant to use because of two reasons: the glue and the lash band. The glue is
so annoying! It takes ages to cure, but even once it does, it still smears all
over my eyelids – what gives??? Lucky
that I wasn’t wearing eyeliner – what a mess that would be! But I did end up
gluing my own lashes, which is so beyond annoying. And I had to keep fiddling
with the inner corner because it just wouldn’t stick, no matter what I tried. Then,
after a lot of finessing, I was able to stick them, and the lash band is
relatively stiff, which doesn’t help one bit. The stiffness causes one end to
lift when you press the other down, not good. Falsies should be able to be fit
naturally across the eyes, not have a straight line. To be fair, this lash band
isn’t as stiff as some of the previous falsies I used so far, but it is still
annoying. Also, I wish the lash band were thinner, it looks like there’s
obviously false eyelashes on. Well, I guess it is hard for this kind of style
to ever look natural, tbh. These are for sure voluminous, like the name
implies, but they are only so voluminous at the outer corner. The inner corner
and the centre are fairly natural, with relatively short hairs that look really
nice. But then, they suddenly become super long and thick; it’s this abrupt
change that bothers me, I just don’t think it looks natural or good. It’s way
too sudden going from soft and natural to 3D volume, extremely long lashes.
These aren’t the longest lashes, but they make up for that in volume in the
outer corner. One other thing that bothers me is that the hairs are arranged
kinda messily. But the hairs themselves feel pretty high quality. These are
suitable for everyday wear, if you want more drama. Sadly, they are just a tad
too heavy for my eyes. Heavy, as in, they look heavy; they are actually not
that heavy. These lashes are far from being the lightest lashes around, but
they don’t make it difficult to blink and their weight doesn’t irritate my
eyes. I thought they would be heavier, honestly, they look like they would be
heavy. But nope! As for longevity, these last the normal amount of time; that
is to say, you can reuse them a couple of times before they start to show signs
of wear and tear. Their shape may change ever so slightly after a wash, which
is nothing unusual. I actually kinda like these lashes, I just wish they didn’t
have such a sudden change from short to extra long. Otherwise, they are decent
lashes. Oh, just be very careful how you clean them, I ended up ruining them by
accident on the first cleaning. I accidentally picked up a tiny part of the
lash band and tore it, which lead to hairs shedding. Now, yes, this is
primarily my fault, but they should have been able to survive this. But I am
not going to recommend them precisely because of that wonky shape, it is hard
to make it look natural on any eye shape – and because of that extreme
sensitivity to plucking the glue while cleaning them. Think I’ll stick to the
Natural set from Trend it Up...
