And one face mask to round out this lovely set of skincare
for today! This is the Balea Maske Cocos & Pitaya!
Ah... another one of these affordable, two-use face mask
from Balea. If you’ve seen any other reviews I have of these masks, you would
see that I am, more often than not, very unsatisfied with the results. So, pray
tell, why do I keep coming back to them? Mostly curiosity, because, not every
single one can be bad... right? And because I love the artwork on the sachet
and/or the ingredients; indeed, with this mask, both were reasons why I bought
it. The summery design on the sachet immediately brought images of humid
summery nights on the beach to my mind... with the sound of waves relaxing the
mind more and more every minute. And I love coconut and pitaya both! I looove
the smell of coconut, there’s nothing like cracking open a fresh, ripe coconut
and smelling that fresh coconut water, ahh! And pitaya is delicious in ice
creams and sorbets! So, surely, both of these very summery fruits will be able
to nourish my skin, right? I mean, coconut is known for its many good effects
on the skin! I just hope it isn’t mega greasy like most of these other masks...
but there’s only one way to tell! Let’s try it out!
Packaging: sachet, as usual. However, it is perforated down
the middle to give you 2 uses. I really love the design! Balea always manages
to make such fun designs with these masks, no matter their actual quality. This
one is so summery, with palm leaves and freshly opened coconuts and pitayas! Oh
man, to have a fresh coconut right about now... or a pitaya! That smell... oh I
miss it! And pitaya is so yummy! Such a wonderfully summery design! And the
bright blue background really sets the summery tone! The back is metallic pink,
almost the colour of pitaya. The metallic finish makes the text slightly harder
to read. The text is light pink, so that it matches the darker pink colour
perfectly. I’ll just note that this sachet isn’t the easiest to open, you
really need scissors.
Ingredients: glycerine, coconut (Cocos nucifera) fruit
extract/oil, dragon fruit/pitaya (Hylocereus undatus) fruit juice, vitamin E
for nourishment. No parabens. Well, it does have both coconut and pitaya, I
guess. Although, I don’t like those oils being so close to the top of the list,
this may be too greasy for my skin. The scent is pleasant, it smells kinda
creamy but mostly tropical, which is something I really love! It’s a subtle
scent that doesn’t smell obnoxiously like coconut, but it is very summery
nonetheless. These kinds of scents always remind me of summer and the beach...
ahh! So nice! The expiration date is not listed anywhere, as usual with Balea
masks. This mask should be left on for 10-15 minutes but it should not be
rinsed off! Any excess should just be blotted with a cotton pad or left to
absorb overnight. Yeah, I don’t think I’ll do this... we’ll see.
Colour: oh... this isn’t white like coconut or the inside of
pitaya! Instead, this mask is peach coloured? Weird colour for these
ingredients but okay I guess. This colour isn’t too visible on the skin,
though.
Uhh, yeah, the formula of this mask is very similar to all
other masks of this type. By that, I mean that it is very thick... way too
thick for me. However, it doesn’t really feel particularly greasy, it actually
feels more like mousse than pure grease. This is an improvement, however small
it may be, because these masks almost always end up being super oily and
greasy. This one is just slightly greasy. This helps it be easy to spread
across the face. It basically just glides across skin.
I still very much dislike
this formula, but at least it isn’t as extremely greasy as the others. Oh,
also, after it is “absorbed”, it becomes white, which would be okay, but the
extreme pilling most certainly is not! It’s awful, actually.
Okay, so first and foremost, this feels heavy on my skin. A
little greasy, but mostly heavy. However, that’s not all! It also feels kinda
nourishing, like my skin is going to be repaired. But the weirdest thing is
that I feel both a warming and cooling sensation at the same time. It’s like
it’s cooling my skin but also warming up??? How can that be?? Very perplexing.
Also, after it absorbs, it becomes even heavier and like it’s thicker. I
wouldn’t say it’s like clay drying, it just feels dense on my skin.
Very
uncomfortable. My skin is already oily, I don’t need extra greasiness on top of
it.
Results: okay, 15 minutes are up! I decided to just wipe off
the excess with a cotton pad. I am sure I removed too much, but eh, whatever.
So... I do not see any notable changes for better or worse. Pores still look
about the same, skin doesn’t look any plumper or more hydrated or anything,
really. It does feel slightly more nourished and hydrated, though. And that
blasted cooling sensation still persists! That’s actually most of what I can
feel. It’s like I haven’t used anything... at least it didn’t cause breakouts.
But the results are frankly, quite poor.
No real changes the next day, either. My skin looks alright.
Not any better or worse. It may be slightly more shiny though, from all that
grease inside the mask being left overnight.
Overall, I wish I could say I am truly disappointed, but I
have grown used to these little Balea face masks not being good. Why do I keep
buying them, then? Because the design or ingredients used sound good, that’s
why. And I keep getting mediocre or even bad results. So, the scent is probably
the best thing about this mask! I really love it; it reminds me of beaches in
the summer at sundown... what a relaxing picture in my mind, ahh! The serum,
though, isn’t quite as relaxing. It is very unusual; it is peach-coloured and
very mousse-like and heavy. And I would be able to take that, but the surprise
it is hiding right up until you apply it to the face is what is bothering me.
See, it feels odd while it is absorbing. I didn’t know what to make of this
feeling, like, is the warming sensation a sign of irritation or is that how
it’s supposed to be? And the cooling sensation that accompanies the warming
one? Like, how can it both be cooling and warming at the same time? Aside from
that, the mask simply feels too heavy on my skin. The results are very poor as
well. I literally don’t see any change for the better or worse and my skin just
feels slightly more hydrated and nourished. Pitaya and coconut should be able
to nourish the skin far better than this! But the most appalling thing is when
the mask dries... and you are left with a pilled mess. There is no way to
actually remove the excess cleanly, it always pills up and leaves those little
balls of mask on the pillowcase and everywhere else. It frankly looks ugly and
it feels heavy on my skin. So now, since this mask is supposed to not be rinsed
off, I am left with this mess until the morning... great. Pity, I was really
looking forward to this mask. I was hoping that yummy coconut and pitaya would
help but alas, that isn’t the case... shame. No recommendations for this mask,
obviously.
