Ah, hello!
Time to see what's new in the world of makeup again - this time, we'll see what Maybelline has in store for us!
This should be all the new stuff; at least, it's everything that is shown as 'new' on the website. And there's a couple of items that I am quite hyped about! So, let's break it down into more manageable sections.
EYES
Let's first start with the eye region, including brows, as I feel like this would be a good first stop. There's just 4 new products, though they sure are interesting!
Two new mascara variants? Nice! Both are Lash Sensational, as usual, but one is more classic, while other is a real party colour. The fun mascara is a Lash Sensational Sky High, but in an intriguing colour: silver! That's so unconventional! Apparently, it is infused with pearls, so it should give a wondrously sparkly finish to the eyelashes. Aside from the silver glitter, it seems to be pretty similar to the classic Lash Sensational Sky High, so expect it to separate the lashes and add an extreme amount of lengthening and some volumising. Now, time for me to be a party-pooper: to me, this silvery sparkly finish looks stupid. Call me boring, but I just don't see the appeal of this aside from maybe a NYE party. It just looks like you have eyeshadow fall-out on your eyelashes... I dunno. So that's a pass for me.
The second mascara is a boring black one, also part of the Lash Sensational collection, but this one is different! This is the Firework™ variant, which has a substantially different kind of wand compared to Sky High. Apparently, it's called a "SuperSpark™" brush; its bristles are arranged in a spiral pattern reminiscent of fireworks. This should allow the brush to grab every single lash and curl it and lift it while also adding length and volume. I actually really like the design of this wand, though I would prefer if it was made of fibres instead of silicone. Do note that this isn't the first Lash Sensational Firework mascara; there were 3 other variants before it, all in some variant of black. I won't even start on what the difference between "Very Black" and "Electro Black" is... I really doubt you'd see any kind of difference IRL.
But anyways, like the other Lash Sensational Fireworks mascaras, this one also seems to have incredible results - judging by the model photos. If my lashes would be even half as voluminous or curled as the ones on photos, I'd be very happy! My curiosity is moderately piqued... the only thing that's puzzling to me is: what do they mean by "high shine gloss"? The model's eyelashes don't look glossy one bit... maybe IRL I would be able to see the gel formula actually have some gloss. Hmm... I am currently undecided whether to try out this mascara but I just may...
Then, there are two new variants of the classic old Tattoo Studio® Sharpenable Gel Pencil, this time in... oh lord. Duo-chrome. I get why they'd make it like this, it's to complement the silver shimmery mascara, but I... I just don't like duo-chrome as an effect. Perhaps I just haven't used a good duo-chrome product yet, could be. But I simply don't like the colours they used here for the duo-chrome anyways. Pale blue/violet sounds good on paper, but looking at the model photos, it is barely visible on most skintones. Purple/green is a much more adventurous colour but it kinda looks dirty, doesn't it? Now, I know that this pencil isn't bad (I have one already and I like it), but I still won't be buying either of these new colours. I just don't get why everyone's jumping on this duo-chrome wagon...
And lastly, something for the brows! The Superfluff™ Brow Mousse! Brow mousse, eh? Now that's something you don't see every day! I have never had a brow mousse - pomades, yes, but never a mousse. At the end of the day, this is a brow gel, but with a much softer and probably easier to use formula. "Its innovative airy volumizing mousse formula diffuses onto hair for a soft, full look." sounds lovely, and I would love to try it but I have always preferred fully filled-in brows. Idk, I just cannot get used to the fluffy brow trend. Shame, because this really interests me! But I just don't feel right with sparse, fluffy brows. But the shade range is pretty nice!
FACE
Now, time to see what Maybelline has for the largest area to apply makeup: the face! Oof, quite a lot, it seems! But in actuality, it's not that much, it's just a lot of shades.
There's two primers, with two different goals for each of them. The Poreless Jelly™ Hydrating Blur Primer is enriched with 2% niacinamide, so it should even out the skintone. However, while Maybelline does call it 'hydrating', I don't see anything that would actually hydrate the skin, so I doubt that it's going to be a lifesaver for dry skin. I... am not too sure about the jelly formula. They do claim that it doesn't pill, but my experience with most jelly-like primers is the exact opposite. I know I could absolutely use pore-minimising, but... yeah, I don't like this primer much. Also: "Layers well with makeup"? I sure hope it does...
The other primer is also enriched with niacinamide, but also panthenol, so this one is more hydrating than the previous one... interesting, no? The Grippy Serum™ Hydrating Grip Primer's purpose it to - as the name implies - help foundation/concealer grip onto it so that it doesn't slide during the day. Useful for sure! Apparently, it absorbs within 20 seconds, after which it becomes very tacky. Now, yes, I know that this tackiness is valuable for making makeup last as long as possible but I just cannot tolerate anything so tacky on my skin. I just cannot handle that feeling. So nope, I am not interested in this, either. Also, note: do NOT swipe the pipette across your face! Even though most makeup tiktoks do that, it is probably the worst thing you could do as you will introduce a whole host of bacteria and risk acne breakouts!
Then, some colourful concealers! Colour-correction is nothing new, and it is a valuable tool to have if you have issues such as redness or discolouration on your face. Sometimes, 'normal' concealers don't do the job quite right, so the use of an additional coloured concealer is necessary. I personally don't use colour-correcting, so I won't be getting this, but I do like that these concealers are infused with goji berry extract, lactic acid and peptides! That said, it also has a boatload of silicones so do be aware of this if you have acne-prone and/or oily skin!
Now, after colour-correcting, it's time to apply foundation, and there's two different ones to pick from! I was instantly intrigued with the Super Stay® Lumi-Matte Foundation, which is a medium-to-full coverage foundation. Yes! Exactly what I like! But note the name - it "gives a luminous matte finish"... ugh. So close yet so far. I am allergic to glowy base products because my skin is naturally oily, so this foundation is obviously not meant for me. But, if you have drier skin, this might be excellent! I love how airbrushed it looks on photos but I noticed on a few shades that it tends to crease a little bit. This isn't good. Also, while the shade range is excellent in the deeper range (and it has 24 colours, which is impressive for a drugstore foundation), I don't see any shade that would be suitably light for my pale skin.
102 and 110 still look a bit too dark. This is a reoccurring issue with Maybelline base products; the lightest shades are always at least 2 shades too dark for me. And look, I have been much more open to experimenting with foundations lately, but something tells me that this foundation won't fit me. It's really such a shame. I really wanted to try it. I am glad that there are super dark colours, though!
The other 'foundation' is the Lifter Stix™ Multi-Use Face Stick, available in 'just' 18 shades. Truth be told, this isn't a foundation per se; it is more meant to be a multi-use product, able to be used as a foundation, brightener or a contour stick. These are super useful! But again, pale skin gets shafted... even shade 5 looks too dark to be used as foundation. Sigh. I am honestly not interested in this; my skin hates creamy/liquid contour/highlight products so I stick to powder contours. And I cannot even highlight with it anyways. But for darker skin, this is a fantastic product! It will allow you to truly personalise your contouring with a few different shades, for a full glam look. The coverage isn't particularly impressive, but man does it look natural! And I heard that it blends so effortlessly! Though, the name reminds me so much of Nudestix... isn't this a bit close?
I get that they are using Lifter from the Lifter Gloss, Plump and Liner products, in order to make a sort of collection, but the Stix? It's the 'x' that's bothering me. It also doesn't look as expensive as Maybelline products usually do; it actually looks rather cheap. Meh, pass.
And lastly, something that I will completely ignore for the reasons listed above. There are more shades, but only the matte variant was listed on the 'New' page, so, while this is named "Multi-use Liquid Blush and Bronzer", the colours are obviously all blushes. And ugh, it's literally mostly reds. These are way too intense for pale skin, but it should be okay for medium-tone skin, as displayed on model photos. I am really getting over nothing being appropriate for pale skin... we need subtle blushes as well! Not bright freaking red! Okay, to be fair, there are two non-red shades, but both are... weird? Berry Brunch is literally darker mauve, and it looks odd even on darker skin so... who does this fit? And don't get me started on Lilac Clouds!
It's giving sickness - and not in the oooh-ah-ah-ah-ah way. It's way too purple, that's the issue. I really don't get this product, and I feel like it's not the most appropriate for oily skin. It just looks like it's trouble so no, I don't want this one bit!
LIPS
Ah, finally, we have come to this section! I am constantly looking for new, interesting lip products and this? This product is something I crave!
Part of the Super Stay range, but in a much softer, gentler way than the Liquid Ink or Vinyl Ink: this is the Super Stay Teddy Tint™! A lip tint instead of a proper super intense matte liquid lipstick. Korean-style makeup is becoming more and more popular, and one thing they really love there is lip tints. It's all about looking natural and soft - rarely will you see crusty ultra-matte liquid lipsticks there or super sculpted lips. While I am not a fan of any kind of lip stain, I am very hyped for this! I don't know why exactly, but it just looks so soft and plush and comfortable! Indeed, to quote: "Get the rush for plush with a teddy-soft tint that lasts. Plush, light feel with a flush of matte color."
I looove that it's soft matte and that it doesn't seem to exaggerate the fine lines of the lips! It also shouldn't transfer and should last an entire day! Oh, and look at the colours: it's not just reds like with so many lip tints, there's also nude colours and brown and mauve! Excellent range! There should be something for everyone here. I already have my eyes set on one particular shade: Knee High! It's so natural and soft and beautiful! I cannot wait for Notino to restock it or to find it in shops IRL and try it out!
However, my expectations were tempered a bit later, after reading some reviews on Notino. Apparently, it pills and is tacky AF on lips? And it's extremely drying? Aw man... don't tell me this soft lipstick isn't actually teddy soft... please don't let it be like NYX's Shine Loud High Shine Lip Color, which... let's just say was nowhere near what it was advertised - at least on my lips. I was super disappointed with that, I don't want for that to happen again with the Teddy Tint. Well, there is only one way to find out, right?
OVERALL
Well, this was definitely a more diet-sized refresh compared to my usual fare (Essence & Catrice). But, some might say that this is a case of more quality than quantity - I won't suggest anything like that, because Maybelline isn't immune to have dud products. Indeed, I already have some Maybelline products that aren't as good as they ought to be. And I am feeling personally like this refresh will have a few such products (looking at you duo-chrome pencils and glittery mascara and liquid blush). There's a good variety of new products here, with something for most of the face.
The new products are mostly trend-inspired. It's currently popular to have extremely loud blush so here's a vibrant liquid blush. The spacey-theme is popular still, so here's a sparkly mascara and - of course - duo-chrome eye pencils. There's a renewed appreciation for fluffy brows so here's a brow mousse. And, of course, thanks to Korea-inspired makeup, lip tints are experiencing a massive revival right now in their popularity, so there's a new lip tint. Do I mind these trend-based products? No, because it is good to have more affordable trendy makeup (and because who am I to say anything with allll of the Essence/Catrice LEs...).
Although I don't see many products here lasting for like a decade. Still, a fairly interesting assortment of makeup that's a bit different, for typical Maybelline at least. Though they are known to experiment, of course! But not as much as say Wet n Wild or Rimmel.
And... that's it! Hope you enjoyed this overview and found something interesting! I know I found a few products that I will most definitely try out!
See you soon!
