Rimmel Kind & Free Clean Plant Based Nail Polish [153 - Lavender Light] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - October 26, 2024

The second of two Rimmel nail polishes for today, this one is eco-friendly and clean. This is the Rimmel Kind & Free Clean Plant Based Nail Polish, shade 153/Lavender Light!

I have heard a ton of praise for Rimmel nail polishes. It seems like they are both cheap and of excellent quality. So when I had a promo code on Notino that reduced the price of, among other things, Rimmel products, I simply had to try it out. It was more than like 50% off, so what better time to see what all the fuss is about? Only, I couldn’t decide what colour; the white was nice, but then there’s a nude beige... hmm. Oh and a pretty pastel blue and pastel lavender. Choices, choices! I decided to go with this lovely lavender colour because, for one, I actually love the way lavender nail polishes look on my skin, and two, I already decided on another Rimmel nail polish that was nude coloured, so to avoid having two colours that are too similar. Apparently, this nail polish is part of a ‘clean’ line of products, being friendly to skin yet still vivid and long-lasting. Could that be true? Is the hype over it worth it? Let’s find out!

Packaging: this seems to be the standard type of packaging Rimmel use for their nail polishes. It’s a nice round glass bottle that is squished at the top. I like this shape, it’s fun. The white text looks great on the lavender, but it is difficult to read. It does add a lot of elegance to an otherwise plain bottle. I love the colour of the cap! It’s such a calm shade of blue that goes literally perfectly with the lavender polish. The cap closes very securely, so no need to worry about the polish drying out. I must say that I really like the design, I love how gentle the colours are and how soothing it is.

Ingredients: zinc (zinc sulfate) and vitamin E to nourish your nails and make them stronger. Also, Lithothamnion calcareum extract (red algae) and diatomaceous earth! Interesting! Nothing harmful, such as DBP, formaldehyde or toluene. The scent is really like most nail polishes, despite being ‘clean’ it smells just the same. The expiration date is 30 months after opening.

Colour: such a beautiful light lavender, or even light lilac. It’s a gorgeous colour for spring and it looks surprisingly good on my pale skin! It’s so calming and gentle! I am not usually one for purple nail polishes, but lavender is kinda my weakness; and besides, I knew deep down that it would be very pretty. So I am glad that my gut was right! I honestly adore this colour, it’s literally perfect!

Brush: oh, it’s quite wonderful! It deposits a very thick, but pretty even, layer of pigment. It also picks up an absolutely ridiculous amount of polish, way, way too much for one nail. Remember to tap off the excess! It’s large enough for my nails, making it even easier to paint my nails, as I need fewer strokes; my nails are small though, but I do believe it would still be large enough for larger nails. However, the shape of the brush is peculiar: it’s longer in the centre than on the sides, giving it a slightly tapered shape. I dunno if it is supposed to be cut straight or if it should have this odd shape, but it doesn’t affect its usage so I guess I’ll just stop thinking about it. It’s flat and quite thin actually, which helps it apply polish as perfectly as it does. I quite love this brush, despite its weird shape.

The formula is watery but it still feels silky. It’s got a good amount of thickness in it so that it doesn’t feel too thin and watery. It’s also not runny at all. This isn’t what I was expecting, but it’s not a bad formula in any way.

One coat is pretty sheer, like maybe 60% opacity. It’s relatively even, not as much as I’d hoped it would be, though. It’s a bit messy, to be honest. However, with two coats it looks absolutely perfect! All that unevenness and messiness is gone, leaving you with a perfectly applied nail polish! It’s pretty much totally opaque with two coats. I love how rich it looks with two coats, it’s an almost professional finish! The texture is glossy.

Longevity is simply spectacular, honestly! The polish gets barely a few scratches and even when it does, it does not affect how glossy it is. It is in almost perfect condition 4 days later, only having one tiny chipped off part on one nail. The rest look fabulous still! No matter what I do it seems to resist chipping off or getting any damage at all! It even stayed in excellent condition after a hair wash! Washing my hair is usually the critical point where most nail polishes get destroyed to at least some degree, but not this nail polish! Only the tiniest little piece broke off, and that was from the already chipped off area, all the other nails are still in almost perfect condition! This is stupidly good! Like wow! Plus, my nails feel much harder and stronger now, so I seems that it does repair the nails!

It’s super easy to remove, too! I didn’t have to rub my nails for long to completely remove the polish. It also doesn’t leave any yellow stains.

Conclusion: oh my god, this nail polish is SO good! It was for sure worth all the hype! The brush is big and deposits nail polish almost perfectly, the formula is super silky and easy to use, and it looks perfectly even and opaque with two coats. The colour is so cute and perfect for spring; such a lovely pastel lavender! And it actually looks great on pale skin! But the longevity! I, honestly, never thought it would be this durable! It last seemingly forever... well, not really, but it does last a long fricking time. It manages to survive a hair wash with almost no new chipped off parts, and it doesn’t really get scratched easily, so it will stay glam and glossy for a week, easy! Which is much longer than I can say for most other nail polishes on my nails; they usually start to chip significantly by day 3. Oh, and not only does it last this long, it also makes the nails noticeably harder! My nails weren’t brittle or weak to begin with, but they definitely felt harder and tougher after I removed this nail polish after 5 days. So, it’s a dual-purpose nail polish, actually: a coloured nail polish and a hardening nail polish! They weren’t kidding when they said that it is kind to hands! Marvellous! I am over the moon with this nail polish, argh, it’s so good, like... and the first Rimmel I ever used! What an introduction! So, yeah, I am going to join the others and give this nail polish my highest recommendation! You won’t want to miss it!
