Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish [561 - #YOLO] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - October 26, 2024
The first of two Rimmel nail polishes, this one is neutral,
for every occasion. This is the Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish,
shade 561/#YOLO!
Look, with a name like that, how could I choose any other?? I
did bounce between a couple of shades, all nude of course, because I knew I
wanted to have one Rimmel nail polish that I could use when my nails are short,
and that goes with everything. I heard great things about Rimmel nail polishes,
about how they are extremely long-lasting and just all-around awesome polishes,
so I had to try out at least one of them! So, let’s see if it is as good as
it’s been hyped up to be!
Packaging: a nice clear round glass bottle. It looks a bit
squished, which gives it a really interesting shape. I do say, the white text
isn’t the best choice for this particular colour, it just blends in too much.
But it does look elegant, I’ll admit. The cap is long and black, which is eh,
alright. It does add some much needed contrast to the bottle. The cap closes
very securely.

Brush: a nice flat brush that is a bit large! It’s a much
better brush than I thought it would be, tbh. It picks up a very generous
amount of polish, enough for, I reckon, 4 nails. Be sure to tap it off or
you’ll have a right mess on your hands! It applies polish evenly, making it
really easy to use. And, given its size, I only need a few swipes to completely
cover my nails in this gorgeous colour. It’s also pretty precise on the edges,
so you don’t usually end up with a lot of nail polish on the skin. It’s up
there with Catrice nail polish brushes, in terms of quality, which is huge!
Oh my, this colour is even more beautiful than i thought! It’s
a neutral colour that is a bit too dark for me to be truly nude; however, it is a great everyday colour, especially
because it’s not a typical beige or tan. It’s almost greige, like a soft brown
with a lot of grey pigments in it. It looked a bit more brown on photos but I
really, really like all the grays inside it! It’s a really elegant colour that
can be worn to formal occasions no problem. I don’t know, it just looks so
classy on my pale skin. Although it does remind me somewhat of clay, like I
went and dipped my nails in some clay! A gorgeous colour in any case!
The formula is a bit gelly, but still feels incredibly silky
and smooth. It feels thick even though it really isn’t. It’s also quite creamy!
It’s a wonderful formula, so easy to use, as it’s always perfectly even!
Although I do prefer the formula Rimmel used in their Kind & Free nail
polish more. Oh, and it definitely does not dry totally in 60 seconds; it was
still tacky so I have no doubts that it would end up getting imprints from
pretty much anything. Better to stay on the safe side and treat it like any
other nail polish and let it dry properly.
It’s semi-opaque with one coat, maybe about 70% sheer. This
is a bit too sheer for me, though, so I have to add one more coat. With two
coats it is totally opaque. Whether one or two coats, it is even either way,
although it does look much better with two coats, the colour develops its true
colouration with two coats. It doesn’t even look thick with two coats; in fact,
it still looks naturally thin! The texture is very glossy, but that is hampered
by some things, see below.
Problems with longevity start, well, at the start! Namely,
this nail polish developed a ton of air bubbles as it was drying. Not a single
nail was spared, with some having a dozen bubbles or more. Why this happens I
do not know. I did everything the same as I always do: buff my nails, polish
them, apply one thin coat, wait until it is almost dry, apply second coat,
apply drying drops. But for some reason this one decide to get a million
bubbles! It cannot be the drying drops as they never cause them. Such a shame,
especially after the Kind & Free nail polish, which was spectacular. This
ruins the finish, sigh. Is it Mek? Is it too many ingredients? Who knows, but
it is a damn shame nonetheless. Also, it’s not immune to scratches; it gets
some scratches, which, to be fair, do not ruin the super glossy finish, but
it’s still not a good thing in its own.
So I would advise applying some kind of
top coat to prevent that. However, it has excellent longevity, as far as
chipping goes. It only chipped on day 4, and even then it was a very small chip
on only one nail. Nothing that I did caused chipping on the other nails,
washing the dishes, gardening, changing bedsheets... even a hair wash did
nothing to them! I am honestly amazed! But then again, the other Rimmel nail
polish had this kind of bonkers longevity so I should have seen it coming!
As with the Kind & Free nail polish, this one too, is extremely
easy to remove. With only a minimal amount of rubbing the entire nail polish is
gone! This is great for those of us with sensitive nails. And it also does not
leave any stains since it is such a neutral colour!
All in all, I really, really wanted to love this nail
polish, especially after the Kind & Free nail polish turned out to be so
fricking fantastic. But this one just doesn’t live up to the hype. It’s frankly
a disappointment. The gorgeous colour can only go so far; with the polish
getting scratches and developing a ton of air bubbles, it’s just not good. Now,
yes, this is a beautiful neutral greige that is perfect for light/pale
skintones (well, not the perfect nude, but it looks do good anyways), and it is
super glossy, but no way does it actually dry in 60 seconds. I tried, and it
was still tacky, seeming like it would end up with all kinds of imprints. So
nail polish drying drops it is! This isn’t a problem to me as I never leave my
nail polishes dry without those drops, it’s just too much of a risk given how
clumsy I can be. But, the air bubbles! I don not know why they appear but they
do ruin it; okay, they aren’t visible from afar and don’t really affect the
texture, but if you come at all closer and look you will see all the dozens of
bubbles on the nails. See, I’d be okay if it was maybe one or two in total, but
having 10-15 on one nail alone, I mean come on! At least it’s even and
perfectly opaque with two coats, it really looks professional (minus the
bubbles of course). What seems to be a staple of Rimmel nail polishes is that
they are ridiculously long-lasting, which is true of #YOLO as well. No matter
what I did, it stayed in perfect condition... until day 4, when a very tiny
piece chipped off one nail. But when you consider everything that I’d been
doing by then, it seems almost impossible for a nail polish to stay in almost
perfect condition. And I am not talking only about a hair wash – which is
typically what damages most nail polishes to at least some extent – I was even
able to change my bedsheets with nary a scratch! It’s almost funny how easy
this nail polish is to remove compared to how extremely durable it is! I
definitely felt #YOLO buying this nail polish, as I’d never used a Rimmel polish
before, and it pains me to say that it just isn’t that good, primarily because
of the air bubbles. They really ruin everything. I was so hyped to try it,
after the lavender Kind & Free nail polish turned out to be spectacular, but I was
let down in the end. Perhaps if I use a good base coat it will reduce the
number of bubbles that form. Sigh. Such a shame. I really want to give it a
recommendation but it is difficult with these bubbles and the fact that it
isn’t scratch proof. With a heavy heart, I will not be giving this gorgeous
nail polish a recommendation, despite all the praise.
Rating: 7/10
Would buy again? Eh, maybe YES (even in spite of the air
bubbles, but it’s a very slim chance)
