Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure. Lasting Color [370 - Crystal Blue] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - September 28, 2025

Welp, let’s try another Sally Hansen... I am not holding my breath, though. This is the Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure. Lasting Color, in the shade 370/Crystal Blue!

The second of nine Sally Hansen nail polishes for today, perhaps I should have stayed at just the one I planned originally. See, Notino had a huge Coty sale (Max Factor, Bourjois, Rimmel, Sally Hansen), so, for a nice fun challenge, I decided to get one product from each brand. Only, somewhere along the way, I ended up picking two additional Sally Hansen nail polishes since they were so affordable and these (Color Foil, Xtreme Color™, Good. Kind. Pure.) were the ranges I had yet to try. And the colours were fun! But, after seeing how horrible the Color Foil Nail Makeup was... perhaps that should have been it? Anyways, this is the “vegan & natural” range from Sally Hansen. Although, since Sally Hansen as a whole isn’t vegan, how vegan is this actually? NO shade – I am just wondering because things aren’t exactly adding up! Only it is not just vegan but also – let me check – ah, 16-free. You know, stuff like acetone isn’t harmful! And most of those ingredients aren’t even used anyways nowadays, maybe they were used like 15 years ago but not today. So to me, this nail polish seems like a gimmick. This nail polish was available in 21 colours on Notino and there were some really nice shades to choose, particularly beige! But I decided to go off the beaten path and choose a colour I rarely wear: light sky blue. How much am I going to like it? Eh, I don’t really care; I was initially excited for it but that all deflated after the catastrophe of Color Foil so I guess I will try this out. I am not thrilled at all though. Anyways, let’s see whether this nail polish is as bad as all the previous Sally Hansens...

Packaging: curvy glass bottle. It is pretty heavy. The text and the cap are white, which, while it may be slightly harder to read, is a fabulous colour to use with this light azure blue. It’s such a calming combination! There really isn’t anything in terms of details here, that’s okay. The cap closes extremely tightly, which prevents the nail polish from drying out too soon. Quite a simple design, though the shape of the bottle is interesting. It’s plumpy.

Ingredients: nothing nourishing and 3-free (DBP, formaldehyde, toluene). You know, for claiming to be all “16-free”, this is a rather typical ingredients list for the most part. I compared it to Catrice’s nail polishes and it is mostly the same. I also compared it to Essies, but that’s a luxurious formula so it obviously differs a lot. Upon further research, literally almost everything they named in the “16-free” claim has already been banned in Europe. I have no idea what they use in nail polishes over across the Pond, but for European nail polishes, this is a very standard composition. Gimmick. The scent is similar to most nail polishes, though slightly more vinegary. The nail polish develops an odd citric acid kind of scent after it dries, which is but one of many weird and unnecessary things with this nail polish, you’ll see. The expiration date is 30 months after opening – rather long for something so “natural”.

Colour: well, this is definitely a light blue, that much is certain. Well, azure, but still. In terms of named colours, it is like a slightly more blue Uranian blue, or a lighter ruddy blue. This is a soft, powdery kind of light blue that retains quite a lot of vibrancy, so it is not at all pale like it could have been. Instead, it is vibrantly light blue, which is a refreshing colour to see on my nails. I very rarely wear these kinds of colours but I kinda like this colour. Yes, it might not be the best solution for my skin, but it is still pretty. I love how it has no green pigments, so it is a very cool colour, that is awesome for spring or winter. It looks like it has white undertones, this is likely why it looks so gentle. This colour really pops on my pale skin and, honestly, I do believe it looks its best on light or pale skin.

It was also doubly fun because I was wearing a sweatshirt at home that was literally the same colour – I swear I didn’t plan this out! It was just a coincidence but a mighty good one! Now, I don’t know how much this is a crystally colour, but I still like it nonetheless.

Brush: pretty standard small flat brush with curved ends, though it looks like it is not in the best shape. The hairs look coarse and too thick, like they are poor quality. Judging by the Sally Hansens so far, this would be a fair assessment. The brush is... okay, I guess. It’s far from the worst brush ever, but it is really not that great. It picks up a huge amount of polish but it isn’t way too much like it usually is, so I didn’t bother tapping off the excess on quite a few of the nails, and it wasn’t a huge blob of polish. The brush struggles to spread it evenly, though it does its best given the trash formula. Nail polish ends up being quite uneven and messy. It doesn’t matter that the brush is smaller, it still makes a huge mess on the skin around the nails. So yeah, it is frustrating to use. Really not fun.

This is a weird formula. It is way too thick but it doesn’t feel creamy. It actually feels weirdly... powdery? Like, it feels kinda dry. And it doesn’t apply evenly at all, so it is really a hassle to use. However, since it is so thick and dry, it is not runny, so at least it won’t slide off the nails. I really don’t like this formula. I just don’t get why make such a weird formula when the normal kid of formula works well. It applies so patchy, in fact, that there are some bare areas – and I applied a pretty liberal amount of polish. Also, it dries very weirdly. Like, it looks like it is starting to crack while drying, and it becomes weirdly matte. Ugh. This is a disaster already. It’s only gonna get worse, isn’t it? Ah, right, it is weird because it lacks so many of the – arguably crucial – ingredients a nail polish should have.

I am happy that it is 3-free, but obviously taking most of the stuff out is not working. And I don’t get it, even on Reddit, this range looks fine on nails – then why is my bottle drying so goddamn weird? And why is it so weirdly powdery? Gah. I hate this already... and I was actually excited for this one specifically.

One coat is atrocious. I don’t even know where to begin with it. Firstly, it is horribly uneven, with some parts being actually bare. Bare as in ‘no nail polish’... and I went over them 3 times with the brush! How the hell does this happen? And it wasn’t present initially, only once the nail polish started drying. Secondly, it looks very odd, like it’s got a powdery finish, but this isn’t supposed to be a matte nail polish I don’t think. Thirdly, it is way too sheer, so it just looks sickly bluish.  So yeah, it desperately needs more layers. With a second – thick – coat, it is opaque and the colour looks good. It is completely opaque, even. The colour looks intense and bright like it should, and it is completely even now

But... and this angers me to no end: it has some weird flecks in the nail polish that look literally like grains of sand. I get that it is called “Crystal Blue” but this isn’t giving crystal, it is giving crap formula. Ugh. So while it is nice and even and thick now, it still looks bad because of those specks. Oh and don’t bother applying a third coat, it is already pretty thick with two; three would only make things worse. The texture is supposed to be glossy I think, and yeah, it is glossy, but the specks get in the way of the gloss... at least it isn’t that extremely weird powdery matte it was with one coat, though it does feel powdery to some degree after it dries. Guess I should be grateful that it’s just that...

Also, I cannot tell what is scratches/damage and what is these specks, so if it is supposed to look like this so that it is “crystal-like”... they didn’t do a good job. Because this doesn’t look like crystals one bit.

Oh here we go. Day 2 and already a chip. Just absolutely freaking incredible. Sigh. Though, it seems like this nail polish didn’t get too scratched up initially. It does get covered in scratches after a few days of wear... I think? It’s hard to determine what is the weird texture and what is damage. It has become much more matte though, which is usually a sign of scratches. Here though? I have no bloody idea. So, I had this polish on for 5 days and honestly, I am surprised by the longevity. After that initial small chip, it actually stayed in pretty much the same shape! It didn’t really chip until day 4, when I noticed a couple more chips that are just like that first one. But there are no huge chips, which is what I was expecting 1000%.

Huh. Well, would you look at that. So this actually is durable, huh? And even after a hair wash, I didn’t have many chips, either. It did suffer some damage, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. So it actually has great longevity, the scratches/flecks notwithstanding. Interesting turn of events.

Ah here we go. This nail polish is a nightmare to remove. Okay, yeah, I didn’t use the Express remover, but it still shouldn’t be this hard to remove. It is behaving like a super glittery nail polish when removing it when it’s clearly not. I had to go for 5-6 passes before I was finally able to fully remove it. The first two passes did not even break through the top layer! Needless to say, this isn’t good for the health of the nails. Somehow, I was able to avoid having brittle, dry nails, but I may not be as lucky the next time. Oh, also, it is hella annoying how this nail polish leaves a bunch of tiny little glitter on the nails. I couldn’t be bothered to clean that up with another pass with remover, so I just buffed it out with a buffing block. Yet, despite all that glitter that is apparently inside, it looks very flat and non-glittery.

So, all the drawbacks of glitter with none of the benefits. Anyways, I am just glad my nails aren’t yellower than before. Light blue nail polishes have discoloured my nails in the past so it is good that this one doesn’t. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is extremely annoying to remove.

All in all, what, can’t Sally Hansen make one good quality nail polish? Because all the ones I have tried thus far have been, well... not great. Not great at all. Case in point, this nail polish! Like, I get it is all “natural” blah, blah, but it is just bad. It’s like it’s different just for the sake of being different, not because that would lead to a better nail polish. Take, for example, the formula. This is where the weirdness is most obvious: it feels powdery yet also very thick, and it dries down into a kinda matte finish. It also develops these little flecks that boggle the mind. Like, what the hell are those even??? The formula honestly feels damaging to the nails, like it is severely drying them out. And you have to apply two coats for it to look at all presentable, so you are adding more if this horrendous formula. See, it is horribly patchy and uneven with one coat, so two are absolutely necessary. And the brush does not help matter at all: it is messy and applies the (trash) formula unevenly, so it’s not even fun to paint my nails. It’s just frustrating. Just like it’s frustrating how those specks ruin the glossy finish. Oh yeah, it becomes glossy with two coats. Why? How? After it was so matte with one? Beats me, but I prefer this texture. Just wish it wasn’t ruined by either scratches or those specks. However, one thing I cannot complain about is the longevity. It really does last a super long time, barely chipping at all during the 5 days I was testing it. Even a hair wash didn’t cause significant damage. The other good thing here is the colour. I really like this light blue, it is so calm and pure! It’s got white undertones, which add to this pastel kind of appearance. Now, I am still not too used to seeing these light blues on my nails, but it actually is rather lovely. Perfect for spring, anyways. But is it “crystal” blue? I wouldn’t say so, because there isn’t any visible glitter or anything resembling crystals. But there is glitter in the formula! Oh there is! This becomes evident once you go remove this nail polish and suddenly, you notice that your nails are covered in fine glitter. Frankly, this nail polish sucks. Yeah, it lasts long, but it has so many issues. And some of them are honestly just baffling. This is what I meant by “being different for difference’s sake”. This isn’t innovation, this is just try-hard behaviour to be “green” while still being a mass-produced brand. See the disconnect? Anyways, I want this to be done already, so let me end this. No, I will not recommend this nail polish. It sucks. I’m done.
