Balea Hydrogel Augenpads mit Hyaluron, Passionsfrucht-Extrakt und Koffein Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - April 20, 2025

More eye patches! This time, it’s the Balea Hydrogel Augenpads mit Hyaluron, Passionsfrucht-Extrakt und Koffein (Hydrogel Eye Patches with Hyaluronic Acid, Maracuja Extract and Caffeine, in English)!

I used to be a skeptic regarding eye patches; I used to think that they couldn’t possibly heal the delicate skin of the undereye area significantly. But, as sleep became a precious commodity, I realised that I do, actually, need to start using eye patches. If for nothing else, then for hydration. These eye patches look so interesting to me! Not only do they have caffeine and maracuja extract, but they are also coloured like maracuja – that’s so fun! So I figured “why not try them”? Surely, they’ll be good, right?

Packaging: plastic sachet, as usual. However, it is clear in the front, allowing you to see the patches inside. The back of the sachet is dark purple, like a maracuja purple. Very fitting! The text is white so it’s very easy to read; the text in the front is purple to match the colour of the patches. But this isn’t all, there’s a gorgeous illustration of Passiflora flowers and fruit! All Balea eye patches come with appropriate designs in the front, but this one is particularly yummy looking! And those Passiflora flowers are so beautiful... I remember having Passiflora on my balcony, it was nice having those huge flowers bloom! This is supposed to be torn in order to open it, but it is very hard to tear, so I usually have to use scissors.

Ingredients: glycerine, hyaluronic acid, passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) fruit extract, proline for nourishment. No parabens. I... don’t see caffeine anywhere? Idk. There’s also glucomannan and Irish moss extract, which contains carrageenan. The scent is way too yummy! It is decently intense, but I don’t mind this because it smells literally like fresh maracuja! It’s that sweet, tropical scent that passion fruit has that is distinctly summery and tropical, and boy do I love it! Unfortunately, the scent isn’t really noticeable while the eye patches are on... but maybe that’s a good thing actually, it would definitely make me hungry! The expiration date is, of course, nowhere to be found, but that is standard for Balea. The patches should be left on for 15-20 minutes, which is quite long, but at least I’ll get to enjoy the tropical scent for a decent amount of time!

Aren’t these patches so fun? They certainly look fun with their duo tone colour! I love how they’re orange/purple, which is, of course, the colour of maracuja! Very fitting! They feel very gelatinous, and indeed, are easy to damage with nails. So be careful how you remove them from the sachet. They are huge on my face, but then again, almost all eye patches are. They feel gentle on the skin, as they don’t tug at the skin. Oh man, these patches really stick to my skin! Awesome! Once I put them on, they don’t budge!

This all is quite different to how hydrogel usually is on me; usually it slips all around and doesn’t feel comfortable. But these are great! Just a shame they don’t seem to have a lot of serum inside them...

The serum is watery and quite lightweight. It feels silky soft, although it is a bit tacky at first. It dries to a velvety soft finish, though. The serum certainly feels hydrating, but I do wish there was more serum, these Balea eye patches never seem to have enough serum...

Oh, I can definitely feel the caffeine! These patches feel super energising and reinvigorating! It’s waking up my skin... when it’s supposed to go to sleep haha! And there’s a very pleasant chilling sensation that doesn’t feel like menthol; it feels relaxing and very nice, especially after a long, difficult day. It doesn’t feel particularly hydrating, but I’ll take the soothing cooling feeling. Also, at some points, the caffeine felt a bit too aggressive and seemed like it would cause an irritated reaction; fortunately, this goes away after a few minutes.

Ooohmy undereye definitely looks much better after using these patches! It certainly feels healthier; it feels very hydrated and balanced, and a bit more awake. Also, slightly firmer. And it looks great, too! Nothing will get rid of the dark circles, of course, but my skin definitely looks plumper and softer. It looks like it’s slightly firmer and more hydrated, but it feels more hydrated than it looks. I was anxiously waiting the results... I am so happy that my skin accepted these patches and is happy with the serum. Phew – now I can go to sleep peacefully, knowing that my skin has gotten a vitamin shot that should help it regenerate overnight.

My skin still looks very good the next morning; it is still plump and hydrated and there’s less dark circles under the eyes. This is excellent, given that I had a horrible night of sleep the night before, but, despite that, my skin still looks healthy and happy!

All in all, oh these are very good eye patches! Sometimes Balea eye patches can be meh, but these are quite good, fortunately. They have passion fruit (maracuja) extract, but they have also obviously been inspired by maracuja as well; there’s a beautiful illustration of Passiflora blossoms and fruit on the sachet, and the eye patches themselves are coloured like maracuja: purple/orange! This will always be an awesome combination of colours, even if it does evoke Halloween. But that’s not all – these patches smell like maracuja, too! It’s such a juicy, delicious scent, not at all synthetic or plasticy. Now this, I did not expect! And the hydrogel actually manages to stay on the skin... yeah, it doesn’t slide all around! I have had so many issues with this in the past, so many, in fact, that I started to loathe hydrogel as a material. But these are nothing like many other hydrogel patches, these stick and don’t budge. And they feel light and comfy on my skin... it’s just a shame that there isn’t enough serum in the sachet. I guess it’s an alright amount, but I would like more. After being on the skin for about 20 minutes, they can be removed; I did not expect my skin to look this hydrated and awake! My undereye feels hydrated, firmer, and looks more radiant than before. Yes! This is exactly what I needed! So, as you can see, these patches show actual visible results, which last well into the next morning (if you apply them before bed like I do). Now, these results aren’t spectacular, but they are visible and good, and that’s more than enough for me. So yeah, I will recommend these eye patches – they are affordable and good! And now I crave passion fruit...
