Avon Crushed Crystals Sunset Beats Nail Enamel [Flamingo] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - April 28, 2025

I was browsing the Focus brochure and the demo offers had this summer themed makeup set, which included some eye kajals, an eyeshadow palette, some highlighters and this line of nail polishes. Originally, I thought this would be a metallic nail polish, judging by the pictures in the brochure; I found out later that this is actually a limited edition Crushed Crystals set. Let’s be honest, I would have bought the polish anyway since the shade is called Flamingo and I adore flamingos, but learning that it’s actually Crushed Crystals made me want it even more, since I absolutely love those polishes. I already have two Crushed Crystals polishes and they are phenomenal, so here’s hoping this one will continue the trend!

Packaging: this polish arrived in a black cardboard packaging that had all the information about the polish. Inside the black packaging was this large nail polish bottle. The bottle is a rectangular clear glass one, and feels pretty heavy. The cap is black and can be sealed extremely tightly, so much that I struggle to open it, even! So you definitely needn’t worry about it spilling.

Ingredients: 3-free (DBP, formaldehyde, toluene) and nothing nourishing. The scent is like most nail polishes, although it is a bit more intense. The expiration date is 36 months after opening.

This is a magenta coloured nail polish that has silver glitter in it in varying sizes. The glitter is tiny and looks like silver dust for the most part, but there are large pieces of it as well. The colour is extremely intense and looks pretty nice on pale skin. I really like the glitter, even though I had initially thought it wouldn’t look good because of the big pieces of glitter. I thought it would look tacky, but instead, it looks fancy and cool.

The brush is a long round brush that is absolutely fantastic! It’s so easy to use, and it picks up a huge amount of polish, waaay more than you actually need. It’s big enough to coat the entire nail in just one or two swipes but is still precise enough to not get a lot of it outside your nails. Avon very rarely disappoints with the brushes they use for their nail polishes, and this one is no exception!

The formula is quite curious: it’s watery at first, but then it becomes almost creamy and gelly. It is a wonderful formula to work with though, as it is extremely easy to spread on nails evenly. It also feels very light, despite having a ton of little glitter in it, and two coats still feel really light on nails. Speaking of which, one coat is pretty much opaque and wonderfully even looking, so you could stop at that. Or you could apply a second coat which adds to the beauty of the crystal-like glitter, it will look thicker and just better all-around. I would stop there though, no need for 3 or more coats. The texture is well, glittery and sparkly, but the polish itself is matte, so you get this wonderful mixture of matte and glitter that looks so beautiful!

It also feels extremely rough and coarse, and it can get caught on clothes (tights or knitwear for example) due to the large glitter. I actually really like that it’s so textured and rough, it just feels fun to touch! Although I do tend to smooth it out on the free edges of nails by rubbing it subconsciously.

The longevity is amazing... except when you go do house-work that includes harsh chemicals (Sanytol, Domestos, and the like). It was virtually impervious to any kind of damage for the first 3 days, and no matter what I did it stayed in perfect condition. Even if I tried to scratch it intentionally there wouldn’t be any scratches. So, it’s ridiculously long-lasting. Problems arose when I went to clean my (late, RIP, you beautiful critter ;-; ) turtle’s terrarium (well, one of them, at least): the disinfectant chemicals caused the polish to start chipping off in large chunks. By the end of the cleaning my nails looked pretty ugly with the half chipped polish. Surprisingly, washing my hair did not worsen the problem, as they stayed more or less the same as the previous day. Moral of the story: try to stay away from Domestos when you are wearing any nail polish, including this one.

Interestingly enough, unlike other glitters nail polishes, this polish is terrifically easy to remove. I didn’t have to scrub hard at all to remove it entirely from my nails. And there wasn’t a lot of leftover glitter on my fingers, only a few of the bigger pieces remained. Such a huge surprise! There was also no staining of nails, despite being so intensely magenta.

All in all: just like the other Crushed Crystals, this one is equally amazing! The colour is surprisingly gorgeous and the glitter isn’t overwhelming, despite seeming like it might be from what it looked like in the bottle. The formula is lovely, creamy and so easy to use! I also love that it’s pigmented enough and even enough that just one coat is perfectly opaque. Two coats makes it look really luxurious! The longevity is astounding in general, although harsh chemicals destroy it. That shouldn’t be a surprise anyways, as harsh disinfectants tend to destroy most, if not all, of the polishes I own, regardless of the brand. Literally nothing can scratch it or damage it! Try scratching at it, or grabbing stuff with your nails, go ahead! Nothing bad will happen, I promise! The coarse, rough texture is also really cool to me, and I love to touch it to feel the rough glitter! Just note that it can get caught on clothing, particularly if it’s knitwear or nylons. I am super happy with this polish so it will get a definite recommendation from me!
