You know what goes best after washing yourself with the
Lavender Calm Hand Wash? A similarly lavender-scented hand cream! Like the Avon
Lavender Delight Hand Cream!
Lavender is one plant that I rely on for soothing, be that
mental soothing, emotional soothing or physical soothing. I even use it
sometimes to help me fall asleep (though chronic insomnia is pretty much
resistant to this)! Lavender also soothes period cramps, so, as someone who has
crippling cramps every month, I am constantly looking for new lavender products
that would help me. So, as you can imagine, I ordered this cream from the Avon
catalogue as soon as I saw it. I already used other lavender products from Avon
and they were amazing, so I had no reason to feel like this cream would be any
different. I can already imagine it: I apply this cream as I go to bed, and the
soothing scent of lavender calms down my body and mind, helping me get some
precious sleep... that would be awesome! But let’s see how good this cream
actually is!
Packaging: ah, look at that sprig of lavender! I cannot wait
to smell it – it must smell just as good! The deep purple colour matches the
lavender flowers perfectly, brassy golden text and cap is the perfect choice.
After all, you cannot go wrong with gold and purple. The design is minimalistic
aside from the giant flowers all across the front. I like this design, it gets
the point across that this is a lavender hand cream loud and clear! The back is
where all the information is, and it is in white text, so that it’s easy to
read. It’s a very cohesive, cool design, and it feels robust enough. The cap
closes pretty securely, but it always seems like it’s not entirely 100% closed.
Maybe it’s just me. And it doesn’t click nicely. But still, quite a pretty
tube, is it not?
Ingredients: wait... where is the lavender oil??? I’m
looking at the ingredients list and I see absolutely no mention of lavender
anywhere. And it’s not hidden in the perfume compounds in the end, because lavender
essential oil does not contain geraniol, citral or coumarin in any significant
portion. What a rip-off. Gee, I wonder if this will affect its performance...
of course it will. Because the only even remotely caring ingredient here is the
urea, but that is nothing. And it also has methylparaben for whatever goddamn
reason. Freaking fantastic. The scent is... wait, what is this?? This ain’t
lavender! Not really. I mean, I can smell the lavender somewhere in there, but the
musk is far more dominant. Yeah, this is a very sharp, aggressive scent. It is
supposed to be soothing, but it is actually more refreshing to me. Like, it is
more likely to wake me up than put me to sleep... which was the primary reason
I ever bought this cream that just keeps getting more and more disappointing as
I go. Fortunately, the musk scent doesn’t take long to dissipate, and then the
lavender takes over. But it still doesn’t really smell lavender-ish. Like,
there’s something off about it. It honestly smells like men’s shower gel. This
isn’t what I wanted... not even remotely. And it kinds smells synthetic...
which isn’t surprising – lavender extract would have really helped here, no?! Argh.
The expiration date is 12 months after opening.
Colour: pure white, nothing special.
I don’t mind this formula, though it could be slightly
thicker. It’s relatively thin, and at some points even feels a bit watery, but
it’s also really greasy. But it’s a thin kind of grease. The formula absorbs
rapidly, leaving behind a... tacky residue? Ew, that’s not good. However, it
does not leave white streaks on the skin. The formula is quite lightweight –
perhaps even too lightweight. After it absorbs, it becomes so lightweight that
I literally cannot even tell that it’s there. I might actually be able to use
this during the day, now that I think about it, it’s definitely light enough.
So, the very first thing I feel when I apply this cream is
that it feels slippery. That’s because it is very greasy. Then, after that, it becomes
tacky, which is awful. Luckily, that disappears after a few minutes, and my
skin feels really soft then. But I don’t really feel any hydration or a calming
feeling or anything. My skin is just soft to touch and... that’s it?
I cannot say that this cream does much of anything, sadly.
It may be slightly hydrating at first, but this hydration disappears by morning
(side note: I apply hand creams at bedtime because I have the feeling of greasy
hands during the day). It certainly
cannot heal the dry parts on my hands, not even a little bit. I wake up and my
hands are still scaly and cracked and extremely dry. So what exactly is it
doing? It seems that “nothing” is the answer. Maybe it would be better for skin
that isn’t in such a bad condition. But I am very disappointed. Lavender should
be better than this... oh right – there is no lavender here! So of course that
the results would be crap...
Overall, I am not impressed with this hand cream. What I was
expecting was a hydrating cream that would lull me to sleep with the soothing
smell of lavender; what I got instead is a cream that doesn’t seem to help my
skin all that much and that... doesn’t smell right. It doesn’t smell like it’s
gone bad, I just didn’t expect this musky smell to overpower the lavender. In
honesty, it smells almost like men’s shower gel, which isn’t horrible, but I
just don’t like it. I don’t vibe with it. And it is not as calming for my skin
(or senses) as I would like it to be. While it does make the skin softer for
some time, it cannot heal any real dryness. So it is useless for whatever this
psoriasis is on my hands. When I wake up, most of it is gone, so my hands feel
slightly dry again. However, the formula is wonderfully silky and absorbs
rapidly. I could imagine using this cream during the day, it seems to be light
enough. Indeed, it doesn’t feel horribly greasy on my hands after it absorbs,
just soft and silky creamy... guess that should have tipped me off to it being
too weak for my dry skin. Such a shame... I was really looking forward to this.
The lavender-scented pillow spray was incredibly soothing and just perfect, why
couldn’t this be just... that? Ah, I am so disappointed... oh, did I also
mention that this hand cream does not actually have lavender in it? Yeah, that
was a complete scam. No, I am not going to recommend this cream; the scent is
too unisex and the effects aren’t noteworthy enough. And I am angry over it not
having lavender at all. Sad...
