So, the only review for this week! This is the Balea Vitamin
C Maske!
I didn’t actually buy this mask, my mother did. I didn’t ask
her to, she just came home one day and was like: “here, this is yours”. So I
took it, though I wasn’t really looking forward to it all that much as I didn’t
really use vitamin C. then Now if it were tea tree or salicylic acid or niacinamide,
then we’d be talking! But I still feel like it’s my duty to review it, even if
I didn’t spend my own money on it. So, let’s see whether it is any good!
Packaging: just a simple aluminium sachet that’s orange
like oranges. There’s no fancy print or anything, just an abstract orange
blurred print. The text is white in the front, and black in the back, where
you’ll find information about this mask. This mask is designed for two uses,
with the two sachets being perforated in the middle, between them. So it can
last for up to two weeks, depending on whether you use it once or twice a week.
Ingredients: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, niacinamide/vitamin
B3, vitamin C (as sodium ascorbyl phosphate), orange (Citrus aurantium dulcis)
fruit extract for nourishment. No parabens. The shea butter is going to play a
role in how comfortable the formula is on the skin. I see that vitamin C and orange
extract (natural source of vitamin C, of course) are midway through the ingredients list,
which means that there isn’t a whole lot of them. For a vitamin C mask, I would
expect it to be closer to the start, indicating a larger concentration. Anyway,
the scent is intense, but actually pleasant. It’s an incredibly fresh and
refreshingly citrusy scent, just like oranges! I don’t usually like citrusy
scents but I like how this one just smells so fresh, and not just sour and
citrusy! The expiration date is listed as a real date. This mask should be left on for 10-15 min, which is an okay amount of time, not too long or too short.
The formula is very smooth and creamy but also incredibly
greasy. It’s far too greasy for me, though it isn’t as heavy as you might
assume based on the greasiness. It might suit drier skin types better.
There is an interesting refreshing, slightly pinching
sensation while the serum is absorbing into the skin. It’s quite a citrusy
feeling, which makes sense for a vitamin C mask! There’s also a noticeable
heaviness to the serum while it’s being absorbed, like there’s a thick sheet
over the face. The refreshing, citrusy feeling is good, but, in general, this
isn’t a terribly comfortable mask.
So, this mask is supposed to only be wiped off gently,
without rinsing it. It’s far too thick and greasy to let it just sit like that
on my already oily skin. So I gently rinsed it off with a cotton pad, letting
some residue remain overnight. By the time the 14 minutes were over, the mask
had become very tight and uncomfortable, so that is another reason why I had to
rinse it off.
In terms of results, they are actually pretty great! My skin
feels refreshed and clean, and it looks really good! It’s much brighter, with
an even tone tone to it, and just looks way more balanced in general. The dark
areas under my eyes are noticeably brighter and look healthier. While it
doesn’t necessarily reduce the appearance of blemishes, it seems to slightly
calm them down, making them slightly less inflamed. I am assuming that’s the
handiwork of niacinamide, a known soothing, balancing ingredient.
But, since I
rinsed the mask off, instead of letting it stay overnight, my skin was also
completely matte, which I like. It did not look sickly matte, but more like a
balanced matte. I also like how smaller my pores are after using this mask. I
honestly thought for sure that there wouldn’t be any real results, but looks
like I was about as wrong you can be wrong! Fantastic results that really blew
my mind, despite vitamin C being relatively low on the ingredients list!
The next morning my skin still looks bright and healthy!
There’s noticeably less sebum than usual in the morning. Blemishes are also a
tiny bit less inflamed. My skin was really fresh and awake, or at least that’s
what it looked like!
In conclusion, I really did not have any expectations prior
to using this mask. If anything, I thought it would be mostly useless, with
barely any results. Not because of how cheap it is, but because there has been
a good deal of Balea masks that don’t do much. Instead, it turns out that this
mask really makes the skin look radiant, awake and refreshed, with a very even
tone to it (thanks niacinamide for that!). It does not cause any irritations,
despite me never using any potent vitamin C products before this mask. Vitamin C can
cause skin flaking and irritation if you start off with a too strong dose, but
this mask, it seems, has a moderate dose of vitamin C so that even vitamin C
newbies can enjoy it. And the effect lasts until well into the next day (if you
apply it overnight, that is), keeping your skin bright and fresh! The scent is
relatively intense and, instead of smelling extremely lemony or sour, it smells
incredibly fresh, like a breeze, with a hint of oranges. Look, I don’t really
like citrusy scents, but even I like this one. Now, that was the good, there
is, of course, the bad, too. The mask is terribly greasy and heavy, I suspect
that shea butter being so close to the top of the ingredients list has
something to do with this. However, that greasiness means that it’s super easy
to spread on the face. While drying it becomes even heavier and even worse, it
starts to feel tight and constricting. If you were to follow instructions to
the letter, you wouldn’t rinse or remove this mask, only gently remove the
excess with a cotton pad. That’s sadly impossible for me as it literally feels
like it’s suffocating my skin, so I gently rinsed it off with a cotton pad. And
see, even if you go counter to what you should do, the results are still
exceptional! A real fricking surprise this mask, in all the best ways! I will
recommend it, despite it being so greasy and heavy... the results are just too
good not to.
