Balea Tropical Dream Maske Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - November 30, 2024

The only review today, and it’s a Balea Tropical Dream Maske!

I keep buying these small Balea face masks, even though they often aren’t very good. I guess I keep hoping that one of them will be good, one day. This mask looks like it could be very hydrating, I mean, it does have watermelon and starfruit extract! And the packaging is so summery and fun! Well, time to see what it is like, actually!

Packaging: metal sachet that is divided into two sections, so that you have two uses. The perforations make it easy to tear it down the middle, but it is quite hard to open each individual section. I usually have to use scissors or a razor blade to cut it open. I love the design of the sachets; it is so vibrant and tropical and summery! The large watermelons and starfruit look so delicious! And the vibrant fuchsia colour of the sachets is the perfect combo to make it all look even more summery and fun! All the information is in the back; the text is white, so it is easy to read.

Ingredients: glycerine, apricot (Prunus armeniaca) kernel oil, panthenol/provitamin B5, starfuit (Averrhoa carambola) fruit extract, watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) fruit extract, vitamin E for nourishment. No parabens. The scent is not nice... it smells greasy. Like oil or grease. I thought it would have a tropical, fruity scent... this is such a disappointment. The expiration date is, as usual, nowhere to be found, so who knows, it might have already expired for all I know. This mask has to be left on for 10-15 minutes, and then it should be either massaged into the skin or the excess should be removed with a cotton pad. I normally gently wash off the excess with a moist cotton pad, but this time I will just use a dry cotton pad to absorb the excess. We’ll see if this is better.

There’s really way too much serum inside the sachet; I used less than half and it was still pretty thick on my face. The serum is light peachy pink in colour, but that isn’t really visible on my skin.

The formula is extremely greasy and slippery. It is way too greasy for my already oily skin... but at least it doesn’t feel heavy. In fact, it feels quite lightweight! It is easy to spread it across the face evenly because of how greasy it is. I don’t know, it just feels cheap and not high quality...

Oh my, I don’t like this. The very first thing I feel is stinging, as soon as I spread the mask over my face. Particularly on the lower half of my face, where I have been applying adapalene and benzoyl peroxide, which has made my skin quite reactive and even more sensitive than usual. It feels like it’s causing a severe reaction, and my skin does actually look slightly more red. But this lasts for maybe 30 seconds, and then it calms down.

I don’t really feel much of anything once it calms down... it just feels like a layer of grease over my skin. But it doesn’t feel occlusive, so that is very nice. Still, it doesn’t feel purifying or hydrating or anything else besides maybe a bit warm and reactive. Meh.

The immediate results are not at all impressive. Actually, I don’t think I see much of a difference either way, positive or negative. I guess I am glad that there are no long-lasting irritations like I thought there would be with that initial prickly sensation. But I still wish there was some difference, you know? My skin doesn't look more hydrated or nourished or anything really, but it also doesn’t look dried out. It feels just a bit more hydrated, that’s really all that I can feel.

Note that any redness around my nose area isn’t caused by this mask; this is just adapalene making my skin red when I put just about anything on my face.

The next day, my skin still looks okay. Sweaty and oily, yes, but summer’s to blame for that; summers in Croatia have become hideously hot, as if we are in the Middle East, not continental Europe... anyways. No change for the worse nor for the better, it’s like I haven’t used anything. I am happy that I didn’t breakout from this mask, though.

All in all, a big load of..  nothing, really. It’s like I haven’t used any mask at all; my skin looks exactly the same before and after using the mask, there’s no improvement at all. The formula is way too greasy, but it, surprisingly, doesn’t feel heavy. I don’t like the warm sensation that starts immediately after applying the mask; it feels like it’s going to cause a horrible irritation. Only, it doesn’t. The irritation stops a few minutes later, and after that I barely feel anything while the mask is absorbing. And then, after removing the excess with a dry cotton pad, I can only feel maybe a little bit of hydration. But besides that, it has no effects on my skin, be it ones that would be visible, or ones that I would feel. Shrugs. I am happy that it didn’t cause any irritations or breakouts, but what’s the point of using it when it literally has no results? The only reason it isn’t getting a lower score is because it doesn’t cause irritations, but, really, it ought to be much, much more hydrating. Oh, and it smells greasy. So I cannot even enjoy a nice tropical fruit scent while it is absorbing... wonderful. I really don’t like this mask, it is so disappointing. No recommendation, but who’s surprised at this point...
