Misslyn Treat Me Sweet Powder Blush [08 - Be My Flamingo Forever!] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - August 29, 2024
Now, the only product this week that isn’t some kind of
brush; this is the Misslyn Treat Me Sweet Powder Blush, shade 08/Be My Flamingo
Forever!
Aww, I would love to be its flamingo forever! This is the
main reason why I bought this specific shade, and why I even bought this blush
in the first place. I love flamingos, that much is pretty certain
(understatement of the millennium...), so I always try to find makeup products
that either have a flamingo theme, or a flamingo-inspired name, or are flamingo
coloured. So as soon as I saw the name, I knew I had to buy this blush, how
could I not?? Look at that retro packaging! Only, it was really difficult
finding one that wasn’t already opened and/or damaged because Müller was in the
process of removing Misslyn products, so they were on a significant discount. And
people love discounts, so the shelves were ravaged... I felt so lucky when I
found one that looked like it was intact. Phew! Now I have my flamingo blush,
yay! Let’s see how good it is, now that I finally have it!
As is usual for Misslyn products, this blush has a very fun
and retro packaging! It’s made of cardboard, but I don’t mind this when it
looks this cute and retro; it closes magnetically, to keep it as airtight as
possible, and it feels pretty good quality. There’s a small mirror inside, so
that you can see what you are doing in case you don’t have any other mirrors.
This is super useful! The pan for the blush itself is quite large; I can see
that this will last a very long time. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of info
here, you’ll have to go search the Web if you want to find it. I really don’t
like it when it’s like this because what if their website goes down
permanently? And if it isn’t archived on the Wayback Machine? Ugh... well, at
least there’s a helpful swatch of the blush inside to help you judge what it
would look like.
Now, let’s take a look at the design itself, because man is it
cute! The pink/white polkadot pattern is already very sweet, but the retro
illustration of a 1940's or 1950’s era woman? And it is made to look like a
comic book? So incredible! Also, I am pretty sure that each shade includes a
different illustration of a woman, each wearing that particular shade of blush.
Very neat detail! And in case you were wondering about the name, just look at
the thought bubble! Also, those sunglasses are fancy! I seriously love
this design, it’s just so incredible!
Ingredients: argan (Argania spinosa) kernel oil, vitamin E
for nourishment. No parabens. Interestingly, it has SPF ingredients as well! More
specifically, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (Avobenzone) and ethylhexyl
methoxycinnamate (Uvinul MC80). This offers the blush both UVA (Avobenzone) and
UVB (Uvinul MC80) protection, for broad protection against the harmful UV rays
of the Sun. This is really surprising to me... they didn’t have to add this,
but they did. Wow! The scent is subtle; it is powdery, slightly soapy. The
expiration date is 18 months after opening.
Colour: this blush range comes in 6 different shades, ranging
from very orangey peach, to a more nude colour, to roses and, finally, this peachy
pink, that really does look like flamingo feathers! I generally gravitate
towards more pinkish blushes, but I’ve found that peachy blushes also look very
good on my skin, and this is like a mix of both, so it should look good, right?
Well, it... does! Only, it takes on a more peachy, more orange colour on my
skin, when it looked almost magenta on the pictures online.
I don’t really mind
this colour, it’s a very nice summery colour, but it isn’t really for everyday
for me. And it doesn’t mix well with a lot of lip colours, so I have to be
picky when I use his blush. Still, it doesn’t look garish, even though it is
quite intense. It is definitely a flamingo colour, that much is certain! Idk,
it looks fairly natural on me, but it may look better on slightly darker skin.
This is a typical powdery blush, but it is super silky and
finely milled, so it looks natural on skin. Not like there’s an obvious layer
of colour on top of the skin.
As for the pigmentation? Oh, it’s there! It’s so pigmented
that even a light layer is enough to give me serious intensity, so I have to be
very careful how I apply it. Because of this, it is not very buildable; I
prefer blushes that I can build up to the level of intensity I want. Still,
it’s awesome that such an affordable blush can be so ridiculously richly
pigmented! And man does it look silky on the skin!
The formula of this blush is super silky, so that it melts
into the skin, giving you a natural-looking flush. It doesn’t look textured or
grainy, just super smooth and silky. I love this formula, it feels quite luxe,
actually! And it really is velvety like they claim!
The texture is matte, for the most part. It does seem to
have some extremely finely milled pink shimmer in some places, like, when I
look at my cheeks from a ¾ view, it looks like it has a slightly pink shine. Or
this may just be my skin’s sebum breaking through it when I apply it onto bare
skin. Possibly. I love this matte finish, it doesn’t emphasise pores or
texture, and it just looks so soft! And not dry at all! Amazing!
And guess what else? This blush is also extremely easy to
apply! It applies very intensely and quite evenly; no need to spend a lot of
time trying to get it to look right, it looks great from the very first swipe
with a brush. It doesn’t look patchy either, which has been a problem for me in
the past. No, it just looks smooth and soft and silky and just amazing! It also
blends very nicely, although it can be overblended a bit too easily, leading to
patchy areas. Fortunately, since it applies so nicely, you don’t really need to
mess with it any more, which prevents any overblending mishaps from happening. One
other thing that is nice: it doesn’t have a lot of fall-out while applying it.
It’s annoying when there’s a lot of fall-out, so I am very glad that there
isn’t any. I cannot believe it is so extremely easy to apply, and all for such
a low price, wow!
This blush is so lightweight that I cannot even feel it on
my cheeks! It’s so comfy and light, and I love how it just fuses with the skin.
It is suitable for sensitive skin as it doesn’t cause any irritations or
breakouts.
Longevity is pretty good on my oily skin. Nothing stops
sebum from breaking out on my skin, but it doesn’t look too bad after a couple
of hours. It still looks pretty even and quite good. Maybe a bit patchy in the
few spots where sebum broke through, but overall, I am very happy with how it
wears! It even manages to survive hot, sweaty days, which is no small feat!
Just
be aware that this blush is not at all water-resistant, so if your face gets
wet, it will wash off. But as long as the face is somewhat dry, it will have
quite good longevity, much better than what I thought it would have. Of course,
it will very likely wear much better on normal/combination skin, but I am
really happy that it can tolerate oily skin so well!
Removing this blush is as easy as can be! Just one swipe
with micellar water and it will be completely removed. No rubbing required!
In conclusion, what a lovely little blush! I had no idea
going in that it would be this good! I thought it would be decent, but that it
would require several layers until it is pigmented enough and that it would fade
pretty soon. But I was so wrong on both of those! This blush is super
pigmented, sometimes even too pigmented, because it can be tricky to apply a sheer
layer when it applies so richly and vibrantly! So, if you want your blush to be
seen, oh boy, this one will be seen! The colour perhaps isn’t the
most natural for me, it is a bit too brick or peach-like, but I find that it
blends very nicely with my bronzers and contouring so it looks pretty good in
the end. Intense, yes, but still good. I would like it more if it were more
pink, like it is on pictures of it online. But still, this is quite a
flamingo-like colour, so I am happy! And this blush treats you sweet – the
formula is so soft and silky, and it feels so velvety and smooth! A very easy
to use formula, just one swipe and it will (most of the time) be even and very
pigmented. So this is good to practice with if you aren’t skilled with blushes
yet. It feels invisibly lightweight, plus, it doesn’t cause breakouts or
irritations so it is suitable for sensitive skin. How long it lasts on the skin
depends, of course, on how oily your skin is, but it lasts at least 3-4 hours
on my very oily skin before it starts to look patchy from sebum breaking
through. Even on bare skin, it lasts a few hours before it starts to look
patchy. So, like, let me get this straight: it costs little, but it has
extremely intense pigmentation and applies so easily and
lasts a good time? What was I doing never trying this blush before?? It’s
amazing! Yeah, this will be my flamingo forever! I will happily recommend it
but Misslyn is damn near impossible to find these days; I actually think they
might have closed up shop... sad, because some of their things (like this
blush) were way better than they had any right to be... oh well, I’m glad I
managed to get this one blush before they were gone.
