Nivea Q10 Power Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Cream SPF15 Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - September 20, 2023

Hi!

First, let's take a look at a daily moisturiser! This is the Nivea Q10 Power Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Day Cream SPF15.

Nivea is a well-known brand, that much is certain. And their adverts are everywhere, on billboards, on the TV, everywhere. So, of course, I heard about the Q10 Power range of products a long time ago, I just never got around to using any of them because I thought my young skin didn’t need them. Well, now that I have developed fine expression lines, I think it’s high time I started doing something about them. I decided to buy this cream because I had faith in Nivea, surely their famous Q10 cream wouldn’t disappoint, right? Well, let’s see!

Packaging: a small cardboard box inside which is the cream. I managed to find a 20 mL cream, which is trial size, but perfect for what I needed it. So, the packaging might vary between this one and a larger 50 mL sized one. The cardboard box has that classic Nivea design. It’s an elegant design. Inside is the tiny little tub that contains the cream. The tub is white, with the only detail of note being the embossed Nivea logo on the lid. The lid closes really very tightly.

Ingredients: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, ubiquinone/co-enzyme Q10, creatine, vitamin E for nourishment. No parabens. This cream has SPF15, using the following sunscreen agents: ensulizole/phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid (UVB/minimal UVA), avobenzone/butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (UVA), ethylhexyl salicylate (UVB), bemotrizinol/bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine (UVA/UVB). As you can see, it’s got broad spectrum protection, with both effective UVA and UVB protection. However, it is just SPF15, I would suggest applying a stronger sunscreen on top of this cream, perhaps SPF30 or, better yet, SPF50. The scent is lovely, it smells creamy and aromatic, somewhat flowery. It’s not too intense but it is still noticeable. It’s a similar to what a lot of other Nivea creams smell like. It’s really nice, I like it. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening.

This cream is slightly yellowish, with a hint of light green, too. Interesting colour. The formula isn’t too bad, although it is a bit heavy for me. See, this is a pretty thick cream, it is heavy and almost waxy. Although it is easy to spread across the skin, it is definitely more waxy than creamy and soft. The heavy formula is the reason why I don’t apply this cream to my entire face, just my forehead and under my eyes.

I really think that my oily, acne-prone skin wouldn’t like having something so thick on top of it. So I just apply it where my expression lines are the worst. And a little really goes a long way, don’t use too much or it will be difficult to buff into the skin. Having said that, it doesn’t seem to pill much, if at all. I honestly think it’s the La-Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (+) that is pilling.

This cream has a weird, almost cast-like feeling on the skin from being so thick and heavy. It can feel a bit constricting at times, especially if you put a bit too much. However, there is also a very nice cooling sensation, for whatever reason! It really feels nice and soothing! But don’t expect this cream to absorb quickly, it takes a fair while to absorb into the skin, so make sure to give it at least 5 minutes before you apply anything on top. It was to be expected with this kind of formula!

Results, hmm... they aren’t spectacular, honestly! As I said, I apply this cream directly into the expression lines and pretty much nowhere else (of course, some amount gets on other parts of the face while buffing it in). And those lines don’t seem to be filled in or significantly reduced in any way. They do seem to have stopped getting worse, at least. However, my skin feels a bit calmer and significantly more nourished after applying this cream. I don’t know about it being 24h hydration, but it does last a good amount of time. My skin does look better, as advertised, and my undereye area in particular looks firmer, but it really doesn’t do all the wonders Nivea are promising! Perhaps my skin is just too oily or not yet mature enough, who knows.

At least I don’t get any breakouts from using this cream on my forehead and cheeks/undereye. On my chin would probably be a different story altogether, though!

All in all, not a bad cream, but not terribly good, on my skin at least. I have oily, acne-prone skin with visible expression lines, but it’s not yet mature skin. This cream is fairly thick and almost waxy at points, do be warned, so try to use as small an amount as possible! If you use too much it can start to feel like there’s a thick cast over your skin that takes a while to absorb. There’s a constricting feeling if you apply a thicker layer. I don’t know, it’s just not the kind of formula that I prefer, even though it definitely feels rich and nourishing. It did not pill on my skin, nor did it cause any irritations or breakouts. That said, I do only use it where my expression lines are the worst, i.e. my forehead and undereye. I take the smallest amount humanly possible and tap it on my skin and then buff it into my skin with a circular motion. Sometimes I will tap it repeatedly to really get it into my skin, especially if I am in a hurry. I don’t like how long it takes to absorb fully, but it’s not the worst, I guess. And I also don’t like that cast-like feeling, that heavy feeling in general. On the flip side, I really like the refreshing, cooling sensation that starts as soon as you let the cream absorb! It’s so nice and relaxing! How about the main reason I bought this cream, to help reduce wrinkles? Yeah, it doesn’t really do much regarding that. My expression lines still look pretty much the same, which, actually now that I think about it, might be good, actually. It means that this cream is preventing the wrinkles from becoming more deep-set. But besides that, no real results to speak of. Perhaps the results would be much more pronounced on more mature or drier skin. I am using this as prevention more than as a fix. And for that I guess it is good, good as any Q10 cream. I will keep using it, if only for the nourishing, cooling feeling and the fact that my skin is hydrated and nourished for quite a long time after applying the cream. Would I recommend it, though? Hmm.. I will recommend it as wrinkle prevention aid, and for more mature skin. I don’t think it works very good on young, oily, and problematic skin, sadly.
