Revolution Skincare Konjac Facial Cleansing Sponge Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - February 02, 2025

So, how about something nice for the skin? This is the Revolution Skincare Konjac Facial Cleansing Sponge!

Part of the Blemish range of products, designed to be used while you are battling active blemishes. This is a handy tool to use because it’s far cleaner than using your bare hands. And cleanliness is one of the most important aspects of successfully fighting blemishes, as, if any dirt gets into the blemish, it will make it more inflamed. So it’s of the utmost importance to keep the skin clean. I have been using konjac sponges for ages now, and I really don’t think I am going back! They keep my skin way more clean and allow products to penetrate deeper because they also massage the skin gently and open pores. This one piqued my interest partly because it is part of the Blemish range, partly because it supposedly is infused with charcoal, and partly because it seemed huge! And it’s not too expensive, either. So I bought it, hoping it would be just as good as the other konjac sponges I had used by then. Is it as good? Let’s see!

Packaging: it comes in a light blue cardboard box with a cut-out in the front so that you can see the sponge inside. You might think this will allow you to feel the sponge but nope! The sponge is additionally wrapped in an air-tight plastic wrap to keep it 100% hygienic. So I guess the window is to just see the colour of the sponge? Eh, it adds a nice touch to the otherwise quite clinical design. The light blue with white text really makes it look like a medicinal product! I like it! Although I will agree that it is a very sterile design. The plastic wrap can be a bit annoying to remove and you might end up damaging the sponge a little bit in the process. Still, I think that’s a fair trade-off for a proper hygienic seal.

As a konjac sponge it is made of... that’s right, konjac root. I know, it’s so weird, right? (/s) Anyways, this konjac sponge has been infused with charcoal, supposedly, giving it this charcoal gray colour. I like the shape of this konjac sponge; it has a teardrop shape, which is super handy for those harder to reach areas! The pointed tip is perfect for the sides of the nose, or for the undereye area... basically, any area that is tight and narrow. Round konjac sponges can be a bit tricky to use in tighter areas. But this one is the perfect shape! And it’s also quite large! It’s as big as the palm of my hand, which may not be saying much, as I have tiny hands, but still! I love large konjac sponges, they are the easiest ones to use by far!

This sponge did not smell like anything when I opened it, and it does not absorb smells. This is good, as it means that it can dry out properly. Which means less bacteria! Yay!

To preface this section, konjac sponges should be used wet. Never dry. There, now that that’s out of the way, this sponge is super hard and quite abrasive when dry, especially before it’s been washed at least once. Like I said, never use it when it’s this dry and abrasive. The first soak is going to take some time, so be patient. Although, this sponge doesn’t take too long to become soft during the first soak, it’s less than 10 minutes usually. All the subsequent uses will require you to only soak it for about a minute before it is ready to be used. Konjac sponges can be used with or without any additional cleansers, your choice.

They can effectively cleanse the skin all by themselves, although I prefer to use a gentle cleanser with them. All you have to do is soak the sponge until it expands and becomes soft, and then squeeze out (never wring out!) excess water and go with it over your face using circular motions. That will gently massage your skin, encouraging a healthy skin cycle. Just rinse and repeat until your face is clean. That’s it! It’s that simple. After you're done just squeeze out all the water that you can and hang it somewhere hygienic while it air dries. I love how easy to rinse out this sponge is, as it never absorbs cleanser. Which means that it stays hygienic for a lot longer!

I must say that this sponge is super soft but still feels lightly textured. The mixture of larger and smaller pores gives it this velvety, gentle effect. It is so relaxing to use! So I wake up and have a real zen experience while I am washing my face with this sponge. It is just a tiiiiny bit coarse, just enough to feel like it is gently scrubbing away dead skin cells. It does not feel like it truly exfoliates the skin, which is actually good, at least for my sensitive skin. I go over my entire face 3-4 times, which doesn’t feel like a chore; it’s actually super soothing and relaxing, but it also wakes me up. The gentle but coarse texture is perfect for oily/sensitive skin, so as you can imagine, my skin is very happy with it!

Now, is this sponge actually infused with charcoal? It is impossible to tell on the surface level, you’d have to do some kind of laboratory analysis. The colour would indicate that, yes, there is charcoal in this sponge, as konjac is naturally white. In any case, charcoal or not, it cleanses the skin wonderfully! The longer you use the sponge, the more even and naturally radiant your skin will become. The charcoal should help in the fight against blemishes, but if you have acne as bad as I do, you’ll know that much stronger stuff is needed than a simple sponge. After a few passes across my face, my skin is totally clean, and feels soft and cleansed from within. It also looks clean and matte. Now, with such a clean and even tone to my skin, it absorbs serums much better than if I had washed it with my hands alone. The large size makes it even easier to use as I can be done in literally a minute or two! Simply fantastic!

If you use the sponge daily, expect it to last about 2-3 months. I really wouldn’t use it much longer than that; remember, sponges are porous by nature, which makes them impossible to truly disinfect or clean 100%. So the longer you use them, the more dead skin cells there are, which can bring bacteria along with it. So, do yourself (and your skin) a favour and throw it away after 3 months, max. You don’t want to risk bacterial infections on your face, especially if you are already struggling with acne. I use them for 2 months, to be on the safe side. This sponge is still in perfect condition 2 months later, or 61 washes later, if you want to be precise. It is not showing any signs of falling apart, or any kind of deterioration in general. It’s also just as soft as the first day. I have heard others say that this sponge fell apart in the first few washes, I have never had that happen, across many sponges, now.

In conclusion, this is a fantastic konjac sponge; one of the best ones i have used so far (along with the Essence Cute As Shell Konjac Sponge)! It’s huge, at least for my small face, making it super easy to use. I can cleanse a huge portion of my face all at once thanks to the large size. It is very soft, but also gently coarse. The porous surface, with a mix of smaller and larger pores, makes sure your skin is gently exfoliated and that dead skin cells are thoroughly removed without damaging the epidermis. Seriously, it feels so zen and soothing to use because of the slightly coarse surface! It cleanses the skin so well that it is visibly clean and healthy. Over time, the skin develops a natural radiance from being cleaned effectively and gently every morning. It’s a much better way of cleansing the skin, trust me! I used to doubt the efficacy of konjac sponges, but having been using them for a loooong time now, they are definitely worth it! My skin’s surface is more even and acne tend to go away slightly faster than before I started using konjac sponges. This sponge is supposed to have charcoal, which should aid in the prevention of acne. I cannot verify whether it actually has charcoal or not, but I choose to believe it does. In any case, this sponge is excellent! I would highly recommend it, especially to those with acne-prone skin! You won’t regret buying it, trust me!
