Hello!
This is the Essence Cute as Shell Konjac Face Sponge, type
01/All About Shell-Care (there aren’t any other types, anyways)!
I was at Müller one day and noticed that they had a new
Essence display in the shelves. Most of it was already sold out, but there was
this adorable konjac sponge. Apparently, not as popular as the other products! I
thought it was super adorable, so I bought it. And since I use konjac sponges
daily, I knew it would be useful. But how good is it? Let’s see!
Packaging: It came in a plastic shell packaging with a
cardboard back, with the plastic taped to the cardboard. It’s a very simple
type of packaging, but one that allows you to see whether it had been tapered
with. I like the apricot colour of the cardboard, and I especially like the
cute little reflective gold seashells on the front! The text is white, which is
okay for an apricot coloured background. Black would’ve been better, but it
would’ve also been too dark. All in all, nice packaging!
This is a konjac sponge, so it is, naturally, made from
konjac root. This is a basic konjac sponge with no additives, such as charcoal
or red clay. Just your regular old white konjac sponge. But your regular old
konjac sponge in the shape of a scallop! It is not just a print, either! Each
of the ribs of the scallop's valve are ridged, so that they actually feel like
ribs when you touch them. The back of the sponge is flat, contrasting with the
3D surface of the front. They really went to great lengths to really make this sponge look like a scallop! Impressive!
The sponge doesn’t really smell like anything. And it
doesn’t absorb smells too much, so it goes back to smelling neutral after being
washed.

Essence promise that this sponge will result in a “...
smooth and glowy complexion.” Just the fact that it cleanses the skin so well
means that your skin will gradually become more smooth and will develop natural
radiance. From the first pass over my face, my skin is already clean and almost
all of the cleanser I'd used is gone. So the other couple of passes are more to make
sure that my skin is 100% clean. And it certainly is! My skin is supple and a
bit more radiant after cleansing it with this konjac. And it doesn’t look tired
or damaged, as the exfoliation is super gentle. And because this sponge makes
the skin so smooth, it absorbs serums and creams much better than if I had
washed my face with my hands! It’s also large enough for my face, though I do
have quite a small face, so it might be a bit small for taller or larger
people.
Here’s the basics on how to use konjac sponges if you never
have before. Konjac sponges must not be used dry; they are far too rough and
hard on the skin without first soaking them in water. The first use will
require you to soak it for up to 10 minutes before it is soft enough to use,
which is pretty much how long it will take with any other konjac sponge, too.
Afterwards, you can soak it for just a minute and it will be beautifully soft.
After you have soaked it until it has expanded and become soft, you can clean
your face with it. You can either use the sponge solo, or you can deepen the
cleaning by using a cleanser. I use gel cleansers that I then rinse out with
this sponge. Gently go across your face with the sponge, massaging your skin. After
you are done, squeeze out (never wring out!) all the water you can out of the sponge and leave it in a hygienic spot to air dry. And that’s it! As simple as
it gets, really! This konjac sponge is super easy to wash, and to get all the
cleanser out of it so that it is perfectly clean for the next day! It’s just a
joy to use!
Konjac sponges like this one can be used for roughly 2-3
months if used daily. Really, don’t use it for much more than that as that’s just
begging for a skin infection. Sponges are porous by nature, so it’s impossible
to really disinfect them, which leads to bacteria slowly accumulating inside
the sponge. And of course, the more bacteria present, the higher the chance you
get acne (or even worse) infections.
With that said, this sponge doesn’t get
misshapen over the course of two months of daily usage. It’s still just as firm
and just as soft when wet even two months after first using it.
In conclusion, this is a superb konjac sponge! Out of all
the konjac sponges that I’ve used, I like this one the most! Not only is it
cute as (s)hell with its scallop design (fully 3D with each rib being ridged!),
but it is also extremely soft! It exfoliates the skin so gently yet so effectively,
leaving my skin feeling clean and purified. I do think that it also looks
slightly more radiant! The sponge is big enough to easily clean my entire face
in just a few swipes and the ridged surface on one side makes for a great,
gentle massage! It doesn’t absorb a lot of cleanser, so it is super easy to
wash it thoroughly until all the cleanser has been rinsed out. Of course, like
all sponges it takes a looong time to dry, but that’s normal. And it has a
short shelf life of only 2-3 months if used daily. Again, all konjac sponges
are like this. So, I don’t really have anything negative to point out, it is
just phenomenal! It’s just such a shame that it was part of an LE, wish it was
in the regular selection, too! Absolutely recommend it!
