Catrice The Great Christmas Advent Calendar Eyeshadow Shader Brush Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - December 07, 2024
So! The first of not one, not two, but three brushes inside
the Advent calendar! That’s almost enough to make a basic eyeshadow look! The
first one is the shader brush, that is supposed to be used to apply eyeshadows
onto the eyelids. These brushes are incredibly useful, as you can imagine, so I
am thrilled to get one more! And Catrice eyeshadow brushes (including shader
brushes) have, historically, been very good quality, so I am really looking
forward to seeing what this little brush is like! Let’s finally check it out,
then!
Packaging: okay, this little cardboard sleeve the brush came
in is just gorgeous! I did not expect it to be black with red and gold details!
This is a stunning colour combination, and perfectly fitting with the rest of
the calendar! Of course, there’s art deco details in the front, which make this
little sleeve look much more expensive than it is. Information about the brush
is in the back, in a very nice peach colour that matches the art deco details.
Oh,
I should mention that the brush doesn’t come with any sort of protection
inside, not even a brush guard on the hairs. I am not too happy with this as
there is no guarantee that the brush will come undamaged.
The brush itself is simply stunning! I cannot say that I am
surprised by the solid gold body, as the theme is luxury and wealth, but damn
is it beautiful! The brush is just a tad shorter than usual, but I find this
size to be a bit easier to work with as you can get closer to the mirror.
Anyways, the entire body is just solid gold; it’s also reflective, which means
that it’s, just like the lipsticks (C01 / C02) from the Advent calendar, a fingerprint
magnet. Only, it’s less visible here as it’s smaller. The only detail is on the
handle, and it’s the Catrice logo, which is barely visible from all the
blinding gold! The brush is extraordinarily lightweight – it feels light like a
feather! But the build quality seems to be high as nothing feels loose or like
it’s cheaply made. The brush head is slightly larger than average for these
types of brushes, and it looks pretty basic. It’s just wheat-yellow hairs that
turn brown in the middle and then end in white tips, which is a very common
colour for brush hairs. Although, it is a very natural-looking one, so I like
it! Though I do think that dark rich brown hairs would create a stunning
contrast with the body... now, the last thing I wanted to mention here is the
shape. This is a classic shader brush shape, which means that it’s dense but
soft at the same time, and it has a slightly domed shape that is perfect for
applying eyeshadows onto the lids.
The hairs are synthetic, but golly, they are the softest
hairs you could imagine! It feels almost like mink hair, so, incredibly soft
and gentle on the delicate eyelids! When using a swiping and swirling motion,
it feels soooo soft that it’s majestic! It only becomes a tad prickly when I
tap with it, but it’s much less prickly than many other shader brushes; this
means that it’s super comfortable to use, even if you have very sensitive,
irritable eyes! And the quality of the hairs is excellent, as well! They are
cut perfectly evenly all across, not a single stray or frayed hair to be found!
They are pretty shiny, but they don’t look cheap at all. Also, there is no
fall-out! What amazing hairs, wow!
Okay, okay! This brush isn’t playing around! It is excellent! I use it to, of course, apply eyeshadows to the eyelid, and, boy, it’s amazing for this! It applies eyeshadows evenly and very richly, so it takes no time at all to shade the entire eyelid. And, since it is small, it is quite precise, so you can also use it to add colour and dimension to the outer corner and even the crease! It’s not the best brush for the crease, but it’s still quite good, as you can define it quite easily, and the result won’t be bad at all. It won’t be as sharp as with a real crease brush, but for softer eyeshadow looks it’s more than enough. However, the area it truly excels in is applying eyeshadows to the lower lid! It is ridiculously easy to apply eyeshadows onto the lower eyelid and not make a smudgy mess! It’s dense enough for that, and small enough, too. So, as you can see, this little brush is super versatile! The only thing it cannot do is blend, as it is simply not fluffy enough for that, but that’s okay. It cannot be perfect at everything. That’s what the blending brush in the calendar is for! I really did not think this little brush would be this good... I know Catrice brushes tend to be very good, but this little brush is exceptionally good – wow!
Washing this brush is simple and easy! No fuss at all! It doesn’t absorb a lot of shampoo (none, actually, if you use foam shampoo like I do), so it won’t take long to rinse it out. And it keeps its shape after a wash and there’s no fall-out or fraying! Yay, I love this lil brush so much!
In conclusion, another incredibly good product, after the eye patches. See, not all is mediocre here! There are some diamonds to be found among the quartz! Such as this little shader brush! Its main use is to, of course, apply eyeshadows, and it does that spectacularly well! It picks up a ton of pigment and applies it perfectly evenly, even if the colours are very vibrant! And since it is small, it can fit into the crease to give it dimension, although it’s not as good at this as a dedicated crease brush. It also has no issues with shading the outer third of the eye, so it’s possible to use this brush to both shade the entire eyelid, grab a darker shade and then shade the crease and outer V, and then grab an even darker shade and darken the outer corner and lower lid – all with just one brush! And the results won’t be bad – trust me! You just need a steady hand and all will be well! Wow, I am so impressed with this brush! I love it so much! I already know I am going to use this brush very often!
