The only detailed review for today, this is the Catrice
Disney Villains Powder Brush Ursula!
If you know Catrice & Essence, you’ll know that,
approximately once a year (sometimes 2 times), they have a sister collaboration
limited edition focusing on Disney characters. This brush was part of such a
collection! This time, Catrice's part of the LE focused on villainesses,
featuring the Evil Queen, Maleficent, and Ursula. All three are fab baddies in
their own rights, but the Ursula brush was the one that was the most useful to
me as I always need good powder brushes. I also happens to have a 30% off
sticker so it was cheaper than I thought! I love Disney, but how good is this
brush? Let’s see!
Packaging: the brush comes in a cardboard packaging. But the
design is so nice! It has a drawing of Ursula looking like she’s scheming
again. The silver colour of the packaging is quite nice. On one side is a
picture of the brush inside, almost to scale. It’s a very inspired packaging,
for sure!
The brush itself continues that silver theme. The body of
the brush (handle + ferrule) is silver and reflective. While this does look
great, it also leads to a lot of fingerprint smudges. The brush feels slightly
heavy, but that’s good. It feels like it’s built well, as there are no loose
parts. Remember that Ursula drawing that was on the outer packaging? There’s
one on the brush, as well, but this one is just lineart. Still, it’s a great
touch! The brush head has hairs that are black with white tips, nothing too
special. As for the shape, it is a classic powder brush shape, and by that I
mean that is slightly flared and very fluffy.
The hairs are synthetic. They are pretty shiny, though. They
don’t look very high quality, tbh. They are cut pretty evenly, there really
aren’t many hairs that are too long or frayed. The hairs are very soft, though!
Not as soft as some other powder brushes, but it is still quite soft
nonetheless. It feels a bit prickly when I tap with it, but it’s not too bad.
However, I was not wrong when I said that the hairs are not too high quality –
there was quite a bit of fall-out, even prior to ever washing the brush!

Well, this brush applies powders quite nicely! Although it
doesn’t apply them as well as it could. It picks up a decent amount of powder,
but this is not enough for me. I would like it more if it picked up more
powder, this way, I have to keep going
back to the pan to ensure that I have enough compact powder/setting
powder on my face. But, what it lacks in the amount of powder it picks up, it
compensates for with how evenly it applies it. It is extremely easy to apply an
even layer of powder across the entire face, even on the smaller areas such as
the nose or cupid’s bow! The brush also blends very well, although it can
overblend rather easily if you keep blending. That’s why I prefer to blend
lightly with it. It’s good enough for fixing mistakes that might occur during
contouring or while applying bronzer or blush. Still, I wish it picked up more
powder...

In conclusion, definitely not the worst powder brush, but
I’ve had better for sure. The hairs are quite soft, which is great, and it
doesn’t really feel too prickly, no matter how I use it. The hairs seem like
they’re quality enough. In terms of how it applies powders, it is pretty good,
although it doesn’t pick up as much powder as I prefer. However, it does apply
it evenly every time and it blends really well! If only takes maybe a minute or
two to get setting powder to look great, properly blended out and thick (given
enough layers, since it cannot pick up enough in one go). But it’s large and
fluffy and it gives me good enough results. So, yeah, I am happy with it! I
also really like the monochromatic design, with a silver handle and ferrule and
black/white hairs. It’s very pretty! And the Ursula drawing on the handle is a
nice touch! So yeah, I would be inclined to recommend this brush, it’s pretty decent
(even with the fall-out)! It just sucks that it was part of an LE and is,
therefore, impossible to find now...
