Cien Valentine’s Day Nail Polish [04 - Pastel Pink] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - December 07, 2022
Hello,
and welcome to the only review for this week! This is Cien's
Valentine’s Day Nail Polish, in the shade 04/Pastel Pink.
I was at Lidl around Valentine’s day and I noticed that they
had a huge display case of nail polishes in various shades. They had a few
different red shades, some neutral browns, a few vibrant pinks or purples... and
then I spotted this milky pink shade and I thought that it might look nice on
my pale skin. Now, the brand is Cien, Lidl's in-house brand of toiletry
products and cosmetics, but it was actually manufactured by Wibo, so will it be
like the other Wibo nail polishes that I tried?
To start, the packaging. It’s a simple packaging; just a
round clear glass bottle with a round white cap. Simple, but effective. I like
it.
Ingredients: the harmful trio (DBP, toluene, formaldehyde)
is not present here, but there are also no nourishing ingredients either. The
scent is just like any other nail polish. The expiration date is 12 months
after opening.
Colour: this is a very, very light pastel pink. It looks milky to me, like strawberry milk. It’s a very pretty colour, I think! It’s
super girly!
The brush is quite good I must say, I am satisfied with it.
It’s a flat brush that picks up a lot of polish, even too much, so I had to tap
off the excess, and there was a lot of excess polish! In any case, it applies
polish pretty good, the brush spreads the polish evenly across the nail and is
big enough for my small nails.
The formula is good, really thick and creamy even. I had
some trouble getting it to look even; even though the brush spreads it evenly,
the formula is too thick and just ends up looking very patchy and uneven with
one coat. With just one coat it was about 85% opaque, but it was so atrociously
uneven and ugly looking that I had to apply another coat. And with that this
polish is completely opaque, although it feels kind of thick on my nails, which
I don’t really like. The texture is glossy.
Staying power is actually excellent; I must admit I was
expecting it to be rubbish in terms of how long it will go before it starts to
chip, but look at that, I was totally wrong! There was just a teeny tiny bit a
chipping on the free edges of nails on day 3 of wearing it, but it was so small
that you could barely see it. It only started to flake off while I was using
harsh disinfectants to clean my turtle’s terrarium, but it still remained
surprisingly good-looking, considering the harsh chemicals! The day later I
washed my hair and only then did it start to look haggard. I am blown away by
how well it is holding up!
Removal is super easy, I didn’t have to rub a lot to get it
off. Even though the formula is really thick, it is surprisingly easy to remove,
which really surprised me. And there was no staining; figures, since it’s a
very light shade.
Conclusion: I really didn’t expect this nail polish to be
this good! Not that everything Cien is rubbish, but once I saw that it was
actually made by Wibo I started having reservations about this polish because
the previous Wibo polishes that I tried were... not that good, quality-wise. But this one is phenomenal, especially for its
incredibly low price! I liked how cute the colour is, how good the brush is, and
how amazingly durable it is. Two coats are enough for total coverage and it
doesn’t feel too heavy on the nails. I will say that the formula is really
thick and gelly, which some might not like, but I don’t really mind it too
much. Now, even though this is the Valentine’s day version of this polish, they
tend to come back for various other holidays, like Mothers' day, so it should
come back often enough if you miss it at your local Lidl. I would recommend it,
yeah.
Rating: 8.5/10
Would buy again? Maybe NO (I don’t really know, even though
it’s very good and I like the shade)
