Catrice Hop, Hop, Hooray! Mini Nail Lacquer [C05 - Soft Breeze] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - November 30, 2022

Hello!

Here’s the second review for this week, the Catrice Hop, Hop, Hooray! Mini Nail Lacquer, in the shade C05/Soft Breeze.

This shade was bought alongside the C04/Lavender Bouquet that I reviewed. It was on a small display in Müller some time before Easter. As soon as I saw the display I knew I had to but at least one shade, and I ended up buying two! I am not usually the biggest fan of blue nail polishes but this one looked so pretty! Let’s see how good it is!

The packaging is really fricking adorable! It’s a tiny clear rectangular glass bottle with two caps, one decorative, and one functional. On the decorative cap are cute little bunny ears! The decorative cap is white and has a bunny face print on it, which, along with the bunny ears makes it so cute! The real cap is white and ribbed and can be closed extremely tightly, so that you don’t have to worry about the polish spilling. I really love this packaging, but the only bad thing about it is that the ears are made of paper, which means that they can get bent easily and get a lot of creases.

Ingredients: açaí (Euterpe oleracea) fruit oil is here to nourish your nails and the harmful trio is, thankfully, absent. The scent is pretty much like any other nail polish, although it does seem a bit more, hmm, vinegar-ish, acidic? The expiration date is 36 months after opening.

The colour is really lovely for spring, a cornflower blue. This colour looks very nice on pale skin, and looks even more intense than in the bottle.

The brush is phenomenal, but that’s no surprise when it comes to Catrice nail polishes. It’s a small flat brush that is big enough to coat my entire nail in one or two swipes and applies the polish exceptionally evenly. See, this is one thing that Catrice always gets right, which makes using their nail polishes a joy.

The formula is thick and goopy, and seems quite gelly. Nevertheless, it’s very easy to use because it is still thin enough to be spread easily. It’s definitely thicker than a lot of non-gel nail polishes. One coat was enough to give me roughly 90% opacity, and it looked nice and even with just that one coat. You could wear it like that, or you could add another coat to get 100% opacity. Definitely don’t apply more than two coats though, it will be too thick for sure. The texture is glossy.

Longevity is pretty good, I must admit. It started to chip at the end of day 3 of wearing it, and the chipping became noticeably worse on days 4 and 5. Before I removed it, it had a couple of large chipped off parts that were only made worse by washing my hair. I am not too disappointed, really, most nail polishes don’t last too long on my nails, especially without a base coat, so this is actually slightly above average.

Removal was very easy. I didn’t have to rub too much to remove it. It also didn’t leave any stains.

In conclusion, I love this little nail polish! The packaging is absolutely adorable, with the little bun-bun with ears. The brush is amazing, as expected for a Catrice nail polish and I definitely didn’t expect the colour to look this nice on pale skin! I still like the lavender shade a little bit more, but this cornflower blue is almost as pretty. Now, the formula of this polish is quite thick and gelly, but don’t let that worry you; application is really quite easy despite the thickness of the polish. I am also satisfied with how long it lasted on my nails before chipping, lasting a whole 3 days before any chipping started being visible, which is longer than it usually takes for nail polishes to start flaking and chipping for me. I don’t have anything negative to say, so, obviously, I am going to recommend it!
