Trend it Up N1 Nail Polish [174] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - December 14, 2022

Hello,

The next review today is going to be Trend it Up's N°1 Nail Polish, shade 174.

I wasn't actually planning at first to buy this nail polish, but when a similar shade of a Catrice ICONails wasn’t available at BIPA, I just had to buy it. I just wanted a nice mustardy yellow nail polish; I bought this shade because it was the closest I could find, even though it’s a lot more yellow. And at its price point of 9.90kn (1.31€) I didn’t really care how good or bad it was.

Packaging: a tiny transparent square glass bottle with a black cap that fits very well and takes a bit of force to open when properly closed.

Ingredients: vitamin E for at least some nourishment, and there are no parabens or other harmful ingredients like formaldehyde or toluene. There's also diatomaceous earth and Lithothamnion calcareum extract, interestingly! And there's also zinc sulfate to help make nail a bit harder. The scent is like any other nail polish. The expiration date is 24 months after opening.

The colour is a bright sunny yellow. It’s a beautiful shade for spring or summer!

The brush is not very good, I am afraid. It’s a standard round brush, nothing out of the ordinary, but it looked a bit frayed when I first opened the bottle. Now, are they all like that or did I just happen to get a defective brush? In any case, I had trouble applying the polish evenly with this brush; even though it picks up a huge amount of pigment, the fraying makes it really difficult to apply nail polish without it getting on the skin and no matter how precisely I tried to paint my nails, I still ended up with a huge amount of polish all around my nails.

The formula is relatively thick, but still watery. What I mean is that it is not a gel-polish nor a watery type of polish, it’s roughly somewhere in between the two. I didn’t mind that it was slightly watery because it was still thick enough to stay in place. But due to the slight wateriness it did look very uneven. The first coat was so uneven that some parts of my nails were almost completely transparent while others had a thick yellow layer, that looked quite messy. Fortunately, the second coat fixes almost all of that; while there is still the tiniest bit of unevenness, it’s barely visible. This polish is fully opaque with 2 coats. The texture is glossy, without any shimmer. I really like that there isn’t any shimmer in this polish, I think it makes this yellow shade look better than if it had fine shimmer. Hey, sometimes you need a polish that is just plain glossy!

Staying power: pretty good, it is still in excellent condition even after I had disinfected my hand multiple times in a short amount of time and did chores that involved detergents and Domestos. There was just the tiniest amount of chipping at the edges of my nails.

Removal: as easy as can be, really. I removed it very quickly and without much rubbing. I got nothing more to add, honestly.

In summary: this is a pretty good nail polish, I think. I really like this shade, it looks so cheerful and vibrant! And it looks even more vibrant on my pale skin. I don’t usually wear such vibrant nail polishes but I really love this colour, especially in spring! Honestly, it reminds me of daffodils! Now, this nail polish does have quite a few bad sides, the biggest being the brush. It was frayed from the start and it made applying this polish a real hassle. Beside that, a minimum of two coats are really necessary to make the polish look opaque and even. But really, given how cheap the price is, it’s a surprise that it is even this good! I really didn’t expect it to last this well after multiple hand washes, disinfecting, cleaning... etc. I’ll recommend it, just for the sake of trying something new, not because it’s such an amazing polish.
