Alverde Geschenkset Wohlfühl Winter Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - July 27, 2023

Hello!

Oh, look at this set! This is the Alverde Geschenkset Wohlfühl Winter (Gift Set Feelgood Winter, in English).

I saw this gift set in DM, and I just had to buy it, it looked so rustic and beautiful! The main reason why I bought it was because of the adorable birdies on the packaging, I love birds, especially small passerine birds such as tits. These kinds of sets are perfect for when you need a present, it’s got a hand cream, a body lotion, and a shower gel inside, so you get whole-body care. This set is perfect for winter, with its wintery scent and illustrations of tits on yew branches. So, let’s see the items in this set, and how good they are, individually!

The packaging of the set was eco-friendly, made of recycled paper. While this does make it look cheaper than if it were packaged in some sleek plastic, I actually prefer it this way. It looks so rustic and pretty! Besides, the paper was strong enough, as it survived until Christmas with barely any dents in it. I love the cutout in the middle, but it might be better if it ha a plastic window inside it. This isn't tamper-proof at all. The best part of the set is the illustrations on it: look at the little tits! And a Christmas wreath! Simply perfect!

You'll find all the information about this set in the back. Although, Alverde Naturkosmetik being a DM brand, and DM being a German store, it's all in German. But it's all there: ingredients list, promises about what each item will do..., all written in this nice dark green font. Dark green like the wintery pines.

Let’s see the first item, the Wohlfühl Winter Handcreme (Hand Cream). First things first, hydrated hands! Then later we can care for the rest of the body.

This cream comes in a relatively large tube, at least for a hand cream. The design is simple and rustic, having an off-white base with dark green accents such as the text and the stunning great tit illustration. Just look at the birdie! I really love this style! The cap is dark green and closes securely. This tube is made of soft, floppy plastic, indicating that it has been at least partially recycled; indeed, this tube contains 70% recycled material!

Ingredients: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, vitamin E for nourishment. No parabens. There’s also soy (Glycine soja) oil for added hydration. The scent is a bit of a let-down, tbh. It doesn’t really smell like anything, having only a faintly creamy, sweet scent. Sadly, it does not smell like roasted almonds like its sister products in the set. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening.

This is a white cream. It is perhaps the most watery of all three products in the set. The formula is watery and very thin, but also kinda greasy at the same time. It’s a very lightweight formula, way too lightweight to be used overnight, when I use hand creams. It takes a while to absorb into the skin, unlike the body lotion which absorbs in seconds. This formula definitely doesn’t feel as silky as the body lotion’s. I don’t know, it’s just weird and feels kinda heavy after it absorbs and a bit tacky. Compared to the silky formula of the body lotion, this is just not good.

This hand cream is supposed to intensely hydrate winter-stressed hands. However, it does no such thing; while it does feel slightly hydrating, that’s about it. Due to the very thin, watery formula it cannot deeply hydrate the skin, especially if you suffer from dry skin. It’s completely gone by morning if you apply it before going to bed, which means that sometimes I wake up and my hands feel dry. Proof that it cannot intensely hydrate for hours. It’s good as a first-aid type of cream, but for any real improvements you will have to find a more nourishing hand cream.

All in all, the worse of the two creams in this set. It’s not even close to the body lotion; this cream has a very watery yet greasy and somewhat tacky formula that takes a good while to absorb. It doesn’t leave a white cast if you apply too much unlike the body lotion, though. It’s simply not hydrating enough for my hands, despite claiming to intensely hydrate winter-stressed hands. It only offers mild hydration, at best. And it doesn’t even smell like almonds, sadly! Still, it’s good in a pinch, just not if you need emergency care for your hands.

The second of the three items is the Wohlfühl Winter Körperlotion (Body Lotion). Let’s take care of the body after pampering our hands with the hand cream, shall we?

This body lotion comes in a huge tube, the same size as the shower gel. It’s 200 mL, though it looks bigger. The design is the same as with the other two items: off-white base, dark green text and an illustration of a tit, this time on a yew branch. I love the bird motif, it’s so pretty! The cap is dark green and closes very tightly so don’t worry about the lotion spilling. This tube is also made of soft, floppy plastic, with 70% of it being recycled!

Ingredients: glycerine, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, vitamin E for nourishment. Also, soy (Glycine soja) oil, from certified organic agriculture. No parabens. Not a lot here to nourish the skin, but perhaps it’s not even necessary to have a ton of different ingredients. The scent is so wonderful and delicious! It’s relatively intense, and smells exactly like marzipan, with a strong background of roasted almonds. That makes sense, marzipan is made from almonds, after all. This is definitely the best scent in this set, the shower gel comes at a close second, but this one is just divine! It reminds me of Dominosteine or Mozartkugeln. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening.

This body lotion is white. The formula is very thin and kind of watery but it feels so silky and smooth and nice to rub into the skin. I would like it more if it was a bit thicker or creamier, but this is such a lightweight formula that absorbs within seconds, which is really great! It’s not at all greasy. Although, despite being so thin, it still leaves a white cast on the skin if you apply even a bit too much, and it’s easy to use too much. Nevertheless, since it absorbs so fast the white cast isn’t really a problem.

This lotion feels so nice on the skin, not at all tacky or heavy. Once it absorbs it leaves the skin feeling velvety soft. Though, besides that, there isn’t much else to talk about. It is far too light to be used overnight, as I cannot feel even a trace if the lotion in the morning. My skin doesn’t really feel all that more hydrated, just a tiny bit. But hey, even this is better than nothing, especially during the dry, winter season! Of course, it would be better if it could hydrate the skin more, but I honestly don’t mind it the way it is.

All in all, a quite nice body lotion. I love how silky the formula is and how it leaves my skin feeling nicely velvety and soft. Oh and the smell! It smells like marzipan, with a touch of roasted almonds; such a delicious scent, especially for winter! The design of the tube, with the birdie, is so cute! I, however, don’t like how thin and almost watery the formula is, and how it leaves a white cast on the skin. But, since it absorbs lightning fast, it doesn’t matter. I would like it to be more hydrating, though, as it doesn’t really hydrate my skin all that much, especially overnight. Still, I quite like it and it’s adequate for post-shave hydration, maybe it’s not ideally hydrating, but it is alright.

And now the last of the three items in this gift set: the Wohlfühl Winter Pflegedusche (Shower Gel, basically). So far, we have had something for the hands, then a nice body lotion; after a hard day why not take a nice shower with this shower gel?

This shower gel comes in a huge tube! It’s 200 mL, which is pretty decent if you ask me! The tube features a very similar design to the other two items: it’s off-white with a monochrome dark green illustration of a tit bird (looks most similar to a great tit). It’s a very understated but very elegant design. The cap is dark green and closes tightly so that you don’t have any unsightly accidents with the shower gel. I love how soft and floppy the plastic is, definite sign that it is made of recycled materials (70%, to be exact)!

Ingredients: glycerine, betaine for at least some nourishment. No parabens, but there are sulfates, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, instead of SLS. Besides that, this is quite a slim list of ingredients, which is good! Less chance to develop an adverse reaction if there are fewer ingredients. The scent is different from both the hand cream and the body lotion, this gel smells like roasted almonds. Delicious scent. And also quite intense, at least while you are showering. It fades rather fast after you are done showering and dry your skin. This scent is quite similar to the body lotion, but this one smells more like roasted almonds than like marzipan. The expiration date is only 6 months after opening, due to the natural ingredients used and the lack of preservatives.

This shower gel has that typical Alverde shower gel formula that is so annoying to use. It’s ridiculously gelatinous, no not just gel-like, it’s literally slippery like gelatine. It tends to slide down the skin and into the drain unless you manage to catch it in time, which just feels needlessly frustrating. Besides being so slippery, it is also extremely greasy and quite heavy. It just feels like literal grease and it’s sooo soapy. However, it does not create a lot of foam at all, there is actually barely any foam. It’s really not fun to use, when it’s so greasy and heavy.

Thankfully, it is super easy to wash off. After washing it off there are no greasy residues or anything else really. My skin feels clean after using this gel; however, it also feels a bit dried out, I want to say. It’s just very dry when I touch it, not at all soft. Weird how something so greasy can leave the skin feeling dry. A shame, really.

All in all, this is an alright shower gel. Nothing special, really. I love the way it smells, like roasted almonds. Such a delicious scent! And I love the design on the tube with the little birdie. No matter how nice that all is, this shower gel leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to its performance. It’s horribly gelatinous, which has become standard practice for Alverde shower products, leading to it sliding off the skin and into the drain, which is just wasteful. It’s also incredibly greasy and heavy and thick, which doesn’t feel nice on the skin. Despite claiming that this gel cleans the skin without drying it out it seems to be the opposite for me; my skin seemed to be a bit dried out after washing off the gel. I mean, this shower gel is nothing to write home about, but it’s also not horrible. The smell kinda saves it.

So, all in all, this is an alright gift set. All three items are good enough, although none are amazing. Despite claiming that this set would deeply hydrate winter-stressed skin, it does not do that. The hand cream isn’t hydrating enough, the body lotion isn’t hydrating enough, and the shower gel is most definitely not hydrating enough. In fact, the shower gel causes my skin to be slightly dried out. Both the cream and lotion are way too watery. The shower gel is horribly gelatinous and usually slides down the body into the drain, which is really annoying. The best thing about this set is definitely the scent: the lotion and the shower gel smell like roasted almonds; the lotion smells even better than roasted almonds, as it smells a lot like marzipan. The hand cream is the odd one out, with no real scent. And the rustic design is just beautiful! But besides that, it’s just not terribly good, sadly. It’s average, more or less. It’s not available anymore, as it was a Christmas 2022 limited edition item, but even if it were I do not think I would give this set a recommendation.

Would buy again? Probably NO (even if it wasn’t an LE product)
